  1. while your in there you might want to do the front cam seals and the front crank seal....
  2. not to sure about subarus but around my way i had to get my windshield in my old saturn replaced and it ran me about $400 installed....they came to my house and everything.....the only thing i wasnt to happy about was that they left my car a mess......
  3. yeah the only thing im missing is that little spring that keeps the tension on shifter knob....i dont think that would do it though......the shifter bushings dont seem that bad.....i would like the get the spring on there and see how things feel before i go ahead and replace the bushings........i will get it in the air today and double check that everything is tight......but this started happening even before i just did the clutch.....it stays in every other gear just fine 1,2,3,5........what i do notice is that when the shifter is in gear and im cruising..when i push on the gas the shifter kind of jerks further into gear, than the same thing happens when i let off the gas.....is this any indication of anything?..........Subaru 360.....were is harrys U pull it?
  4. mdjdc- what was your fix?......i just took a drove to get some gas and i feel like a looseness when i let out the clutch....it may sound stupid but i think the whole trans was moving slightly when i shifted......i better double check all the bolts for the crossmembers/driveshaft etc etc.....the last thing i want to do is replace a trans that isnt bad..... thanks again for all the ideas fellas.....if you have anything other ideas i will give it a check........
  5. thanks for the input fellas i will double check everything tomarrow when i get it in the air........im fairly sure all the mounts are tight and the linkage is tight........the weird thing is that it goes into gear smooth and everything...than just pops out......
  6. ok.....as some of you know my current problems with my 96 legacy ej22 have been with the clutch....well that is all replaced and working wonderfully.....now on the drive home today my suby started popping out of 4th gear you could go down and move it out than right back in again but now every time i put it in 4th it pops right out.....this is the origional trans with almost 190,000 on it......so do i go ahead and remove the trans for a 3rd time to put in a good used unit?......i know i would have to call around for prices but what are the going rates where you guys are for a 5 speed manual trans out of a 96' legacy?.....any help or insight would be appreciated......
  7. could someone who has access run a carfax for me.......96 legacy... 4s3bd4355t6205875.....thanks in advance for your help....
  8. what i can tell you is that subaru headliners (at lest in my 96 legacy) are alot like the cover for the rear deck.....and the way i got that out was just kind of prying on it.....i assume you could give that a try.......what are you tryin to get it off for anyway?.......
  9. yeah i bought the one from Harbor Freight only $40...it tells you what the code is and than you look it up in the book it comes with......currently works well for me........
  10. if it was me i personally wouldnt put them on my vehicle....... like everyone else has said "how much quality work went into these things"......good luck though with whatever you try and do......
  11. thanks fellas....i thought it would be normal....it was kind of entertaining to see...i unbolted the shift linkage removed the driveshaft and slowly lowered the trans and it started poaring.......i figured "well to late now"......
  12. i also had something else happen that maybe you could give me some insight on.......when i removed my transmission i forgot to drain it.....so when i pulled out the driveshaft from the transmission i go soaked in a bath of 80-90 gear oil......Is this normal for there to be fluid poaring out of there?......
  13. i have a 96' legacy with 190,000 and i had the same problem and i just did a clutch kit and now my noise is gone..... when i inspected the old release bearing though it seemed fine and so did the pilot bearing...oh well the noise is gone now....
  14. ok got the whole trans and everything back together today......took it for a test drive and the clutch seems like to easy to apply.......i got a new clutch cable for it but have yet to install it.....it was dark i think i hooked the clutch cable up wrong.....to tired now and dark....looks like it will have to wait for tomarrow......the clutch i put it was an EXEDY....it was like $400 but you pay for quality.......keep you all updated on what i find tomarrow with my clutch cable....and thanks again everyone for your wealth of information and assistance....
  15. thanks alot fellas......i believe it is the right part number for the spring.....now i just need to find the part number for that washer......
  16. Ok what ive got here is a 96 legacy ej22 with a 5 spd.....doing the clutch so the trans is out.......have had very loose shifter for a while.....ruled out bushings they all seem good anyway.......ok.....the question is there is a little spring that connects the stay rod to the shift rod......i am in need of this spring and also the part on the stay rod were the spring attaches (its almost a large washer with an extra eyelet for the end of the spring)....i have included some pics. of what im talking about.....any help at all would be appreciated.....and if someone has P/N that would be fantastic......thanks for your help...... the first pic...... is the washer on the end of the stay rod....i think a while ago when someone had the trans out before me they lost the origonal washer with the eyelet for the spring..... the second pic......is the place on the shift rod were the other end of the spring is supposed to attach.......
  17. yeah i see them all the time.......theres one i was just looking at it was like a 99 outback or something they guy wanted $1000........obviously with leaking head gaskets.....
  18. i thought i read somewhere that it was resolved in 02-03.....i could be mistaken.....someone correct me if im wrong....
  19. i have waited for my gas light to come on a few times....i kind of like it because it gives you a good idea of exactly how many miles per tank of gas you can squeeze out.......though the fuel does cool the fuel pump......prob. not a good idea to let it get that low.....
  20. the new inner tie rod end i bought the joint already came greased....... when i opened the kit from harbor freight i just thought to myself there may be one size that i may use......i think there was like a 17mm in there.....but no i got the extras from a guy i go to school with......i think you can buy the different sizes of crowsfeet from like MAC or SnapOn........
