  3. the car is already noisy right now i am running dunlop rovers and have gotten two flat tires this weekend. i cant have that happen out here.
  4. hey guys im looking at new tires for my 91 legacy. i live in a very rural out of the way area with -40 degree winters and 100 degree plus summers; gravel, dirt and mud roads and a hundred miles from everywhere. I have been looking at these: http://www.amazon.com/BFGoodrich-Mud-Terrain-Off-Road-Tire/dp/B004QGZC5W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1339379900&sr=8-1 any ideas? tire size is 215/75/r15 and i have a four inch lift with outback struts and wheel spacers
  5. The ecu reads the cam and crank sensors for spark timing. because only the driver side cam has a sensor, it might work due to the waste spark system. i need to think about it for a while though. you are hurting my brain! edit: if you turned one crank 180 degrees it probably would not run due to compression problems. what you should start working on is how to make adjustable cam gears so that we can retard or advance cams without having to get delta cams.
  6. My rims are off of an 85 Toyota Hilux
  7. Very aware, it has bit me on previous builds. When i get more time and money, i will reinforce it.
  8. Got the engine back in today! still need to install the strut towers and steering link and then i can start on the back end!
  9. Funny :-p I do think it needs more headlights though....
  10. I just need to get the engine re-timed and fix my shift linkage and then the motor should be able to go back in!
  11. Hey guys Because being a full time student and having two jobs isnt enough, i decided to lift my daily driver, while at the same time, replacing my blown transmission. Progress so far: Got the front half done except for the strut towers and bracing, need to cut out the middle bits, the boss let me use the plasma cam to make the end pieces. Things are moving along nicely.
  12. I have those same tires on my wagon. they work great and i only paid a hundred bucks for them.
  13. Hey guys, Doing a 4" lift on a 91 legacy with a 4EAT, and it occured to me that the speedo cable will not be long enough to reach. Never had a problem with that before when i was lifting gen 2s and 3s. can i take a cable off of a different model? or do i need to buy a gps. Thanks!
  14. maybe. on the same note, how hard is it to remove a lock cylinder on a gen 2 after it has locked without a key?
  15. I have used all 12 subaru keys i have. non of them work. Also the nearest subaru dealer is 100 miles away, and there aren't any reputable locksmiths in my town I know that the key code is on the passenger door, but i don't know if anyone here could do anything with it.
  16. Hey guys can anyone here get me a key for my 84 wagon if i get the door code? The guy i bought it from (my co-worker) lost the keys and was going to crush the car. Or is there some other way to easily get a new key made?
  17. Yeah that's the conclusion i came to as well. the unfortunate part is i cant find any used units anywhere.
  18. Hey guys, i've got a 91 legacy with a 4EAT, and it has crapped out. I was plowing through a snow drift in manual 1st and something let go and it acted like i was in neutral. I put in in drive, and it started in second gear and i make it home. I went out today to go to work and i put it in manual first to see what would happen. something locked up and it would barely move. i shifted into manual second and it would go, but it dragged like it was fighting first gear. i had to drive it to work because it's my only legal car, and one of the clutches or clutch packs smell burning when i got there. btw its only a mile to work. has anyone else had a similar problem? also i cant find any technical data for the transmission like clutch application charts, or even rebuild procedures. i dont want to drive the car till its fixed. good thing i was gonna buy a bicycle anyway thanks!
  19. I couldn't even tell you how many times i have been passed by cops doing 100+ mph
  20. pour in a half can, and that's it. you can pour the rest in your gas tank. then go drive it like you stole it to work out the gunk in the lifters.
  21. read this post here: http://legacycentral.org/library/torquebind.htm then go to your favorite parts store and get a can of trans-x. what's going on is you have an internal leak in your output shaft housing. this stuff will seal it up. It will also clean up some of the gunk built up inside the tranny. but you should do that after you replace the pan filter and fluid. I did the trans-x last friday after having the same problem as OP. Now it's all fixed
  22. In closing, today in class we learned that if i wanted good gas milage, i should have brought my geo metro with me when i moved out here.
