  1. I feel for you man. I've got the same problem as you. Looks like the PO overfilled the battery and didn't neutralize the acid before the rot set in. I have already cut this box out as a replacement. Good thing is this is the worst rust spot on my whole car. And it's an east coast car. If you weld the new in, stitch weld first, then go back and close up the stitching. Keep the heat to a minimum in any specific area to avoid warping the thin steel. (Advice from someone that hasn't done his yet.) Regards, Jay
  2. ScotTM is running 195/60/15's on an EA82 wagon with pugs with no rubbing. Tire fills the fenderwell, but I would put 205/50's on there if you are thinking of autocrossing. Better cornering transition with the lower profile. When I fit 205/50/15's on my RX I bought a used tire for 20.00 to test fit. These were OB wheels on a five lug conversion, so the offset was completely different, BTW. Jay
  3. Don't you already have the hubcaps on your XT? Thought I wasn't paying attention, didn't you? Saturday night, Jay
  4. On sun. I am going to be fabricating those tools for the EA82. At the least the cam tensioning wrench. i'll post a couple pictures and if you like them, I could probably make a couple more for EA82 or other applications. I will see how it goes. Regards, Jay
  5. Will the glass fit? I'm selling a 90 (see marketplace) and have found a sunroof glass to replace the cracked one in the car now. The glass that is in the car now has a crack in one layer of the glass and the laminate is holding up well. (not separating bad yet) It doesn't leak but looks bad to a potential buyer. Does the 93 glass fit? Thanks for any replies. Jay Btw all the soda cans and the rainx wiper fluid will be a free gift to the buyer.
  6. The icon on the top right of your screen is the BEST icon on the board. SEARCH Learn to navigate with it and it will become your fountain of information to entry level Sube questions. If what you find doesn't answer your questions, post them. You inadvertently stumbled into a hot topic on the board this week. No disrespect intended, Jay
  7. Asking the obvious but. You are trying to get it off with the wheel on and the car sitting on the ground, right? Jay
  8. if you need any help on the Justy. I'm not schooled on 'em, but two brains are better than one. I'd just like to see it go ripping up and down your driveway scaring the chickens! Jay
  9. and your going full tilt boogie into a hard , say, right hander(2), the lightened flywheel will allow you to gear down, blip revs quickly , notch it into a lower gear and never upset the weight balance of the car until you want it for setting up the corner. Trail braking can be done with the brakes and gas at the same time, OR just don't match the rev of the next lowest gear and let the tail drag into the corner. then it turns into a balancing act til you clomp back down on the go pedal. Hence, "Don't look where you are going, look where you want to go." Just lightened mine 4 1/2 pounds. We'll see. Aren't I just full of myself tonight? Jay
  10. I'll add to TROGs comment. Switch it in and put the car in reverse with the wheels straight, let the clutch out slow and flip the switch while letting the clutch take up the weight of the car. No? Do it again. Mines a bit slow sometimes. This is how mine switches off. Jay
  11. This has been covered numerous times. try the search function. Top right of your screen. Jay
  12. Even before I saw your location, I knew you weren't from anywhere near the East coast. This is pretty, what I've got for rust. No real big deal. I'll trade you the rust for some interior trim pieces and vinyl from out your way. Eh? :-p I have seen this area in EA82 cars being non existent. Not there. Jay Note the first ever use of a smiley to denote sarcasm.
  13. You can use an old piece of vaccum hose to get the spark plug started into the threads to make sure you don't cross thread it. Put the hose on the top of the spark plug and get it seated in the hole, turn it counter clockwise first until it mates to the threads, then start tightening until the hose starts to slip. Sounds corny, but it works. I second what Beauregaardhooligan said. Anti-seize is your friend. Jay
  14. More info on the totalled car if you please. Picture? Jay
  15. Working on cleaning the engine bay and fixing the one bad rust spot before the engine goes back in. Waiting on parts, so I don't want to get into the engine until the parts get here. Does anyone know what spray bomb color matches the original white on the RX the best. Since I only have this one spot to do I'm not going to break out the paint gun. Jay
  16. I knew that I was going to have to replace some of this sheetmetal. Not as disheartening now that I have it all taken apart. Will be cutting and welding within the week. After looking at the area good and close, it appears that at some time in this cars life it had a battery explode. Not bad, but I can tell from the paint and where the steel is corroded that something along those lines happened. After cutting some of the original battery platform out. See the hole? The splatter on the radiator support.(grey) Little cleaner, not so daunting a task as I initially thought. Going to be taking this box and the the flat part of the inner fender too. Just looking to take enough out to get to good metal on the RX. I've given this part of the car a good once over thinking that the acid had started an unstoppable bout of cancer. It seem to be concentrated in just this one place and didn't make it to the frame rails. Maybe not an explosion, just a badly done battery fill with a hose? Breaking out the MIG. I hate welding on this thin stuff. Give me a piece of 1/4" plate anytime. Regards, Jay
  17. This is the thread that explains my problem : http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1046&highlight=unusual I didn't have a FSM when I started with this problem but I have replaced enough parts to rule out almost everything BUT the ECU. Got the ignition relay replaced under the dash. Cam sensor, crank sensor, igniter, no trouble code. This has been an ongoing problem but was the reason to buy a 2002 Legacy so this car has become yard art and fixing it has been low on the list. My apologies to snotrocket for the wrong part. Thanks for the pic Josh. We'll see. Jay
  18. Relay for the intermittent wipers on an 87 is located on the lower panel below the steering column. The one you remove to get to the ECU. I asked if they park because if you disconnect that relay the int. wipers don't work or park. I don't think the relay is your problem. Jay
  19. Where is the ECU located on the 1990 Legacy automatic wagon. Haynes states it's under the passengers side footwell. This new info is bad and good. Good that I have another attempt at replacing the ECU in the wagon in hopes of it not being a yard ornament anymore. (I'm this close [] to hanging Christmas lights on it!) Bad in that I inadvertently send someone the wrong part in the mail. Guess who? How much did you pay me for it? I forget. I'll bump you for shipping it back too, just throw the receipt in the box. Hey! I want my corndog box back! Jay
  20. this FSM shows 3 connectors for the ECU. Or am I not reading it correctly? Regards, Jay
  21. Try Legacy777s websight here and look at the pictures in the Engine help section about ECU codes. Jay
  22. Just saw this message. yeah, 205/50 15's fit. The clearance on the outside of the fenders wasn't a problem. It was tire to strut that was close. i bought a used tire and test fit with the 98 OB wheels. Don't remember the offset. I can't get my pinky finger between the tire and strut.( how is that for scientific) The only rubbing I have encountered is high speed full compression, the top of the tire hits the fender liner. BTW the tires are Sumitumo HTR 200's. My first set of these, they rated above Yokes on the tire rack, and I like Yokes. We'll see. Jay
