I think the engine is jacking up, changing the geometry on the front drive axles. Check your right motor mount. Then tranny mount. Jay And don't forget to post your fix when you find it. Good Luck.

DeltaCams XT6 Dyno results
gravelRX replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
WJM, You put a cam, ground to spec for a turbo on a non-turbo car? If you did, you are not going to see any gains at all. Is that really what you did? Jay Scott, Ovaling the for cams sprocket holes sounds intriguing. Please elaborate. Good luck on tracking down the hp, Myx. -
OK, I'm in. # 2416. Two cars. Now if I can get this electrical issue taken care of, I might get a chance to get it dirty before May. Regards, Jay Watch the board for a big rambling post on my problem if I don't get it figured out soon. I'm not even having a beer when I work on it. Now that's a serious, have to figure it out, head scratching electrical gremlin.

Rick, what are your thoughts on the shielded wire coming off the distributor? I also am having a non-start issue and the shielding on the distributor wires in not contiguous due to a needed splice. It's good that you have such excellent tools to play with. Should make short work of your problem. Regards, Jay jaykili(at)cox(dot)net -
Go to Barnes and Noble and get the book How to make your car handle by Fred Puhn or another is Chassis Engineering by Herb Adams. Will save you lots of time, trial and error, and general hardship. The Herb Adams book is a bit old, published in 94, but it covers the basics. Good luck with your car Respectfully, Jay

or around about that. I didn't know what to expect, but the cylinders walls being what they are, I was pleasantly surprised. Makes me feel better about rebuilding the top end. Jay -

Looks really good. Like the wheels, they fill up the fenderwells well. I've got the same size gauge and mounted two of them between the seats in the console. Looks pretty good, but as I suspected, they are not as easy to read as I had hoped, especially when your trying to get down the gravel/dirt with haste. In my parts wagon (88 Turbo) I've disasembled the dash and believe there is enough room to the left of the instrument cluster where the rear window defogger is located to mount two gauges. The depth is there, but I think the bezels would be just a hair to big for the spot. And then where do I put the rear defogger button. Yours seems to be placed well for reading and not having to look into the ashtray area while doing the dirt boogie probably is a plus, eh? Regards and again, sharp car. Jay -

Carlisle-the hotel/camping Update**
gravelRX replied to moosens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Stayed in Motel 8's all over, they are usually clean. That's my plan, need a local to help figure out proximity to Carlisle fairgrounds. Or I could do it myself when I get the time. I would say we are getting into the timeframe in this idea where picking are soon to become slim. my vote is motel 8. I can do a little legwork about price and such, but it's going to have to be Fri. night. Regards, Jay -

The step from the pressure plate mounting surface and the clutch surface is different from the two flywheels. the EA82 flywheel and the XT6 flywheel have a difference of .012", the XT6 being the shallower of the two. .825" VS .813" Seems like the only detriment would be slightly, and I mean slightly, less clamping force and maybe premature slipping as it wears at the end of its life. Have you ever seen .012"? I miked my flywheel and with the machine work done I had a difference of .005". I'm going to use it. jay

Taking tomorrow off. had three bolts break off in the intake manifold. I have gotten this far and no broken bolts, so I was actually surprised when it happened. One was just a hold down bolt for the purge system but the others were for injectors. Drilled one out, then proceeded to break the EZ out off in the hole. Stripped all the stuff off the other intake manifold and back to work. Thank goodness for the parts car. I was going to use the other manifold as a template for putting the RX's manifold back together. Now I'm glad I took pictures. Turbo assembly in process. Regards, Jay Thanks for the info on the bird, BTW. "Soobie P**N" I don't get it. -

Pug wheels on an 87 wagon. Tires are 195/60. I would go with a 205/50. These are on ScotTMs' car. Jay

I was about worn out by the time I got to welding the battery platform into place. Sucks that the worst weld is right at the top. When I was done, I thought, the batteries going to cover it, it's late, good enough. Paint. Go home, sleep. Regards, Jay The previous owner took a cheat from the old Trans-Am racers and tried to lighten the subaru with acid.
