  1. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Potenza+G+019+Grid these are the tires brent. Drove them around today and got decent traction. I think with a tire this size though you are still better off with a dedicated snow tire. Where is the coil pack and how do i check the grounds. And it does ahve a keyless entry system but he got no keyfobs when he bought the car.
  2. Ok so it stalled out on him again today. I drove out to meet him and after 10 minutes it started up and drove fine. While the car was running i removed the plug wires from the ignition coil and it seems like two of the ports arent putting out as much spark as the other 2. The spark plugs themselves seemed to be working ok but they were dirty. It doesnt explain how one minute it could be running fine then the next it just shutts off. No stumble, no stalling just bam nothing for 5 minutes. Buy the way, i drove the hell out of this thing trying to get it to immitate the problem. With the new tires on it its a friggin go kart man. Might need to look into one of these.
  3. Ill probally stick with the subaru, donthave much of a choice. I really do enjoy the car just needs so much work. I had a chance to drive my brothers legacy gt a few hours ago after it broke down. Now thats a fun car.
  4. Thanks my friend. Buy the way, this wasnt a bash subaru and go to the old american standbuy thread. I was just frustrated because so much to do and it keeps mounting up. And i happened to see a 88 caprice in my price range. Thats all, if i found anything decent shape i would consider it. And brent, i dont know what it is you do or say but you p*** people off very easly on here. Ive meet you many times and your a fun guy. Thanks for all the advice guys.
  5. See i wouldnt give up guido but again just in a rock and a hard place is all. He need s so much work. "This caprice i knwo nothing about and probally wont get it but im just saying. When you feel youve got no where to turn sometimes. I need a good loan.
  6. And your right hatchsub i would be getting someone elses 500 dollar problems. But i dont have money to fix the stuff thats wrong now, let alone find another engine. And that caprice wasnt in that bad of shape but me pumping up a chevy on a subaru sight really isnt cool so............... It was a total piece of garbage man. I was doin donughts around it, (actually i was). Just venting, it still gets me from a to b for right now. Wish i had the money and seemingly time to fix what it needed done. Oh well.
  7. And the 2nd thing is that i dont think i can get much out of this. So im pretty limited on what i can buy for around 500 bucks.
  8. Thats the other thing, i would ej it but then youve got the engine and the electricals to mess with. Its not the engine thats the biggest pain in the butt its the fact that it needs more work. If i had money i would just buy something else and keep this on the backburner fixing stuff as i go. But the problems keep mounting on this thing and as soon as i fix something 1 or 2 more problems get worse. I duno, i like gm products and i know caprices are rock solid for the most part. I cant afford to have my vehicle down and i can barely afford to fix it. These are the problems i face.
  9. Kinda overwhelmed with work here. Heater and cooling system need taken care of. Rear wheel bearing is being a pain in the butt. Header pipe is way loose of the head now and is louder then a raccoon getting attacked buy mountain lion. It backfires because of this. Tensioners are going bad, driverside front cv shaft is clicking like mad. Throttle sticks when its super cold out, doesnt idle high at all and cant fix the cold stalling. Its just being a pain in the butt right now. I passed a 88 caprice classic today. Just got me thinking about how much easier it might be to just get something different. 20 years old and 200k miles. This thing aint no spring chicken anymore.
  10. Just became a fan, looking forward to your videos.
  11. Oh 1 more thing. When the car ignition is on but the car isnt running i hear the motor clicking, then 1 electric fan turns on, then the other turns on a few seconds latter. Then they both shut off and it repeats this over and over and over again.
  12. Im going to look over the ignition carefully but i think im going to suggest he replace the plugs, wires, and ignition coil just to be safe. As far as the headgaskets go your nuts if you think im takeing this apart. My subaru ea82 is beyond what i want to touch. I look at this ej25 and i weep in fear.
  13. Well good news and bad news. Good news is the car got sent to the shop asap today for new tires all around, we have an upcoming snow storm. The bad news is that he told me the car shut off on him today on the highway on the way to the tireshop. Just driveing along and it shut off. He tried to turn it over for 5 minutes with it just turning over and over again. After that it started fine and ran normal. No check engine light. Thanks for the advice guys and keep it coming.
  14. Ok, so since my brother isnt mechanically inclined and i am. I get the job of putting this back in propper running condition. Few things ive noted. 1997 Subaru Legacy GT 139000 miles. From what i have seen it was well taken car of for its first 60k miles. I have every dealer:) service record. After that its a mystery until about 110000 miles. From there its had timeing belts, ball joints, and a couple other misc things. It is filthy, kinda scary filthy. I mean dirt is caked on this thing, i almost told him not to buy it because of that. It looks like its sat for a while. Motor, interior, exterior are just like its been neglected. And its beat up, small damage to the front bumper, rear bumper, mirror and all door guards. No rust problems though. Engine ran fine and tracked down the road good. Drove it for 45 minutes never overheaded though we could smell alittle coolant. I checked the ground for leaks, none. I checked the exhaust for smells, none. I checked the resevour, had small bits of junk in it. Only time will tell about the HG which seems to of not been replaced yet. I told my brother all of this before he bought it but weve determined that if there is a problem he has that type of money to just fix it. Has 4 tires the same size but different treads. The headlights and foglights are hazed over terribly, any recomenditions on how to fix this or what others have done in the past. Maybe headlight replacements because they seem terribly old and yellow so are proballu due. So heres what ive come to know. We had some slushy ice yesterday and this thing liked to get sideways. Is that due to the low profile type tires the GT version has. During certain accelerations it felt doggy. Kinda like it was chugging but at highway speeds it was fine. Im sure it might need plugs and wires but is there anything else i should check out or clean. Im baffeled this didnt come with a full size spare since dont they say you cant alter the size at all. Needs some brake work probally brother says they felt uneven. Ill be spending some time with this car to give it a good shakedown. I could some reccomendations from you. Good allseason tires Spark plugs and wires and anything else you need to do for a refreshing for this car. The heater control lights dont seem to work, is this a easy repair just a burnt out bulb. Im used to ea82s so this is something new for me. Heres a pic.
  15. Time for me to spend some time in the new gen area. Look for some new posts buy me.
  16. cummon details...........
  17. My brother ended up picking it up today. I have never seen a more filthy car. I was happy to find lots of service records it though. But no head gasket. It feels like it has kinda chugging so it probally needs some intake cleaning or maybe plugs and wires. I didnt see coolant dripping or i couldnt smell or see it come through the exhaust. But you can smell it alittle bit when you open the hood. My brother fully aware of this says that if it goes a year and then needs replaced its worth it. Man it was dirty, like ive never seen any vehicle this dirty before. Ran and drove down the road nice and tight. Alittle clunking in the rear though and man that abs is annoying. Had the same size tire on them but they all had different treads. 1st thing hes buying is 4 new tires, then wiper blades, plugs and wires, fog light and the headlamp cleanup kit. Anything else i should tell him. I think ill direct him to this websight so he can get his info first hand. Thanks for all those who answered. Ben
  18. 138k miles, 2500 bucks. What do i need to be on the look out for for a HG problem.
  19. Despite its age and miles, thats old technology. I wouldnt pay darn near 2000 bucks for something like that. Its nice and clean with low miles but i would pass. Offer them 1000 bucks and see what they say. If they have a problem tell them to get off of kellys blue book and see what those are really worth.
  20. http://desmoines.craigslist.org/cto/1510934464.html So my brother is going to look at this car and i was wondering what he should be looking out for. I believe these are the ones with the headgasket problems but need some clarification. Anything we need to be looking at or aware of. As far if this is a good price or not. Doesnt this have a turbo and intercooler. Any advice would be great. Ben
  21. Yea he pulled the cap and rotor off, said everything looked fine.
  22. Has cleaning the connections on the fuel pump quieted it down and not allowed the noise to come from the turn signals.
  23. Nope because FI is superior to the Stock Suby carb setup.
  24. Thats what im talking about. Im talking about stock form. We all know carbs are easier then FI but we all can agree that the stock suby carb sucks. We can all agree that single range is good, but dual range is superior. I was talking about the 85-94 series, wagon, sedan or 3dr.
