  1. guess i should go to great falls one of these days. maybe i will swing by the subaru dealer there. Also, it's freakin cold here. that probably doesn't help.
  2. the car does actually warm up to operating temp, thanks to the cardboard i put over the radiator. It would even warm up quickly at -10 degrees before i put in the cardboard. And Nipper, the oil gets changed every 3000, on the dot. I'm wondering if maybe cleaning out the intake might help. And is there a kit out there to rebuild injectors? maybe they have gotten sticky over the years.
  3. 258xxx miles, i serviced the brakes a year ago, just checked em yesterday, looks good. the car runs like a champ except when you first start it, then it idles at about 500 rpm. no check engine light, and i aligned it myself about 6 months ago.
  4. When i go to Great Falls from Havre, i average from 85 to 95 m.p.h. takes about two hours.
  5. I would like to drive through the whole tank, but its only two miles to work and back, and the nearest population center is 102 miles south, and i have no reason to go there :-p
  6. Ok. I've driven 82 miles since last fill-up and i just put in exactly 6 gallons at the pump. 13.6 mpg. Although i have no idea how i drove 82 miles. Especially when the town i live in is 3.5 miles square.
  7. k. when the gauge read a hair above E it gets 13.5 gallons, so that what i am basing this off of, but i will go and fill up real quick to get some exact numbers, should take about 30 mins. and i have been keeping track of mileage too.
  8. yes, complete tune-up, from plugs to pcv, 1/4 tank of gas to go 15 miles. so 14 gallon tank. 3.5 gallons into fifteen miles. 4.2 mpg. Also, its an automatic, which i have 100% flushed, and replaced both filters and added an extra tranny cooler. and i have 215/75r15 size tires.
  9. Exhaust is all intact except where i chopped the muffler and put in a glasspack. She has all the heat shields too. Its a Washington car that has no rust whatsoever
  10. Hello all, My 91 Legacy is getting terrible gas milage. I've been keeping track and i am only getting about 100 miles to a tank of gas during in town driving. What sort of things could be causing this? I have my tires set at 35 psi, cleaned the maf, am running non ethanol fuel, and seafoamed the gas and oil. Also, the exhuast does not smell rich, and there are no fuel leaks. What the heck
  11. sweet jesus, this will be one heck of a car
  12. Here's the displaced legacy! Wish i had my wagon with me out here...
  13. Ethanol makes all cars built before 07 or so run like crap. it also eats away at everything like fuel lines, o-rings, and pressure regulators. I know it made my 91 lego get about 15 mpg. and it ate through my fuel lines!
  14. there ya go, To upgrade the alternator, it depends on if you are on a budget or not. If you are not on a budget, go to your local parts house and get a reman xt-6 alternator. should run you about 140 bucks plus a core. If you are on a budget, then find a nissan unit at a junkyard. i'd prefer it over a GM swap after having done both of them. It takes more time to get the spacer right, but less modding the car, and you can easily switch back.
  15. There's my rigs The legacy has a stock alternator, seems to handle the current just fine. The wagon had a Nissan alternator when the picture was taken with a beefed up alternator to battery cable to handle the extra current. The more the merrier
  16. I went to my local junkyard and talked to them about the carb. Its a 500 cfm off of a ford. gonna clean it up today and start working on the block. also, doesnt the dual carb motor have a different cam than the regular one?
  17. Also i have all the parts to make this project happen.
  18. Hey guys whats up. What the heck happened to the Board? :-\ So what do you guys think about putting a holley 2 barrel (that i believe is 500 or 350 cfm, not sure yet) on a dual carb EA-81 block? Any ideas or experience with that sort of thing? I was going to port a single carb manifold and i already have an adapter plate to mount it with, and drop the whole shebang into my 85 wagon. ~yohn
  19. So, when you get water in your auto tranny it has the tendency to turn the fibrous clutch pack discs into a papery goo. I cant recall off the top of my head, but i have a feeling that is what controls 3rd and 4th gear, and i do know that a clutch pack controls power to the rear output shaft and hence, binding. I have a feeling that the soggy clutch discs are whats causing your problems. unfortunately there is no real way to find out unless you feel like pulling your tranny apart. I wish i had my power flow charts with me so i could know for sure, but i went home over the holidays . Anyway, that is my theory and for your sake i hope i am wrong. ~Yohn
  20. this would seem like a problem, but it isn't with steel rims. using open headed lug nuts, tighten the original bolt holes to proper ft/lbs (85?) to center the rims. then flip the other two over so the flat side is facing the rim on the drilled holes and torque to spec. easy as pie and i have done this on all of my gen 2s and 3s
  21. Or be a man and use a hand held drill and a 1/2" and 1/4" drill bit with and old brake drum/rotor with 2 lug studs knocked out.
  22. Why would they compare a base model bare bones 4 banger station wagon against a full size v-8 suv with all the options? sounds like the result of one too many drinks. Or something i would do.
  23. 185/85r13's will fit your loyal just fine... if you can find them. Those are my preferred tire size for the stock rims.
  24. hey guys. i picked up an 84 wagon and am trying to make it functional. the last things i am trying to fix are the reverse lights, turn signals, and high beams. i am not getting power to the reverse lights. could this be the reverse switch? how common are they to failure? On the turn signals, i replaced the flasher box, and the only other thing i can think of would be the switch itself, right? Then on the high beams, when i turn them on, the normal headlights lights turn off, and nothing else happens. however i can hear a relay clicking. Also, all the fuses+links are good. help!
