  1. I had one mounted and tried on the new shoes. they fit! and they only rub when the car is flexed out on corners! So let it be known that it is recorded that you can fit 215/75/r15's on a gen 1 legacy sedan with outback struts and springs. EDIT: it would appear that they have about 1/8" clearance in the front of the rear fender well. you have to remove the plastic trim piece and cut out about 1" of metal.
  2. The Jeep still hasn't been found. keep your eyes open
  3. Hey guys what's up! Haven't been here in a little while. Got the Legacy runnin good, just did a bunch of work to it. Anyway, it's a 91 Legacy sittin on 98 outback struts and springs, with 195/75r14's. I just picked up a set of the 15 alloy GT rims and I am wondering what is the biggest size tire i can run. I have a set of lugged out 215/75/r15's that i had on my 85 GL. I would love to use these, because they are paid for. Here is the car as it sits now And these are the tires: So I am hoping that these will fit, i know i might have to remove the mudflaps And another question as well; What is the best color to paint the GT rims? I was thinking about painting them gloss white, but if i did that, i would have to keep them clean. Would something like gloss black look good?
  4. wednesday morning: after the commute: that afternoon: trying to clear out the parking lot: After that, i went across the street and towed about 6 people out of the mall parking lot, then when i tried to go home, the timing belt jumped about 10 teeth. A guy in a truck towed me back across the street and i dumped her in the parking lot and i managed to replace it today, after digging her out.
  5. these ones http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/accessory-lights/6-inch-off-road-light-system-95811.html
  6. So is there anyone in Australia who sells air cleaner boxes and throttle linkages for a dual carb EA-81? Because that's what i need for mine.
  7. This is a little off topic but i think it is relevant. How would a dual carb EA81 stand up to a EJ18 swap? EDIT: Parts car! http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/pts/2195989311.html Jeff, this is the guy i bought my legacy from. he lives about a mile from my house. want me to contact him?
  8. used ones for 15 bucks a piece at the junk yard
  9. Another one?!?
  10. hey guys. i have been browsing the internet looking for a new clutch disc for my wheeler, and the biggest problem i have is that they don't specify weather it is for a 2wd or 4wd. I can get a clutch kit through work for 130 dollars, but being the cheap rump roast i am, i am looking to spend less than that if i can, and that includes spending 35 dollars at farrels auto wrecking for a disc that is in better condition. i dont want to spend a lot because i am a starving college student that spends way to much on cars anyway. so if anyone can recommend a place to find a clutch disc for cheap, that would be awesome. looking to spend less than $40 shipped btw. thanks guys!
  11. you can fit the 235/75-r15s without lift if you cut out the fenders and hammer in the wheel wheels. It shouldn't hurt the tranny if you use low range up to 35 mph with that tire size If you want to upgrade the alternator here is an excellent way: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=983463#post983463
  12. A welded diff in the snow is a terrible idea. it sends the back of the car sideways and you end up fishtailing until you stop gaining speed. I would recommend a 5 speed transmission swap but i do not know if that is possible at this point. Also get some larger tires. not sure what selection you have where your at. You also might want to strengthen the underside of the car, or make skid plates, or something of the sort You shouldn't hurt the tranny in low gear as long as you dont excede 35 mph/55kph. Those trannys have a thing for blowing up 3rd gear and reverse though, in their old age Also, a brush/deer guard, offroad lights and high output alternator might be a good upgrade For tire size, 215-75-R15 is a good tall, skinny tire for snow use and turn radius in the fender well, though some cutting and bashing is required What are you going to do to keep the engine warm? I assume you will be in some freakin cold places, dont want the motor to freeze.
  13. 85 GL wagon Before: After: and my 88 XT before: After: and my 91 legacy before: after: now has outback struts, 195/75r14 tires and better visibility
  14. i would like to know how they are wired. the most i have put on a car is 10 including the stock ones, and these are wired on independent circuits each with a fuse and relay, with a high output alternator. one would think that it would stress the charging system a little bit
  15. yes, but an inch block is almost too small to use.
  16. saw this today, if i had the cash i would get it in an instant http://bellingham.craigslist.org/cto/2007043508.html
  17. you can get clay bar at any auto parts store. it is with all the waxes and washes. Mother's brand is a good one.
  18. Hey guys, I'm in the middle of making my 88' XT rear wheel drive, and am having some issues with the front cv axle. When i pulled the shaft out of the hub, the inner wheel bearing and seal went with it. so i have a new wheel bearing and seal installed, and now i cannot install the outer shaft back into the hub. I have greased the shaft and the inner races of the bearings and it still will not go in. What tricks are there to install the spindle shaft? The last time i did a front axle, it just slid right in.
  19. makes me want to get slightly more insurance coverage on my car(s)
