  1. it,s acculy pretty comon to see hone marks in the bore, i have pulled several heads off of 100+ thousand mile motors and seen that, the bore's on these motors just don't wear very much. As for the clean cylinder i would say either a leaking head gasket or it wassn't firing at all. ~CHIM~
  2. maybe they had 2 guys running the paint booth in the 80's, and the guy working on the passenger side was lazy.
  3. i would assume he's talking about the MAF, dunno tho. So nobody has any takes on this problem? is there a way to remove the fuel cut? im thinking that the turbo might be more efficiant with my new exhuast making it boost to much, does this sound like a possability? i must say tho, the turbo spools ALOT faster now, and sounds absolutly bad rump roast!!! I am also thinking about maybe replacing the vacuume plunger that controls the waste gate to see if that helps. ~Dayten~
  4. Ok, car is an 84 GL10, has a ea82 turbo and custom exhuast, after custom exhuast the turbo lag was reduced alot, not sure if the exhuast is whats cuasing it but when i get around 4800 rpm the moter cuts out a bit, not completly cuts but cuts to the point that it kinda holds rpm and power drops quit a bit untill i shift and bring down rpm again. So.......what ya'll thinkin?, fuel cut? think i might be gettin to much boost? maybe fuel pump? Is it possible to override the fuel cut on these cars?, hows it done? Any ideas would be very awsome as im still new to FI. ~Dayten~
  5. Or........... Tell me wich application a subaru falls under. http://www.surepower.com/pdf/isolatorguide.pdf
  6. Has anyone here installed a battery isolator on there soobie?, Trying to figure out how it has to be wired in, Diagrams? pictues? a type up? Anything will help 84 GL-10 ~Dayten~
  7. I have been planing to this on my car for a while, multi spark would definatly be more efficient.
  8. I put a lagact radiator in my 84 GL-10, fits really good but takes a while to warm up.
  9. Back about 68 years ago (Before i was into subies) i was whaiting for my wife to get off and a EA-81 brat pulled up next to me with that large V8 rumble, I asked the guy what he had in it and he replied "It's a 305 chev. with a TH 350 tranny". Like i said it was way before i was into subaru's but i rember being really turned on by thins car, Had low-pre tires on like 17 inch rims or so, needed paint but was perfect!, looked like a work in progress, it was primer grey with spots of bondo. Now that im into subies i kick myself for never getting pictures, I often wonder how he got it to fit under the hood:confused: ~Dayten~
  10. Try spraying your linkages with WD-40 or a light machine oil, that should keep the linkages from freezing. ~Dayten~
  11. My borther used to own a 1970 ford half ton pickup that did the "Hold handle to lock deal" So not just the japanese cars did that. ~Dayten~
  12. Thats what im gonna do with mine, no more running tryin to make it to a service station if the tires are low. You guys that have lifted subies, Think about deflating your tires for the rock crawlin and being able to re inflate them when your done! ~Dayten~
  13. allmost all american motors have a harmonic balancer, The motor itself is balanced but the hamonic balancer reduces the vibration in the crank shaft making you motor shake less and makes the main bearings a little happier. The harmonis balancer has nothing to do with the pully's, it is a completly different part but just happens to be placed by each other, i wasn't awar that subaru motor's had them. Non of my subie motor's do anyway Anyway a harmoc balancer works alot like the springs your washing machine, bakes it opertae smoother by taking vibartion out of motion. ~Dayten~
  14. is that adapter made for the 32/36 dgev carb? Is they where the same as the subaru's they should have been the same part number, I would recomend using the block made for subaru, there has to be a difference or they woulnd't have made them aplication specific and would be same part numbers. EA-82# 99004-731 EA-81/71# 99004-110 ~Dayten~
  15. The water line was nessasary for me when winter hit, my weber liked to freeze up till i hooked that water line back up, kept it warm as to not freeze. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=51272 ~Dayten~
  16. I had the same problem for a while with my weber freezing up too, There is a little water hose about the size of a fuel line running from the bluck to just below the carb, Make sure that things hooked up. Mine was fine till winter hit then froze up every day till i hooked that thing back up and it stoped my problem, Allows warm water to heat the intake and base of carb. ~Dayten~
  17. lol, i have broke so many motor mounts!!!, i have a problem with dumpimg my clutch at stoplights:lol: , Even dented the hood on my old 81 from the motor hitting it.
  18. i used to run my GL-10 turbo on reguler fuel, on a wim i put the premium in it and have never went back, loves the stuff, all my carbed cars never saw a difference. Here in oregon our fuel doesn't have ethenayl, bud stuff for a motor, it's an alcahol additive to save them money and make you spend more money on maintainence. ~Dayten~
  19. to the people that have done the EA71 swap, Do you guys acculy notice a worth while difference? I have been thinking about doing this for a while now but would like to know what kind of performance difference they give. ~Dayten~
  20. Make sure to put the bolts in the rite order, one bolt is just a wee bit longer and will rub the rotor. After it's all installed check for bolt clearance from the rotor. I made this mistake and messed up my roter a little bit. ~CHIM~
  21. I have done this to so many subaru's, I lost count, my 81 wagon had an ecu and all the emision's carp, how i did it is if i didn't know what it was it went bye, EVERYTHING went! I unplugged the ecu to see what affect it had..............hmm, none, acros the parking lot it went! Put a weber on her has never ran better, even run ALOT! better than all my friends car's that still hace all that crap. Every car i worked that i have done this too, the owner allaways thanks me!, Saying "Thing run so much better than it ever has". I have had very good results with removing that junk, i say go for it!. ~Dayten~
  22. Belive it or not non of mt cars had any dents wen i got them, my turbo (Blue)had a dimple about the size a dime but otherwize in perfect condition!! This happened the first day it ever seen a dirt road while in my posession, She hasn't seen any since! This is my first subaru, this pic was rite after i rolled it at 60mph, i had my camer in the car the whole time but i was a bit shaken up after i rolled it and didn't think of getting a pic while she was on her side. My budy justin posing the damage. I allso jumped this car at 65 landing directly on it's nose almost rolling endo, Got lucky tho! The jump crunched the front end and bent the frame beyond repair and bent the back wheel's out really bad. No pics tho:banghead: . Here's a pic of what she looked like about a week after my jump, "on the way to the bone yard". And here is an 83 wagon that ran and drove when i got her, got alot of good parts off of her tho. these 3 cars used to perefect bodies on them, Now i have a designated wagon for all that stuff, no more punishment on my 84 GL10, and no hard drivin on my RX. ~CHIM~
  23. I had my carbed 81 wagon up to 105 chasing my brother on his street bike, took me a long while to get there, about 3 miles to the floor and finally got there, talk about taching a motor out!!! Also i had my 84 GL10 turbo up to 130 coming back from the mountain, started on down hill but leveled out for about 2 miles and checked by way of GPS, havn't gone that fast again, don't know if it's to smart anyway. I swear that thing has more power than it should! ~CHIM~
  24. I got one for my dad about 3 months ago, he loves the hell out of it, Makes a huge difference he said. I read that the VLSD's take a few seconds to lock up, but i drove my old man's car and it hooked up allmost instantly. my dad is 71yrs old and has one of the most bad rump roast EA82's i have seen, i got that car for him for $50., Dark grey, tinted windows,VLSD, rear disk break's, Webber, Soon to be lifted and power windows. I swear that man refuses to get old, he drives like i do! Ahh, Subaru, brings out the child in all of us! ~CHIM~
  25. There's another one from big-boys to, i was gonna post that vid a while ago but never got around to it. All i can say is "thats gotta be one big turbo charger" http://www.big-boys.com/articles/overmod.html ~CHIM~
