Just picked up a 98 forester for $600
subaru360 replied to Subieguy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat's a good buy. Most Forresters I've seen with bad engines go for $1000 or more. Should be an EJ25 dohc phase 1, but if it was a JDM import engine there are some weird ones out there like the EJ20 etc. EJ22 will also fit and cost less.

I checked out the pics. Really looks good. What do you use for a heater?

2.2 into a '96 2.5 OB (I KNOW- do a search!)
subaru360 replied to Bserk's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX96-98 EJ22 works fine. I have done several swaps using them. Single port Y pipes from the U pull it are $10-20.

Suspension conversion
I could do either in a few hours, but, that's just me. I like the outbacks a lot more than leg wagons.

Suspension conversion
The ouback does have the spacers in between the crossmembers and the body, but you can just put the springs/struts in the legacy. Why not just put the engine from the legacy in the outback?

Need Report from Harry's in Hazleton, ASAP
I was at pennsburg today. They only have EJ subaru's. No EA at all. No dual range. I did get a nice 95 EJ22 for $75 plus tax.

You can use http://www.photobucket.com to host your pics. Signup and upload your pics there and copy and paste the img link into your post on here. I'd like to see more of the car, it looks cool.

96 outback wagon $750
subaru360 replied to Subieguy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe price is good. Swap the transmission with one from a pick a part yard and have a nice car for less than $1000. If you take the bumper cover off, you can usually pop dents like than out from behind and it won't look too bad after a little cleaning and buffing out.

94 Legacy exhaust into a 96 Outback?
96 outback 2.2 is single port. 94 Legacy 2.2 is dual port. It won't work.

Looks good. Hopefully whatever you get fits inside the fenders so you can have the car sit lower.

Very nice work. I like it.

Pennsylvania Brat folks....interested in a little job?
I have never used either of them, but have looked at the websites. I think both would work fine.
-
Is $275 too much?
From a yard that will pull it for you, it's a little high but typical. If you have to pull it, it's way too high. I bet you can find one from a private seller a lot cheaper.

I live in Fleetwood. I could install a lift kit if you bought one. Send me a PM if you are interested in having me do the work. Joe's still has lots of 80's subaru's. Not so much from the 70's and a few from the 90's. I was there last month.

Can you redrill the hubs to a different pattern. I know some people have drilled them to 6 lug. What about other patterns?

Either of those would look fine on your FF-1.

installing a non-EGR manifold on an EGR vehicle
subaru360 replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGenerally for the OBD2 cars 5 speeds didn't have EGR and automatics did. But there were some oddball ones that had the california, new york, maine etc emissions that were 5 speed with EGR. If you're putting the non EGR engine in an automatic, I don't think you will find an ecm for that setup, I don't think that was ever made.

can you pull an EJ engine and trans at the same time?
subaru360 replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt comes out, but it's really tight on an E4AT, the 5 speed has more room. It's kind of hard to handle since the auto trans weighs a lot more than the engine.

installing a non-EGR manifold on an EGR vehicle
subaru360 replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt'll run. You will have a check engine light with an egr code. If you have access to the ecm out of the car you got the engine from, that might solve your check engine light if you install that ecm. As far as the canister lines go, I've done it the other way around. I put one that had the cansiter in place of one that didn't. I put the canister from the donor car in, so it really had 2 canisters, one in the back and one under the hood. Strangely no check engine light issues and everything worked normally.

It would look great if you could find a wheel/tire combo that lets you lower the car slightly, maybe an inch or so. The 185 55 14 kumho sounds like a good choice. I think a wheel that matches the time period of the car would be best, I'll look around and see what I can find.

need help from people that have used TIME-SERT head bolt inserts
subaru360 replied to mellow65's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have never used them on a subaru, but I used to work at a chevy dealer and I used them on GM's lsx motors. That's an aluminum block and head V8. They work great, much nicer than a helicoil. They were GM's fix for the threads pulling out of the block. I think they are expensive.

Should I get a 360??
If we are going to share pics, here is mine and this is the parts car I have

Should I get a 360??
Ed is a good guy and has helped me out a lot. I would never have got my 360 to the point it is at now without Ed and the 360 club. Selling 360 parts on Ebay will get you kicked out of the club for sure, just the way it is.

Should I get a 360??
I'm 6'2" and fit in mine just fine. It's a little tight getting in, but lots of headroom once your in. I drive mine almost every day, it's a great car. It won't fit in a baja, but will fit in a fullsize 8 foot bed pickup, it almost fits in my suburban. If you want to get one join the 360 club at http://www.subaru360club.org Most of the parts problems have been figured out already. Very few parts are still available from subaru. I did get axle seals from subaru and I know you can get an air filter still. Other than that it's mostly nuts and bolts that still have good part numbers. I have one that I'm going to sell. I got it for parts, and switched some that were better from my good one. It's 95% complete but needs bodywork and floor repairs. I am going to be sure it runs for the next owner. I want $500 for it, but won't sell it to somebody who will part it out. I know it's worth a lot more than that on ebay in parts, but don't want to see that happen to it.

OBDII into an EA81 documentation?
I'm working on a harness for this swap in my spare time. I junked a '96 OBW and saved the harness for a future swap. It's a huge PITA to get the dash out to get at the harness. I got all the unecesarry junk cut out of the harness already. I've been looking for an 80-84 GL 4wd wagon to do an OBD2 EJ swap on. Someday I'll find one
