  1. It makes the wipers park higher on the windshield, IIRC. Jay
  2. Will look into the Centerforce Clutch kit. And the Ram website. Don't want to make it too radical, think longetivity with the cam choice. I'm reading white a bit about cam profiles lately. Jay
  3. Dennis, I had these pictures from the meet. Hope you don't mind me posting them Jay
  4. Well, going to do a compression check and coolant leak down test first to see if the engine is worth all that is coming. 145K on it now. Here in the next month I’m going to take the engine out of the RX to hunt down an oil leak on the passenger’s side head. While it’s out going to do a complete reseal with new gaskets. My list keeps growing as I think of seals to replace. Not going to pull the heads. So far this is what I can think of to replace. -oil pump and seals -water pump -timing belts -idler pulley (if needed) -tensioner (if needed) -valve cover gaskets -cam box seals - bolt seals for valve covers -front main seal -rear main seal -cam seals - thermostat -turbo coolant hoses with the neat shields Not going to pull the intake unless I have too, just did that, had to replace a power steering pump mount. See anything I missed? Waiting for Emily at CCR to email me the prices for most of these parts. Delta Cams has a regrind for the EA82T, Scott there recommends a 260 duration cam for autocross and rallycross. 130.00 plus shipping. You send him your cams he works them and sends them back all lumpy and shiny. Don’t know much about cams, but he was recommended by Emily at CCR. What do you guys think of the cam choice? Also going to replace the flywheel with a lightened one and find a good source for clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing and pilot bearing. CCR again. Going to detail the engine compartment a bit, make everything tidy. strut tower brace is almost done. Here’s the thing that’s stuck in my head. On the RX the alt. is mounted to the outside of the aircon, sitting in the backyard I have an 88 GL Turbo wagon. On this wagon the aircon and alt. are mounted in the opposite positions, with the alt to the inside. If I swap the mounts it will give me more room down the driver’s side of the engine. Now take that and strip the RX of all the engine related aircon parts, including the condenser in front of the radiator and all related plumbing. Probably going to stay away from under the dash, those parts can just stay. PITA So can you tell that I’m thinking of mounting the intercooler in the front? I don’t mind cutting the center from the bumper support for flow, and I’ve seen bumpers that have been cut out and screen put in place. I would also have to do away with the hood latch and assembly for clearance. Susquehanna motor sports has some really nice integrated hood pins for rally cars. The intercooler piping will be a bitch to sort out but right now I can see it happening. If I run out of time, it’s getting top mounted with a fan and a good shroud to prevent heat soak from the engine. Still toying with the idea of running DL quads and having the high beam holes for forced air induction on the passengers side and forcing air from the drivers’ side of the car to under the intercooler and sucking it out the hood with a fan. A nice enclosed box, of course. I do see some holes in my logic, but nothing I can’t work around. Opinions? Suggestions? Stuff I missed? Regards, Jay
  5. I think the best looking lifted Sube has to be EJ's cream colored hatch in his pic album. Just looks so.. right. Makes me want to lift the GL hatch now that I have a car for rally duty. BTW 12 posts back someone stated a lift would get the chicks , now that is funny. Jay
  6. I'd say power comes on about 50 feet from the 1/8 mile marker. Heh, Heh. Btw, I thought that was a complete swap from a Leg turbo. Silly me. Jay
  7. By looking at the chart, I see the rate on the XT rear springs is a bit softer than the RX. Notice any difference in the handling of the Rx with the XT springs in the back? I ask because a softer spring in the back will supposably cause a bit of understeer. Would love to get the rear of my RX down a bit with this swap, just trying to cure the tire eating understeer. I've got a set of GR2s waiting for install in the rear. Maybe they will compensate. My front tires thank you for your response. Jay Edit: spelling
  8. The five lug conversion lowers the front 1 1/2 to 2" yours would look about like this. Jay
  9. To the clock? Never seen a EA82 clock that didn't have something wrong with it. I know they're out there, I've just never seen one working correctly. Good for anyone who has a clock that works. Jay
  10. to the new board. Going to OA tomorrow? I can't make it, but if you do, throw some dirt for me. Regards, JAY
  11. 2.5" from the turbo back with 3 way catalytic converter, all the way out to the rear. Series 40 Flowmaster. Nice mellow, deep noise until you step on the loud pedal. Definate power gain from stock, yeah, definately, yeah, yeah, definately. 81 toothpicks. In my opinion, I think I'm getting more gain out of the bigger exhaust than the FM, it's just there for noise. Regards, Jay
  12. Don't know the brand, they sell them here in VA in the Advance stores. The one I bought have a teflon strip running the length of the rubber. So far, they work better than any that I have bought. None of that freakin chatter when it's misting, and so far, are holding up very well. About time to change them out I think, winter is coming up here in the mountains. It is 36 degrees this morning. Regards, Jay
  13. Conspiracy? I'd say the local service manager was trying to just pawn me off, but the SOA fellow, although he didn't drive the car, knew about the TSB and OKed the warranty work with no charge. Everything including the flywheel. I did see the parts that were replaced and the flywheel was discolored a bit, but the clutch looked good. SOA said the compounds that made up the clutch material were substandard. The 34.00 oil change was a shock though, I was thinking as I asked them to go ahead and do it, "How much could they charge? It's only an oil change. I should have asked in hindsight. BTW, Takeup is smooth, works really well, pedal is lower, but a significant improvement. Regards, Jay
  14. Bought a 2002 Legacy L two months ago with prior knowledge of the clutch judder TSB. Car has 22,000 m. talked with the service manager at First Team Subaru here in Roanoke, Va. about the TSB. He stated he didn't know there was one out for the car, make an appointment. Found out through sources at the dealership that the Regional service rep for SOA was going to be in town at that dealership on mon. Made the appt. for that mon. and basically bipassed the local service manager and talked to the SOA rep. He said he would drive the car. I left the car parked in a space with the wheels cranked all the way to the left. Came back four hours later and the work order for the car had "Repair clutch per TSB" with the SOA reps' sig on the top. The kicker is HE NEVER DROVE THE CAR. it was still parked the funky way that I initially parked it. Had the car repaired, no charge, the next week. Did pay 34.00 for a freakin oil change. Never do that again. Just thought I'd share a good story with a good outcome. Regards, Jay
  15. When your doing this job, it's a whole lot easier to break the axle nut loose with the car on the ground. Wheel won't spin. didn't see that tip in the posts. I've gotten very efficient at doing this job. I run my 86 GL with the height adjustment cranked half for snow tire clearance and the extra stress seems to do the CV's in earlier. Jay
  16. I suspect it's the 4WD as opposed to the 2WD. Can't verify. Mine was of the two wheel drive variety. Just drilled the crossmember out and went at it. Expect the struts too be shorter from the XT6. drops the car 1 1/2 to 2" in the front. This is from my experience. Outcomes may vary. Good Luck, Jay
  17. I swapped the reg struts from a XT6 to an Rx and it dropped the nose 2 1/2 inches. So from that I would venture to guess the opposite would apply to what your trying to do. ? ?Don't know about the rear. Jay
  18. thanks for the info, but looking for 1st hand experience from someone that has a compatable car to the one I own. Jay
  19. Having a big auction of 56 truck stuff on the 25th of Oct. in Eagle Rock, VA on the 25. You guys have fun. I'm going to miss the opportunity to thrash my hatch in the dirt. Regards, Jay
  20. My favorite. Doesn't look like it's been cobbled together. good job. Jay
  21. Before my wife and I got married, her Subaru needed a water pump. We both went to a shop where I was helping weld a rollcage into an IT Mazda. She said to explain to her what needed to be done to change the pump out and she would do it. I explained everything as far as taking it off, getting the mating surfaces clean, cleaning the bolts, and the order for reinstallation. I went to the back of the garage and promptly forgot she was in the doorway attempting the pump swap, as I was thoroughly wrapped up in getting the Mazda ready for the weekend. About an hour and a half later, I remembered she was there and I thought I would go over and find her stuck on reassembly or just flummoxed by something. When I walked up to her, grease on her face and sealant on her fingers, the only thing she said was could I check to make sure the belt was on tight enough. If we already wouldn't of had a date set for the wedding, I would have ask her to marry me all over again. I reinterate what Ken said, YOU GO GIRL! Self sufficient women kick rump roast and are sexier than any model I have ever seen. Regards and respect, Jay
  22. I'll Email you pictures of the engine bay of my 86 hatched stripped of everything with a Weber. Jay
  23. Going to sleep. Will post more later. Had fun. Fatigue toxins thick in blood, Jay
