That's cool. I figure this will be the first time in a long time I'll even be wheeling in a group that has any Soobs other than myself. So a little extra flavor is no biggie, at least to me.

I'll make sure I bring $10 in change just in case......

Count me in. Either weekend proly works for me. Big thing is if I'm still needing to drive my sweety into work on weekends or not. Kinda cuts the time I have available down. (drop her off at 8am, pick her up at 5pm) But she thinks the weekend shift will stop some after the holidays. New job and they are trying to make sure she gets the full 40 every week with holidays off right now. It's also soon enough my tags will still be good if I have an issue with DEQ. Those are expired after January. Also be sure to have $5 cash on hand for the day permit out there. hehe. Gregg and his card, I've payed his way in a couple times. And shovels/straps are good in case some burying of a Soob happens. Compressor for airing back up at the end of the day, ect.

Good action shot right there.

I thought of giving you a call. I proly should have when I was picking up stuff for lunch in Hillsboro before I went out of cell range. As I had to wait around in the TSF staging area for about an hour for those guys anyway. (they were not even leaving thier houses till 9:30. I hit TSF about 9) Would have given you time to mobilize. I know Gregg was still finishing up his EJ swap. I've not done anything to it. I found a set of 26" all terrains for it. Had to special order them from Falken. My last tires were only about 24.5-25" So it got a bit of a boost. I don't know if you'd seen it since I cut out the front fenders. I'm really only officially on SORE4x4, and PNWBA. Oh, also on the Sand Lake forum. But it's mostly ATV guys there. These guys were from the R/C rock crawler board I'm on. But I poke around on NAXJA, PNW 4x4's, And a few others. Alot of those guys cross over to different forums so I generaly end up always knowing someone in the group already. (yes I've "crashed" wheeling trips before. Just shown up like "Hey! I saw you guys were doing a run today, mind if I join?" Always turns out good and generaly get invited on the next one.) Or they end up mentioning it on a board I'm already on, get a PM, ect. I just gotta start trying to let you guys know no matter how last minute it is. Just in case. That'll be cool living up there. You'll really be gald you got Soobs in the winter.

Didn't know if I was gonna make this one or not. (had to con the Fiancée into riding into work this morning in the barely heated Soob so I could go) But I made my way out to TSF and met up with a rock loving Sammi and a Unimog. Ran around a bunch of trails and roads just kinda mucking about in the woods. Was pretty icy out there with hard pack snow on most of the trails. Didn't get a whole lot of action pics. I'll add more if those guys post any up on other boards. (their cameras were pointed at me a few times so I hope some good ones turn up.) Now here's the strange part. Neither of them are new to wheeling. In fact they have been doing it so long they are a bit burnt out on it and the Sammi is possibly being sold next year for a daily driver wheeler. The Unimog is gonna get restored and treated a bit more gently. The Sammi has a winch. It got used twice today. I never had it hooked to me. We all ran the same exact trails, I skipped none. (I wasn't gonna let a Unimog and some Spidertrax axle, 4 link having, dig using Samurai show my open diffed stock suspension Soob up!) I also did not have to "hot rod it". Just alot of good line picking. Anyway a few pics. The Mog coming up Firebreak 5 Me parked up near the top of Firebreak 5 while some winching went on down below. hehe Awesome day though. Those were a couple cool guys to wheel with. I hope to get out there again before the Sammi (possibly) gets sold and the rocks are not covered in ice so I can see him put it through it's paces on Canopener or something. Now THAT trail is not Soob friendly. Wish we could have hit a few of the tighter trails. But, well, Unimog. I don't think it would fit under the tree on Cedar Tree. Got back to Portland in time to pick up the lady from work and head on home to Sandy for some Dragon rolls and wasabi. Now for Scoobyclimbs to finish up the hatch and get ahold of Chaz for an all Soob trip to sand lake or something.

Good stuff.

I'd proly say talk to the guys up at Delta Cam up in WA. http://www.deltacam.com/ They do a "torquer cam" for the EA81. (at least I think they still do, I hope so, cause one day...... ) Alot of people here have delt with them.
-
Yeah I forgot my front one is bolted on. I welded the rear one like that. For the front on mine I used the stock bumper brackets and and beefed 'em up a bunch.
-
Nice. Gettin' close. Any chance it'll be pready to play tomarrow? (sunday) And that also depends on if there was anymore word on the HooDoo subaru snow run.
-
Yeah I'm on Sore4X4 (more PDX Oregon based) and PNWbackroads. Though Sore has been kinda dead as far as trips this year. End up going out on alot of NAXJA trips. And other Jeep club trips. I love Jeeps (grew up with a CJ5 for a brother) so I prefer to hang with them.

I'll play! ScoobyClimbs and I up on Mt Hood. Some backyard fun. (what you can't see in the cookie part of the vid is the big tree and parked cars just out of frame on both sides. the Fiancee kinda yelled at me after recording it.. hehe)

If you want it to be a solid part of the car you can get some 2x3" tube and use that for your mounts. At least on an EA81 it slips right into the holes in the unibody and if you make it the right length so it sticks through underneath you weld all the way around the outside. And anywhere you can get with the welder inside (under the car) Pretty much makes the bumper part of the unibody. But you'll never remove the bumper again without cutting it off. How I did mine and I've gotten too closse to stuff and taken rectangular chunks out of the landscape (trees, rocks) and the bumper stays solid. But that's just on the tight trails, like the one out at TSF that's tight for a Sammi. The one Scott posted is so simple and effective. Perfect.

Fun stuff. Had mine in some crossings that had water coming through the vents before. Amazed I didn't hydrolock it. All comes down to keeping the right speed to keep the water pushed out of the way just right. Love wheeling with rigs other than Soobs. They always have the most fun with ya. Went on a run last Saturday and I was the only one NOT in a Jeep. Best comment on thier club site after the fact as a capiton to a pick of my Soob. "That dag gum Scooby didn't slow down all day!" That's a nice lookin Soob you built and he bought.

84 gl wagon 3rd gear issue
TeamCF replied to mountain brat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
5spd swap is the way to go. I'm getting ready to do mine. But it's because 2nd gear is going in my 4spd and you have to hold it in reverse (and it fights hard to get out). 3rd is fine. -
Happy B-Day Gregg! And here's to the hatch's new EJ firing up today.
-
Yeah it was Goat. This was the trees and grass opposite the gravel area to the towers though. (to the east) I miss my weekly wed night trips up there. Dang kids and their matches.... Reinforced the need to be able to fight fires out on the trails though. Need to throw a real shovel in the Soob. The folding Army one is great at 90* for digging snow or sand out from under a buried vehicle. But moving large amounts of dirt/snow/sand fast can be a pain with a foot and a half handle.
-
I could be up for an evening run during the week. Been awhile since I've went out on the weeknight run. I've kinda just been saving the Soob for certain runs these days. I gotta do tags as well. Mine are expired at the end of Jan. And i'm just inside the DEQ line and my last CAT is smashed into dust. Gregg gave me his old downpipe and CAT. Gonna try it even though a few chunks fell out of it.... hehe If not I'll just have to buy one and weld it on. Crap plus I have no air injection system anymore. Still on the old engine.... I gotta get to work.

It was too cold for pics. I got two of the CJ on Canopener and then my finger froze and the batteries died. Nice and windy up there. We never even stopped for lunch as it was just too windy and cold to get out much, the cold would not have been bad if not for the windchill. There was a bit of snow. Only two other guys showed up. One in a Rubicon and one in a CJ5. Both on 36"s. Was a bit of snow. So it was nice and slick in spots. We hit up some powerlines trails, a section of Archers, Firebreak 5, 7-up, Saddle Up, a trail next to the one I led you and Frank down (Rocky Uphill) that one time and it was like Subaru pinball, Hogsback, the second half of University Firepower as the big hill part was closed for the season, I think that's about it. The CJ hit up Canopener and something went "pop" in his front axle. We called it a day after that. I think we were out of there by 1 or so. And I need to block off my radiator. I put a 180* thermostat in and I can't get any heat on the highway now, my temp guage stays pegged at the bottom, if I stop it all works fine but once moving in this cold it just dumps the heat when it opens. And with no interior.... brrrrrrrrr....... I think the seal conditioner is working in my trans though. Buy me a few more runs while parts for the 5spd come in. The NW Backroads tree run next weekend is gonna be cold. I'll have to remember extra socks.

So I'm meeting up with a bunch of Jeeps at the North Plains McDonalds at 8:30am tomarrow for a TSF run. (Some of these guys are not even bringing street legal rigs, so it should be a fun day. And they are excited to see the Soob in action again and would like to see more) Chaz, Gregg, Mike, anyone who wants to. It's late and I'm hitting the hay so I'm not calling anyone. Hope y'all see this. Hope the trans holds together for one more run............. (reason I am not hitting up the HP tree run)
-
I live right near Brightwood. Not seen anyone but Mthoodsub around. Maybe I need to get out more......
-
So I have to get off my butt (and been sick) and rebuild the the 5 speed I have sitting in the garage for the past few months. So I can do the swap. Needs all seals (including the input shaft) And a new input shaft bearing. I ordered the parts. And have accepted the fact it's gonna be a "Put it back together the way it came apart" type thing. But was wondering anyway if there is any info out there on the guts of these things. As far as I know I have to split the case to do the input seal and bearing. But clarification is always nice. I tried Google and all it gives me is nothing. The trans is the TW75F.

Yeah I've always had the rule when exploring (which happens alot solo) to always be wary of trails and such that head downhill if they are new to me. I've walked over a mile down one before and still ended up just deciding to pass it up as it seemed to have no good outlet.

The perfect amount of snow to play in. Looks like you got lucky and hit the right weekend for it. Seems like there is only one or two where the snow is just right. As for the gates. Those gates especially get closed due to the sheer amount of "tourists" (I call anyone who lives closer to town than Sandy a "tourist" these days, not including those that know what they are doing and are prepared of course) that are up in that area all winter. Cuts down on the amount of rescues they have to do up there. Heck a couple years ago Gregg and I had help the Forest Service Law Enforcement get his rig out of there. (he locked the gate once we all got out.) Some of those roads start out at the ski areas, but quickly turn into BFE. And it's all downhill, just because you drove down it does not mean you are getting back up and out.

Looks like some fun. Just got your PM about going...... I really need to get online more often.
