What do you think?
-
Yeah... that's a tough one to get around. Luckily I got mine from a buddy for $50.00. I also installed the old seats into the BRAT so I killed two birds w/one stone. Good luck w/the swap. If you can swing it. it's worth it b/c the seats are a lot better than the stockers.

The tragic and untimley death of Vicki
s'ko replied to CzarMohab's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It's interesting how we are all expressing sympathy for something the rest of America considers disposable. "An 80's bucket. Ohh just get rid of it and get a new 90's bucket." Also interesting how I was getting a bit emotional reading about Vicki and how she sacrificed herself to save you. I hope to never put Bob the FRANKENBRAT in that position one day, but I know that if it came to it. He'd give himself up. I think that older cars eventually develop something that we could call souls. Something that car nuts can bond with. CzarMohab, thanks for the obituary on Vicki. BW -
Ball joint drama - Fried ECU??
s'ko replied to Virrdog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
nahh..... you would look like a retard on USMB if posted about how you went to the dealer to fix this problem. Fixing your own ball joint puts you in the upper caste of subaru owners. Owning an old gen. You're royalty baby. BW -

I FINALLY got my car's air conditioning fixed!

hmmm... the ac just went out on my wife's SVX..... can someone photochop it for me... especially with the ghetto fab light.... BW -
When put 2002 WRX seats into my OBS it was a direct swap. There is a guy here called Jamal that put a set into his legacy. It's the older square body styled one. We both experienced less head room b/c the seat mounts are taller. Regarding the wife... I installed them and I asked her... hey.. do you notice a difference. She looked at me and said 'no...but the colors don't match" BW

I know this will burst your "all original" bubble, but I think that quad lights can retrofit over to the 80 front end. BW

Thanks for the clarification about the ball joint. Sounds like you are on the right track. Good luck. BW -

I would be a more concerned about the welding done to the bolt. If your welder friend is not really good or prepped the piece right your could have it break and then you are re: welding w/battery connected. I did the same thing the other day and on my EJ BRAT started right up after that. I would say I do welding on the car 50% of the time w/the battery connected. When you say run the diagnostic do you mean that at that point the check engine light comes on? I would say check your battery, although the engine light not coming on is kinda weird. BW -
"Rare" find in Los Angeles...
s'ko replied to misledxcracker's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
wow. And there's a 50% off sale coming in August 11th. Have to let Scott F know. Maybe he would like to get some spare EA81T parts. BW -
This is the type of offroading I eventually want to set my BRAT up for. I don't intend on racing it in a BAJA 1000 or something like that, but I would like to do some dune blasting and desert wash driving. Scott F and I were kicking around the idea of redoing the rear suspension/drive system so that you take the rear diff and move it forward to where the EA82 carrier bearing sits. Then have the axles go to a sprocket at the pivot point of new trailing arms. Sprocket turns a big chain down the length of the trailing arms and powers the rear wheel at the end of each of the arms. So you could get massive movement in the rear w/o having to worry about your axles over-extending b/c they will practically not move at all. The front is a whole different story. You would need to make new arms and then get custom longer axles. One thing I noticed is that the lift blocks in my engine crossmember would be the perfect place to mount top a arms. lots to think about and play with. BW

check your ball joints and tie rods I had a situation where my tie rod was a bit loose and when I accelerated it would hop to the right and I let off the throttle it would hop to the left. BW

BRAT accepted into a all subaru car show
s'ko replied to s'ko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
looked into that today on the way home from work. They have a gallon of gloss white for 35.00 A quart of royal blue for 7.00 A gallon of paint thinner is 12.00 Foam rollers and paint tray $10.00 or so large bucket to mix the paint $5.00 Total = $69.00 or so. I have to finish the dash/combo meter assembly back together. Install the door panels, finish making the tranny console. I will take finished pictures. BTW I have an appointment w/the Smog Referee on 8/8/07 here's hoping that nothing happens by them. BW -

s'ko replied to TheLoyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have heard it called the boxer growl. It's funny b/c whenever I have wrenching days at my place, you always know when there is a Soob driving up and down my street looking for the place b/c of the growl. I usually go to a Friday night meet w/some WRX's I wonder how it would sound to have 10 boxer motors all revving at the same time. BW -
BRAT accepted into a all subaru car show
s'ko replied to s'ko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
now there is butt load of things to do to get it ready. I have to finish the interior and give it a quick and dirty rattle can job so that all of the panels look the same color. -
91Loyale. I don't necesarily thing that the EJ is the root of the problem. I would look into how secure things are. Tranny crossmember, tranny mounts, ball joints, tie rods, radius rods, strut top hats. I realize that you mentioned the some of that stuff is new, but new parts that aren't tightened right feel and act like old worn out parts. Also give us some feedback as to what has been checked. This will help us narrow down what's going on. BW

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1313442 Here is the link to a 2008 WRX premier event in Los Angeles Santa Anita. I just got notice that my BRAT project was accepted into the 150 car subaru only car show. Any people in the area come on down. BW

check your tranny mounts. I had similar problems like I said and I put my sway bar in and the found out that they were a bit loose. Tightened em up and no wheel hop in high range I still have a bit in low range. BW

wheel hop after control arm modification (resolved see last post)
s'ko replied to s'ko's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
wheel hippity hoppy GONE. I looked underneath as I was putting the sway bar in and I noticed that the tranny mounts had come a bit loose. Tightened em up, put on the sway bars and woo hooo.. I still get a bit of wheel hop/burn out in low range 2wd but hey, I kinda expected it. No wheel hop in high range and no instability at high speed. :-\ :-\ Off to the smog nazi before something else goes wrong. BW
