Question with the ea71 80' Brat
instead of pulling the tranny, pull the motor. Its a lot more simple then pulling the tranny. The first time I pulled the EA71 out of my '79 wagon, it took me and another guy on the board 20 minutes to unhook everything and unbolt it all and pull it out. It was a LOT easier IMO...

did i see the rare rx 4 door?
I did a part-out on an '85 sedan that had everything to be an RX (checkered interior, dual range, turbo, 4wheel disks) BUT it had the digidash as well. It was also this kinda dark funky blue color but it was faded weird and almost looked like a faded black...

takin apart the turbo
I got a stock IHI RHB5 from my '89 RX that I'll sell you for 30 bucks plus the cost of shipping... Worked good when I pulled it so I could drop a TD04 on the car. A little dirty since I had a bad oil leak coming from the return line underneath it

Turbos Turbos Turbos
The TD04 does require some modifications to the uppipe. However, the easiest way but not the cheapest, is to get a TWE header for the EA82. It has the mounting points for the TD04 so its a bolt on procedure. However, the other way its been done has been to mod the stock EA82 uppipe. There are 3 studs that bolt the bottom of the turbo to the uppipe. Two of these studs bolt directly onto the TD04. The 3rd one needs to me moved back about 1/2"-3/4" or so. I basically pulled the stud out, cut it in half, and put the turbo on then welded the stud to the uppipe. Was pretty easy and was the cheapest way to go (free). Once I get my TD04 turbo swap done, I'll be doing a nice detailed write-up plus pics for the USRM...

82 Subaru GL Wagon - Should I Buy?
But of course you CAN swap the 4wd stuff into a 2wd car to make it work. Seen it done/done it myself...

82 Subaru GL Wagon - Should I Buy?
ALL manual EA81 FWD cars were a 5-speed. The 4-speed only came in the 4wd and then the 3AT automatics came in both the 2wd, 4wd and turbo cars...

keep an eye out, they go for as little as $570 bucks shipped. Look for the ones for $420 with $150 shipping, those are the cheapest...

EA82T install help for BPV, MBC, Boost gauge
Caleb, here's the most easiest thing I came up with on the TD04 conversion and I'm doing it to mine currently. Get a WRX turbo inlet hose and it'll hose clamp right onto the stock TD04. Then get a recirc hose for a WRX and it'll plumb right into it. I got it since I'm using the AEM cold air intake from a WRX and so I wanted to get the piece that goes between the turbo and the intake. I got a turbo inlet hose for an '04 STi for 25 bucks shipped and it goes right onto the end of the turbo and it also has the spot where the stock recirc hose plumbs into it. If anything, hit me up on AIM...

Compatability between gen1 & gen 2 stuff..
I don't think they'll bolt in. You'll need to make some sort of adapters for them but I'm not sure. I do know you have to adapt EA82 seats into them making an adapter for them. On the boot lock, you can maybe retrofit an EA82 wagon electric release mechanism into it. As for the door lock, not sure on that one. If you're gonna restore it, might as well do some mild upgrading to it. You can put the newer style EA81 vented rotors and calipers on it OR if you have access to a metal lathe, you can make new stabilizer bars for the EA81 control arms and use the EA81 control arms, hubs, balljoints, etc. I did this on my '79 wagon because the stock EA71 balljoint was like $36.00 a piece where the EA81 balljoint for a lifetime warrant one was $16.00. Here are a couple pics: http://usmb.net/gallery/album211/AUT_3236 http://usmb.net/gallery/album211/AUT_3237 http://usmb.net/gallery/album211/AUT_3238 More pics can be seen here in my gallery: http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo62 If you have any questions, PM me and I can help ya through it. I've also done some other mods to gen 1s so lemme know if I can help. Enjoy!

new decal i found
since they look similar to the gen 1 Brat that was just posted by McBrat, I think they might be for a gen 1 coupe or sedan/wagon. I don't think they'd put that peticular one on the Brat since the Brat was plastered with "Brat" logos...

need help with 5-lug conversion
I thought it would be nice to have it in the USRM instead of having people try to search for it and not really come up with anything. Took me awhile to find it but in the end, it has helped a lot of people since its been added to our wonderful USRM:D

TMIC+Warm weather+Autox=BAD
I'm with Brad on this one Will. Go with a CO2 spray setup and it'll leave no water on the track, PLUS it'll keep your turbo lag down and the cost of buying/fabbing a FMIC onto your RX...

My new '79 wagon....
I think you should send me all the steering parts, dash, etc. to make my '79 4wd wagon RHD and I can send you everything to make yours LHD.... Looks like its not in too abd of shape. See what kind of parts it'll need first before you start restoring it. If it looks like it'll need more TLC then you can give it, part it out cause I know some of the people on the board who own gen 1s might want to convert something on their car like to RHD, or if it is restorable, go for it. How does the body look besides the rust? You might want to think about taking to a body shop and seeing if the rear subframe is indeed bent before making any assumtions. Mine kinda looks like that in the rear as well.

EA71 s/r to EA81 d/r???
so you're planning on using the EA71 in the car right now so no, you won't need anything but the tranny and shift linkage. I even think the driveshaft is the same as well.

is it worth it
this is why I like having garages:D I can park my car in it and lock it up without having to worry about it too much

I'm an idiot to have let this happened
I did a vin swap on my '79 wagon since it has a lean on it from a previous owner and the lien company went out of business. I've tried everything I could but I couldn't get a 'satisfactory of lien' and so came a vin swap. I used a vin from a '78 2wd wagon that got parted and I got most of the parts and the title and vin plates, yes ALL of the vin plates:D I didn't want to part my rust free '79 due to a 'no title' crap...
-
EA71 s/r to EA81 d/r???
you'll need the steering rack and the transmission since if it does have an EA81, it'll have the dual range 4-speed with the top mount starter bellhousing so it'll bolt to an EA71. You'd also need the shift linkage as well since it was different then the regular s/r 4wd tranny

Destudding studded tires?
you can do it with a small flathead screwdriver. It'll take you awhile to do it but it can be done...

78 wagon updated
I'm going to agree with Todd on this one. Pull your valve covers off and see if any of the freezeplugs in the heads popped out. I had an '83 hatchback that popped a couple freezeplugs and had water in the motor for 8 years before I got it And its cool you got the caliper fixed. Glad I could help:D
