  1. I buy my ball joints at autozone... that was years ago. now i just bring them a worn out BJ and get a new free one:headbang: lets see 3 brats and only paid for 2 new Ball joints:clap: and now I need 2 more for next build
  2. i did not think of that. I gave my brat to my nephew and 6 days later he called telling me this is what hapenned. working on it tomorrow and sure hope its an axle??? thats easy fix... I have 2 spare transmissions so I am prepared to change that tomorrow.. I was thinking maybe something internal to 4wd shifter, because no strange noises, or so an 18 year old says???
  3. driving in 2wd , heard a bang and now only drives in hi or lo 4wd ranges? 4wd shifter seems to operate properly. can this be fixed or do I need a New transmission.???? no noises from trans while driving now...
  4. I have that and the radiator shell from subaru. crashed mine once and bought 2 setups for next time.. hope to never need them though.
  5. I made my own pin socket. you just need a welder, somne metal and an old 1/2" socket. I have used mine half dozen times and is the way to go. I will use it again soon because I have a rear suspension completley disassembled for painting.
  6. very easily done. i have made severeal front/rears and am currently building another set. helps that my brother is a railing builder and has access to all the pipe benders, nothers and supplies. use , 1 1/2" angle . bolted to stock bumper locations, sticking out from body as needed. and weld some pipe to these angles, light tabs, brush guards, flag holders, recovery points its all up to your imagination. great and easy project...
  7. a piston could be stuck in and not working, too. this happened to me once becuase the piston was all rusty
  8. yeah, way to save a GL, is no brat but just as fun... now you can sell it for $100 profit.. ah just kidding... drive it and enjoy because they dont make cars like this anymore
  9. I was going to weld it anyways as per 2.7 turbo did in his build.. weld the coolant ports sure is a good idea!!! thanks for that reminder... If I dont end up using the intake atleast it will ready for next build up.
  10. I just bought a trans dapt 2107 for my ea81 will I not need this for my weber???? or is it wrong one ??? i read the thread and it said ea81 is same write up?? WTF mykeys toy:( basiccally the same write up ??? not really if the adapter plate is not the right one on an ea81!!!!!
  11. ea81 with weber ea81 with spfi ej22 w D/R 5 speed. I have about 7 ea81 and several D/R 4spd. I just bought the trandapt adapter for a webber . I have a ej22,all mated with plate to the 5 speed, engine mounts, wiring, exhuast flanges, shifters. Sounds like I have everything to install the ej22 but the wiring is incomplete,no radiator. If you had your choice of the 3 setups which would you put in a rust free brat with 104,000 miles? I am going to lower a bit by clocking the rear torsion bars upwards and cutting a half of a front coil . I have Allied Armament 15x6 wheels and thinking that 225/50 or 215/50 tires all around. This will be a summer Brat for daily driving and commuting. I have 6" lift in my winter brat beater. I want the best perfomance with as little headaches as possible!!! I have driven ea81 4 speed brats for 20 years and 150,000 miles between 4 difefrent brats. Not going to racing this brat or expecting to break speed records . just want a better performer then the stock ea81 setup. In my readings I believe that the weber will not perform that much better and the spfi will only improve drivibility, starting and possiblly MPG..I dont care about MPG at all..!!!!! I am leaning towards the ej22 but the time and lack of spare parts is telling me NO.. Give me some ideas and your choice. Oh and I have 02 2.5 that spun a rod ..I have the crank polished and in future a frankenmota is possible:drunk:
  12. I called and talked to someone at the autobody shop. He said it was sold to someone in Wisconsin??? The brat is solid with no rot at all.. Light blue and faded graphics that I never saw before. Yes, it is currently in Clovis NM.... Lifted baja? now thats interesting, too
  13. I came into Clovis Nm last Saturday and spotted a jacked up brat at the autobody shop. Last night I went and looked at for curiosity:lol: Well it looks like a 6" lift, 235/75-15 tires but an automatic:banghead: Being that I am from NH I had to see a rust free brat , because they are super rare up north. ( rust free versions) I have 7 brats at my house. 4 are driveable:banana: I called the shop today and not for sale as someone:confused: from Wisconsin has purchased it already. Is that someone here???? This brat is in great shape and is best I seen in years.....The only thigs I did not like about it were the auto box and the lift blocks were weak looking. I have 2 autos at my house for the purchaser when he needs them. I drove both brats home so I am sure they work. But I would go with a manual transmission.
  14. CLAY !!!!!!! yucky Should hold a gallon and half when all purged..
  15. I have installed 2 cells in 2 diffrent gen 2 brats. all i ever hooked up was a feed line to fuel pump and the return line from stock carb ...no problems for 2 years from either brat
  16. any adapters available out there?????
  17. take everything brat related as stated.....fun roofs, lights, side steps, bumpers, doors if the bottoms are not rotted, you could profit like $20 and ship this stuff all over:banghead:,deal with endless emails, send pictures to people who want it parts for $2.. oh the fun you will have:brow:
  18. got into Goodland KS. at 3:30,,,spotted a brown/yellow generation 1 at wendy's at exit 17 by 4:30 co-worker was stupafied:brow: I hunt it down again tommorrow.
  19. i was in pendelton but now i am in spokane...by weeks end i will be back home in new hampshire.,.. there is a 79 red brat in airway heights walmart. nand saw one for sale in book on way into restraunt
  20. v6 should fit.. i put a brat on 75 bronco frame and the 302 v8 fits in engine bay with some mods to right frame rail narrowing... has mustang headers. maybe with difrent manifolds no frame mods would be neccassry . my next attempt will be v8 drag brat..... sleeper style . will look stock and slow till i gas it:Flame:
  21. i have seen 2 blue gl convertibles at the same lot in massachusetts . the guy had a barn full of subaru parts. sold me a brat bed full of stuff for $50. and 2 wooden steering wheels for $50 each.... he saaid 50 were given to new england dealers from Ernie Boch who is a huge dealership chain.
  22. i know that picture,,, mine happened on other side. the tire was flat on ground. looks like yours busted in same area. i replaced mine but before i installed i welded stiffing metal to last longer. i have an arm if you need it..... or a pair for when the right one fails.
  23. those are long shocks!!! i found this thread last night, and think your doing a great job and is a great project that thinks outside the box. i put a brat on early bronco frame that fits 37"tires. wish i would have went with subframe and 4 links. i do have the James Duff rear 4 link though. i did notice y-pipe exhaust seems close to upper links, but picture may be deceiving me., could you post picture with tires so i can see completed stance:grin: i have 5 more brats in backyard so another monster is in my future. right now doing an ej22 swap and a complete stock rebuild to another brat. keep the posts coming and more once its completed,, dont let the haters bring you down... i sure most dont have enough forethought to think outside the boxer engine ,never mind a box !!!!!
  24. I need similar help to my brat....have rear suspension completely apart for paint. Would like to lower by resplining torsion bars a tooth on adjuster..but not sure how to measure...do you set side arms at certain angle in related to torsion tube mounting pads. Ts Front I read cut half a coil or use Turbo springs.but using some coilovers would be real nice
  25. I not exactly sure.but 12 volts to coil and choke should be enough. coil 12 volts.with 2 wires from distribuor to coil also.
