'Baru-B-Q and wheelin event, July 26th
Kool. It's a bit of a drive for you, and really nothing compared to walker valley... so thought I'd bribe everyone with food! Nah...It'll be a blast, in a different kinda way. Maybe some higher speed rallying or racing in the open areas around the power towers.

'Baru-B-Q and wheelin event, July 26th
Sunday, July 26th at the Custer, WA. wheelin spot: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=48.902136,-122.621241&spn=0.029282,0.077162&z=14 Exit #266 from bellingham L-Grandview rd. R-Portal way R-Faris rd. L-Under the power line towers...you'll see the trails. This will be a family-friendly event. I'll provide BBQ hot dogs and drinking water, at the least. There are plenty of decent trails for off-roading, rallying, or just bring your subaru to show off. Access is easy, as long as your not lowered. If you don't want to wheel, bring a Frisbee or something! I'm thinking 10:00 or so, to start wheelin, and after noon for the BBQ. This will be a small "event", so don't expect anything grandiose...I'll be lucky if anyone shows up at all. RSVP's here would be appreciated. See you there!

lock rear in EA81
Excellent idea! I'd much rather store just an axle and not have to buy an extra diff.

lock rear in EA81
If it's a daily driver, then the welded diff may not be the best choice. It will skip during sharp turns, such as parking lots and cause premature tire wear. You could always weld up a spare and just swap them out before wheelin.

Cheap easy lift for '84 GL Wagon 4WD?
Sorry that no one chimed in sooner. Searching for lifts would prob not be very successful. I would suggest adding some crossmember blocks to this: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=94629

Found fun in Custer!
Not bad at all, for AT's! I noticed that the tread was pretty slick with mud in the deep pit that stuck me, but that was before I tried slingin it all out. The front drivers wheel musta got buried in a pretty good hole there. I couldn't even steer! This area is just a mile or so from the grandview exit...semi would have done just fine.

Found fun in Custer!
Pam pulled me out with the bronco. I found out after the fact that I had another tow strap stashed in one of the side compartments...could have winched it out with another 6ft!

Found fun in Custer!
I had driven by this property that's owned by PSE, or the city, state, whatever and have seen dirt bikes cruising the trails among the power line towers. It looked small and not very challenging from the street, but I decided to try it out today, since my soob hadn't yet been wheeled. It's practically in my backyard, so my son Matthew tagged along, and we had a blast! The area was a lot bigger than expected, and there were some pretty challenging spots too...at least for me. I even managed to get stuck in one of the mudholes. Next time I might just check the depth first before plunging in. I think this would be a great area to get together for a day of wheelin! The trails zig zag all over, so everyone could take their own path and not have to go single-file. Unfortunately there is a fair amount of trash that's been dumped there too. I could easily see the property owners closing it in the future, if it's not cleaned up. Maybe a certain subaru off road group could clean it up, for all to enjoy??? Pics of the area:

Shift Linkage Mods ?
is right...sorry 'bout that, but an excellent mod nonetheless! Still post #70: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=95517&page=7

Shift Linkage Mods ?
Depends on the difference between the body lift and chassis drop. For me it was only one inch, so I did this simple mod. Post #70: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=100559

Removing tail lights on wagon
The black goo is butyl rubber, and I would recommend using that above anything else. Even silicone would be too permanent, and you may crack the lens in getting it off again. I used DAP gutter and flashing butyl rubber in a caulk tube. Gray or white, no black...who cares!?!

Bolt-in EA series Alternator upgrade. Nissan Maxima alt installation guide.
Finally a thread on this worthy of the USRM. I know that I would have tried the stock pulley first, but sanding down the spacer to fit is the key. Many thanks!

Need more juice. EA71 with GM alt.?
Nice job, GD! I've been planning on doing this mod, but it's not in the USRM yet. This thread was the best info that I could find, but never resolved the pulley swap: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=64404&highlight=maxima I have that same pulley on my working EA82 alt.

I've not yet heard of a specific pulley to use. Taking it to an alternator shop sounds like the best route.

No thermostat summer!?!
Great tip, thanks! I'm going to flush it regardless, but that will be a decent check after it's flushed and installed.
