5spd tranny swap BIG PROBLEMS!! revised!
CHIM replied to richieroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok, your diff is the same ratio as your tranny, The elctrical won't have an affect on how the tranny performs, Is it a d/r tranny or push button 4WD? ~CHIM~ -
Current draw of starter solenoid
CHIM replied to BobBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I could be wrong but i do belive the soleniond only draws 3 amps, If it's not 3 it's close, 2-4 ~CHIM~ -
I want one!

Now thats an idea, Using a little subie moter and some fiberglass and build a mini gl gocart, Making it look like it's big brother down to the T. Thats somthing i would like to see, Hell maybe that would be the perfect summer project for me? Anybody else feel like givin it a go? I think i speak for all of us when i say "Pictures"! ~CHIM~

CHIM replied to Beavis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you can also use silicone between your cap and disty to keep it dry. -
I just got my 84 turbo running, in to process of puting my new moter in i moved the downpipe away so i could put the motor in, Same thing broke off at the flange, took it to some dude charged me $15.00 to weld it, Mine was origanlly welded on the inside of the pipe. I also what to know if this is a common problem. Allso do subie turbo's crack often?, i have 2 with cracks by the little flapper valve thing, cracked in same spot on both, 1's EA81 other is EA82. ~CHIM~

It was a damn gorund wire the whole time, The day my problems started the alternator munched the main ground from the battery to the block. I didn't think about it at all. I feel so sheepish couse iv been a bahahad boy, I feel like an rump roast now. Thank you guys so much for your help, YOU GUYS ROCK! ~CHIM~

My motor is a multi port FI, I ruled out the possibiltie of injectors since i have 4, i don't really see all 4 having problrms all at once, Now for wireing, like i said before it was running PERFECT, shut it down...........fired it up and boom, instant problems. The more i drive it the worse it gets now, I have a task just getting it out of my driveway. What green connector?, i know of 1 under my dash and i do belive it's just a single wire, And where might i be plugging it into?

Ok, changed the MAF sensor...............................The subaru Demon still resides within my car Any other idea's?
-
They where all black, to rich is what i got out of it. I would check the carb if it had one, it's FI. I will be changing fuel filter tomarrow but i seriously doubt thats the problem, when i press the throttle to the floor it exelerates fine. IM LOST GUYS!, I love the car,Ineed the car............................................................ . To those that have or have worked on these motor's, Is this motor somthing i am going to need to work on constantly or is it supposed to be as reliable as a EA81 N/A?

Acculy, this thing when it was running good had ALOT of torqe and very good response, I expected a turbo to have more power than carbed but this thing had alot more than i expected, VERY FAST! when it was running good. Ok guys, i replaced the ECU with a different one with no changes, still running like ************! I picked up another turbo (EA82) , needs rebuild so i will be doing that soon. Does anyone know if this thing will increase power?, As soon as i picked it up i noticed that the ea82 is much larger, Bigger fins on the fan thingy. Ok, changed the ECU, New Plugs, new coil..........What next?

Ok, what about the little sensor in the spare tire holder just abouve the turbo? Do i need that? I unhooked the purge canister for the fuel tank yesterday and there was no difference in the way it ran, can i get away with that as well?

Dash vacuume gauge?, is that suposed to be somthing my car has?, I have a digi dash, No vacuume tho. ok, i have another question. Would a ECU out of an 84 turbo coupe work in my wagon?, Just to see if it is ECU related. I don't really have the funds to have custom exhaust made up for my wagon, If i did my own exhaust does a turbo have any problems with a low to little back presure set up?, And what about the senser in the cat?, does it have to be there or can i get away with straight pipe from the turbo to the tail. Damn, if it weren't for you guys i don't know where i would be rite now....................No i think i do, My car would probly be at the bottom of a clif rite now with bullet holes all thrue her. Thank you guys for your help so far, Can't wait to jump again to see what else you guys have for me, Hopefully i get this thing running like a subie is supposed to. ~CHIM~

Yeh, now that i think of it i did see a bit of oil in the intake plentum, Ok the turbo sounds easy. I'll be replacing it tomarrow. My firing oreder is correct, Like i said it was running "PERFECT" yesterday, shuter down and the problem's started. I had a few people tell me that the exhaust was plugged but i have plenty of presure at the tail. Could a bad turbo cause it to run poorly at idle?, Persoanly i wouldn't think so but then again i know nothing about FI or Turbo. If the ECU was bad would't the light come on? ~CHIM~
-
Ok, I think my turbo might be going out, I have the opertunity to get a EA82 turbo charger. What i would like to know is will a EA82 turbo fit a EA81 motor?, Bolt up to the down pipe?, cross pipe? And how would i go about hooking the plumbing up for water cooling since my EA81 doesn't have water cooling. ~CHIM~

Ok, let me try this again. If i start it normal it will idle fine now,if i try to exelerate it will load up and start missing but will not raise in rpm at all. If i start it with the exelerator pedal on the floor it will start and rev all the way up, but i have to keep it reved up to drive it, if i allow it to drop below 2800 rpm it will still run but will not speed up when i press the pedal.
-
I checked for all vacuume leaks, found none, Not sure what a fsm is tho. Another problem, when spooled hard the turbo shrils, kinda like a loose fan belt then cuts out until i shift to a higher gear What do i do? I need this car to work!

ok, just got my 84 turbo running, Used a motor out of another 84 wagon with 84.000 on the ticker. Was running great! Yesterday i went wheelin the the guys and the problems started. I was driving this car nice, being really easy on it. Ok, first thing it started doing was it wouldn't idle at all, Had to hold it wide open to start and keep running, The moment i let off the pedal it would die. Any i found a vacume leak and now it idel's , Put loaps during idle,of and onn like it's going to die then back to normal, very quick tho, takes about 1 second to die down then back to normal, and will do it constantly! Now if i let it run a few min. this way when i press on the throtle it will speed up juat a little and load harder and will not exelerate. If i shut the car off and start it up wide open it's fine till i let it down to idle, press the throtle and same thing. ECU light works but never comes on, When i press the throtle it loaps harder and starts puffing black smoke, running really rich. Any ideas?, this is my only running car and i need to get it taken care of ASAP! ~CHIM~

AAAHHH!!! Somthing i forgot to do, I didn't transfer my timing marks from my EA81 flywheel to EA82, next thought, Could my problem be timing? Would it cut out completly if the timing is just a little off? Also, the motor doesn't seem to have this problem when revving it in nuetral. Is there a way to transfer the timing marks after the tranny is allready in? ~CHIM~

Ok, I just got my 84 turbo wagon running/5speed conversion and low mileage motor. Here's whats going on, Every time the tach reaches about 4800 rpm the motor starts cutting out then around 5200 rpm it cuts out completely untill i shift and the tach drops, Does it in every gear. When the tach hits 4800 rpm a warning beep's and the tach lights up red just about the time it cuts out. Does the EA81 have a rev limiter? Or could this be due to the fact that the spark plugs are dirty as hell and the air filter is plugged? The ecu light works for a second after starting the car and goes off, But doesn't come on at all when i drive it or after the the motor cuts out. If it does have a rev limter, Can it be removed?, Also i am removing the digital dash and putting in one from my dead 81 wagon, Hate the digi dash! Im new to FI and Turbo, only had carbed before this guy. Thanks for any help in advance. ~CHIM~
