  1. thanks for the copies. The car actually runs like a top. Bumped the timing up tonight and got rid of the "secondary stumble" when you step down on it. The problem I'm having is with the dash wiring, Funky things. Found another tonight, might be a clue. the rear wiper control switch has correct output current to the motor in the back. The motor on the other hand, never gets the current. If I hit the switch you can hear the belt on the alt and the charge light goes out as long as the wiper switch is on. Hmm. thanks again for the diagrams. Regards, Jay
  2. Don't think it was you, I posted pictures of the hatch for sale in my own thread! Hey, I hijacked my own thread! Jay
  3. Since this post kinda turned into a FOR SALE for the hatch, see the classifieds for a more detailed description of the hatch with pictures of the ugly. Jay
  4. Paid 250.00 and it cost 45.00 to have it towed up the mountain to my house.(Allstate reimburses towing) This is the LOW BUCK mobile. I'm hoping to not spend but the bare minimum to get it up to snuff. So far I've put about 40.00 into it for wires and plugs and tune-up parts.( NGK, Refuse to scrimp there) Most of the big parts, tires and wheels, Weber, and Blaster coil, I robbed from the hatch that I was autocrossing and Rallycrossing in the past. The brakes, springs and shocks are from a turbo wagon I have for a parts car. I was pleasantly surprised that it cleaned up as nice as it did. Thought about stripping the trim, but I believe the front fenders use clips to hold the trim on, so there would be holes in the front fenders. Looking at keeping the center of gravity LOW right now. Don't do any off roading but lots of gravel, fire road and dirt road thrashing so a lift is not in the immediate future. They do look good lifted with 27's on them though. Maybe later on. Thanks for the comments, Jay BTW, If anyone is looking for a 85 Hatch with 196K, rear 20mm swaybar, disc brakes, XT seats, small deer dent on LF and a bit of rust, I've got one that needs a carb (Weber adapter still on it) to drive anywhere. 375.00
  5. 1987 FSM In this order: front left / rear right / front right / rear left. Front left and right rear are on the secondary MC chamber.(front) Front right and left rear are on the primary MC chamber.(rear) Don't forget to adjust the parking brake cable at the same time as you do the brake pads. Hope this helps. Regards, Jay
  6. This is how I bought the car. (ScotTMs head) A couple pictures after a few days of working on it. Engine after I've also done the exhaust with 2" from the heads to the catalytic converter and 2 1/4" out the back with a low flow muffler. 88 Turbo discs in the rear with 88 turbo rear springs and shocks. I have all of the trim pieces with exception of the passengers front door. (anyone?) Hoping this car will be a good replacement for the 85 Hatch. Going to mount a rear swaybar this weekend off of an 87 RX. Have the tubing for fabrication of the bumpers and the roof rack laying in the shop. Now if I could just find some time. Comments, good or bad, are welcome. Regards, Jay
  7. Yes, the car did run with the coil wires on backwards. Fuses and links are OK, Checked them with a meter. I believe this is going to be a gremlin hunt unless someone has experienced the same problems. John, Emailed you. More suggestions? Thanks, Jay Have replaced wires and plugs with NGK products since the picture was taken and built 2" exhaust from the heads to the oversized cat, then 2 1/2" out the back with a low flow muffler.
  8. Well, besides the charge light being on all the time, and the emergency brake indicator glowing dimly, the other weird thing is when I turn on the headlights, the brake fluid indicator comes on. The charge light. I have the correct alt putting out 14.5 tops, and the battery connections are clean on a new battery. I think this is a loose wire as it pulsates to the bumps in the road. the brake fluid indicator light on with the headlights. Would like to see a wiring diagram to see how the headlights and warning lights tie in together. I'm guessing a ground. The radio doesn't have constant power so it forgets all the presets when you turn it off. PITA. Need to know what wire in the engine harness goes to the choke tang on my Weber DGEV. I'm guessing the blue wire. Suggestions?, Jay
  9. I'll be the Roanoker coming up. Probably leaving fri AM so I'll be behind you. Haven't sorted out the route yet. Jay Good to see others chiming in.
  10. Just did the Weber swap and manifold strip to my recent addition, same thing happened when shutting the car down. Would backfire a bit through the manifold and pop all the vaccum caps off the intake. PITA. Backed the idle down and it hasn't done it since. Idles at about 900 rpm now. Still a bit to high, need to modify the cable bracket. What's yours idling at when it's warmed up? Regards, Jay
  11. Good looking car. It's a Legacy on this side of the earth. Are those 17" or 16" wheels on the black car? How did you lower it?Regards, Jay BTW, Not all of us agree with GW Bush.
  12. How did you roll the wagon on dry pavement? That's all I want to know. Oh yeah, there is a standard hatch, think it's a 84? here in Roanoke, Va. for sale for 600.00. I owned it for a week and sold it. Solid car. I'm getting out of the EA81's. Round headlights, rubber mats. Jay
  13. I also am interested in the bushings for a newer gen car. Specifically an 87 RX. I guess the line forms here. Curious about what a set would cost. Thanks, Jay Nice EA81 car BTW. Going to autocross it? What class? STS?
  14. In Va, I believe you can run without a windshield if you wear a helment with a face shield. No help with the gasket. Just thought I'd throw in a little OT. Good Luck, Jay
  15. Your car has an optical sensing distributor for crank angle signal. It also has an ignition coil power transistor located on the bracket for the coil. First guess would be the power transistor for the coil. Far second would be the distributor. Use the search function located at the top of the page for more info. Not trying to be rude or short, going to watch a movie. Jay
  16. Qman, Mine was a bit twichy in the big sweepers with the short wheelbase, trailbrake with commitment. In the tight twisties the hatch was a freakin blast. You could use the throttle to change directions. I had 195/60R15 BFG's mounted on pugs. If I had it to do over I would rob the brackets from the donor, much cleaner look I suspect. After I did a rallycross in Orange I heard a clunking from the rear and turns out I pulled the mounting flange that wraps the rubber mount out of the hole in the bracket. Watch for this. I think it has something to do with the narrower wheelbase twisting the bar a bit harder. Post some pictures when you get time. Regards, Jay
  17. All for the beer social. Scot doesn't drink so he can be my DD. Responsible adult, ain't I? Jay If anyone is up for a small drive, I can see if the hotel where I'm staying has a bar or banquet hall.
  18. Get an extra key made and duct tape it to a front strut. Seems like a lot of work, what your doing, but to each his own. Jay
  19. Light is on the side of the ECU. IIRC, If you have a hard code it will flash without the connectors connected. If not, with the key off, plug in the white(single plug harness), mines brown. Turn on the key, stare at little green light. There's more but I gotta go to bed. Jay
  20. From the turbo back with 2 1/2" pipe, high flow converter, the most quiet Flowmaster available, (40 series IIRC- deep mellow tone off throttle, nice & talkative on throttle) used all the hangers and got the pipe as tight to the underbody as he could without heat catching it on fire while driving. I need to go ahead and wrap the downpipe. Still mulling that one over. I've heard good and bad. 365.75 the muffler and high flow cat was alot of the price. Regards, Jay
  21. An oil filter wrench makes a good belt tensioner if you have a beam style torque wrench handy. Not the prettiest way, but it works. Jay
  22. Will an 87 turbo XT ECU work in my 87 RX? I can't see why not, they are both MPFI EA82T engines. Just wanting to get a consensus before I go get at lunch tomorrow. I will check the #'s on the ECU itself before getting it. They should be the same. Thanks, Jay
  23. I have never seen a two row subaru radiator in person. I just acquired an auto subaru four door, I just keep forgetting to look. Jay
  24. Double row for an automatic and single for a stick. 1987 FSM info. Jay
