So begins the insanity *Gathering ideas*
This is going to be the official build thread for my 85' BRAT. I'm building it into a Twin Turbocharged EA81 Beast!!! Its mostly going to be seeing RallyX and the like, so I figured Racing would be the best forum for it. I'm currently fabbing ideas in my head but have a general idea of what the engine bay is going to look like. I'll have pics soon, so bear with me through my description. I'm going to have two intakes feeding two turbos, located behind the engine, on each side of the tranny. Those will be blowing into an intercooler, mounted directly above and slightly behind the engine. That will pipe into a pair of carbs connected to a custom intake manifold. Got a good idea now? Hope so, cuz I need some more. I'm currently researching the best carb for the job, and I'm currently looking up pricing on an intercooler system that will fit my needs. If anybody has any experience with this sort of thing, I would be extremely grateful for their knowledge and maybe even some assistance? Thanks for sharing in my insanity and hope to see you on the flipside! Twitch PS: Pics to come soon!!!

Help - dropped a tool into TC bung hole (Legacy 2.2)
Twitch de la Brat replied to etc's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCorrect. None of the accessories have to come out. And some thing I forgot to mention is that you will need to remove the nuts that are on the engine mounts. (but its kinda given, right?) And what I did, was lift up the engine so that the mounts cleared the crossmember and moved the engine forward until it released the tranny. Twitch

Should I buy it?
Thank you for cerrecting me, I hate it when I'm wrong, but I'd rather eat some humble pie than misguide anyone. And I must say, I much prefer the Quad's myself. They're easier to aim Twitch

Should I buy it?
Wow GD, even I can see that that is an EA81. They went to the solid lens design for the EA82 and on, but the EA81's had the sealed beam. Not to mention that looks a lot like my BRAT's honeycomb grille... I would say you're in the right ballpark at $300, but I would offer $200 and work your way up. Twitch

San Diego?
Go to the User Control Panel aka User CP. It should be the left most option on the "dashboard." Click on it, and about halfway down the list on the side should be "Social Groups." Click that and it'll bring you to the whole group section! Twitch

How do you check gearbox and clutch in a 1996 Subaru Wrx Sti?
HAHAHA! Trust me, I've driven worse. My GF's car for example or the 94 parts lego I just bought. Back on topic... I would leave the car off and play with the shifter. Rapid fire shift from 1-5 with the car off and the clutch pedal out. Check for any sloppiness in the synchros and for any stiffness in the shifter. Next, start the car and while idling, push the clutch in, and do the same test as when the car was off. If there is any catching, the clutch may be out of adjustment or the synchros may be worn, and if the clutch is out of adjustment and the car was driven for a time with it out of adjustment, then the synchros are most likely worn. Hope it helps! Twitch

San Diego?
I'm a bit away from you (north Idaho ), but have you checked the social groups section? There's a So Cal group on there, you might be able to find somebody. Twitch PS: Nice hatchBRAT

Brakes vibrating like crazy
Well, I have. My BRAT is currently looking for some new rotors cuz mine go (squeak*pause*squeak) every second or so depending on speed. Oh and I'm buying new pads as well Oh and Caramonos2000, I would get raybestos, or a similar brand. They're available from csk/oreiley's, and they are what my dad uses on his mail car, and my moms mail car. And you wouldn't believe the kind of torture those brakes take. Twitch

Trans, Clutch, or Both? Please Help!
I'm not too sure on what that might've been. Did you check your clutch linkage? $300 for a new/used tranny isn't bad, but $90 to machine a flywheel? Sounds like a total rip off to me. My GF got her's machined for $45 at the local machine shop. And your clutch should only be about $150 depending on where you go. (hint: I went to csk/o'reileys and got one for $160 after tax) I wouldn't scrap it because if you put that much into it, you could get at least another 200k out of it, depending on the condition of the tranny. '87 Subaru axle length
It may be possible that they ordered you EA81 axles instead of EA82. The EA82 body style is wider than the EA81 by a few inches. I would double check with the manufacturer, to make sure you got axles for a wagon/sedan, instead of a BRAT or hatch. Twitch

subaru tidbits
Look up SuberDave. He has a WRX powered GL wagon Or Caboobaroo, he has some pretty sweet mods. McBrat, he has an awesome BRAT over here. That's just a few of the many interesting mods around here. May I ask what your husband's user name is? Twitch

Is there a demand for bolt pattern adaptors?
Is this project still in order? You have somebody over here kinda begging for some redrilled EA81 hubs to the 5x100 pattern. I was going to go with a full lego/imp swap into my BRAT, but if I can get the hubs redrilled, I may not go with the full swap. I may just swap the struts and go with the adapted hubs. Twitch

Weber & Brakes Problems - EathQuake Damage!
Well, JesZek... I say get an EA81 and put it in there I'm sorry to say your sube has stumped me. The leaking hose is probably your overheating problem, but other than that I have no clue. If it seems like you're burning rich, maybe you need to rebuild and rejet your weber. Twitch PS: I'll see if I can send you a can of seafoam!

Early 90's small Pickups; Who made good ones and who made junk
Yes, I read the original poster's question's and his requests, and I can find an early 90's S-10 with a 4.3 vortec for around $2000-2500. I can't find an early 90's nissan or toyota for less than $3000, and that's if you're lucky. And I wasn't trying to start a horse power war, I was just pointing out that when it comes to towing, the more horses, the better. And weight is also a deciding factor, the heavier the tow vehicle, the less like it is to be pushed around by the vehicle being towed. And I'm betting that Ford isn't a ranger! I myself have always been an AMC fan, so I understand your liking of your CJ. I always wanted an Eagle 4x4 Wagon And I must kindly disagree with you and end this argument before the mods start getting into it too. Thank you for not attacking me personally, and I apologize for seeming like a royal jerk. Twitch

My latest aqusition, Free 1978 Corolla

Early 90's small Pickups; Who made good ones and who made junk
Is it creepy to say I love you? That is exactly what I thought when he thought his little Nissan could out work an S-10 with a vortec 4.3 I have no qualms with Nissan, they build a decent car and a decent truck, and one #3!! of a sports car. But their trucks can't match up to Chevy for working capability. Twitch

Weber & Brakes Problems - EathQuake Damage!
Have you replaced your fuel filter? Since you said you usually travel at lower speeds, your high speed run may have churned up the gunk at the bottom of your tank. It very well may have clogged up your fuel filter or if the filter is after the pump, ruined you fuel pump. And the leak by your water pump may be the cause for the burning coolant smell and the over heating. Also, your high speed run may have jarred (shaken and beaten) your wheel bearings to the point that they are going away on you. Twitch

Floor Mats
Nope, but I wouldn't doubt if they exist. It seems pretty standard that manufacturers have their label on everything they get their hands on. Twitch

Losing a fuse?
I got a new ignition coil and plugged my open EGR, and I must say, It is a LOT quieter. I'll be torturing it out at work (pizza delivery, lots of start, stop stuff) on Wednesday, 6/10. Wish me luck! Twitch

Weber & Brakes Problems - EathQuake Damage!
Hey JesZek, I can help with the post title. When you edit the first post, right above the main body box is the title box. Then just change what you want to change. And I don't want to sound like the sayer of doom, but it sounds like your sub blew its headgaskets. :-\ I don't know if its earthquake related, but it sounds just like a blown headgasket, stuttering, no power, and burning coolant. Twitch

Help please
Tah Dah!!!! PIX! This setup should work for you. And that's electrical tape wrapped around the fuse and connecting wires. I cut a hole in the top of fusible link cover so the fuse stuck outside the box. Twitch PS: I'll post pictures of my box soon.
