Shadow just hit the nail on the head. Well said. Jay

That's what I'm thinking. Everyone is making a big deal out of the TCU/ECU wiring that goes with the auto transplant. Is it just the physical hassle of all the wiring? This question just may answer itself within the next month. Thanks, Jay

I reread my post. Sorry, I was vague. I am putting only the engine into a EA82 car and was curious as to the effect the TCU would have on the ECU while running without an automatic transmission.

I have a 91 Legacy 2.2 engine with the automatic. What is the specific wiring headache that goes along with retrofitting the auto into the EA82 cars? Someone stated it was another 10 hours of wiring headaches. Really? What signal(s) from the TCU has to be manipulated to make the TCU/ECU work correctly? Looking for specific answers. Thanks. Regards, Jay

attn: all 87 RX owners, past&present

Alltalk stated: This is how my RX is done. I have the factory front swaybar, XT6 struts/springs in front with the XT6 rear swaybar, rear turbowagon springs in the rear cut down for ride height. About 3"s lower, but level front to back. GR2s too. No understeer whatsoever. Under trailbraking, car rotates at will, and is very neutral. 205/50/15's. It will hang out the rear if you force it, but I've learned to keep it up in the RPM's so it has the rump roast to pull itself back straight when I want it too. I kinda miss the "stab and jab" throttle response of the webered EA81, but the turbo is cause to hone the left foot braking to keep the rpm's up when braking. Jay

Power Steering removal

I don't know about other years, but in 87 the PS rack has a faster ratio than the manual rack. I don't have my FSM here at work but Ican get you specifics if you like. My bro-in-law wants to disconnect his for the sake of a Weber install and he hasn't decided on the easy "removal method" or the harder "change the rack method". Jay -
I was a bit worried that the light bar would effect cooling when I put it on. I made the bar removable with a trailer harness in line so I could put it on and take it off without a lot of hassles. After running the car I found there was no change in the temperature of the engine.( I taped a temp gauge to the hood for a couple days) Styles, Post a picture of your three door runabout. My title in VA lists these cars as three door runabouts. Funky. Jay

How about these. Why do you want them? You might want to DUW this post now. Jay

What does an EA82 weigh?

Use three people. One to guide it out and the other two on each side of a 4x4 post with a chain tied into the factory lift points on the engine. Start with the 4x4 barely above the tops of the fenders. Jay -
Rear wheel binding after clutch replacement

Pushbutton 4WD? Sticky selonoid(sp) and he's just running in 4WD? When you push the button on top of the shifter do you hear any noises from under the center/front of the car? My SWAG would be a vacuum line being loose and the car in 4wd. Any new lights on the dash? Jay -
The innocuous RX (picture)

Surface rust is located on the window pillar on the other side. The 185/70 14's look just huge compared to the 205/50 15's that I replaced. Much narrower than the 50's needless to say. I put 39 lbs in the front tires and 34 lbs in the rear. Great rotation in the corners once the sidewalls stop flexing and sets up. Kinda scary actually. Changed the power curve and the speedometer reading too. -

EVEN MORE PEDESTRIAN ! The sacrifices made to run all season tires. These wheels may be a bit too much even for me. It's your grandmas RX. Jay -
Help! Ignition switch trouble

FWIW, I did the same thing once to a Ford truck. I fixed it by taking a flashlight and looking into the key hole. When I pulled the wrong key out I managed to turn the face of the lock without turning the tumblers with it. Figured out where the tumblers where in relation to the face, turned the face to line it all back up and managed to get the key in. Call me about the bumpers tonight. Jay -

Uhh..OK, I thought Bling meant shiny. Now with anti-bling. I've got a few more pictures of that get-together. I might have a picture of your car, let me know what you were driving. Jay -
I'm guessing around 7-8K for the repair to the car. If that's the case then it won't be totalled. Might bring up depreciated resale value during assessment from the adjuster. Looking at the damage again and thinking about what the truck looked like at the scene, I swear the front bumper of the truck went up the hood and broke the windshield. All the damage on the side of the Legacy was from the left front tire of the truck. The tire on the truck and all related assemblies were folded under the drivers footwell. It was good and ugly. Not that the Legacy looks unscathed. Like I said in the first post the only thing that truly matters is life and limb. Glad my three year old wasn't in the car, I probably wouldn't have been as cordial to the young man that hit the Legacy. Jay

Thanks for the sentiment. Hartford/Omni insurance is going to be taking care of the damage and the costs. I contacted them on the 23rd and was told that they only do rentals on a reimbursement basis. 30.00 maximum for a day. A nice guy at Enterprise Rental car gave me a 2005 Ford F150 4x4 Supercab for 27.27 a day(I need the 4wd for the driveway). They are usually 100.00 a day. He said Merry Christmas. Again, any SWAGS on repair cost? Jay

Wife was driving at the mall, fellow in a 05 Nissan pick-up turned left across oncoming traffic and hit the Legacy. She's OK.(That's all that matters to me) Totalled the pickup. Adjuster will look at the car on the 27th. I'd like to see the Legacy totalled out, but even with the suspension damage and frame tweek on the drivers side I think it can be fixed. Damn. The other driver got out of his car and apologized, said it was all his fault. Officer was there didn't write any tickets because it was private property. Said if he was going to write a ticket he would have written the other fellow for failure to yield. Gave me his card and said if we had any trouble with insurance to find out his days in court and subpoena him as a witness. Want to take guesses on the repair bill for this damage? Engine runs and car will move under its own power, at least in a straight line. No fluid leaks from under the car. Drivers side wheel/tire/suspension assembly is pushed backwards about a foot. I haven't gotten under it to take a good look yet. Oh well. C'est la Vie. Jay Don't ask about parts.

Different strokes for different folks. I wouldn't do what you did to the interior of your car and you don't like what Junkie and I did. These dashes are a dime a dozen in parts yards thoughout the country. Most are the same color. Our dashes are subtle, yours is, ah, not. As for the defrost switch, it's a sacrifice I was willing to make for functionality and greater visibility. Don't much care for the add-on look of the pillar pods. Has the vague smell of a starchy product from the East. Jay
