bypass valve placement
I'm searching for clarification on BPV placement. Man, people have got to start putting keywords in relevent posts. I'm getting good stuff, but lots of babbling too. Curious about this too. Old threads to the top. I can mount my BPV where for maximum efficiency? Jay

front mount intercooler progress. I/C piping.(DUW)
Looking at BPV's for the car. Check these out. Found this one on a Saab at the junkyard. Has a 2 wire connector hooked to it. Wassat? This one I like. it's from a 88? Mazda MX6 turbo intercooler. I hunted for one because it's built onto a piece of 1 3/4" piping. Looks like I could just plumb it into my intercooler piping and be done. Have it vent back in front of the turbo in the rubber hosing from the MAF. (You know the place) The nicest and easiest place to put it would be before the TB in the break I have in the piping. Isn't it better to mount it as close to the turbo as possible though? Keep the charge in the I/C and piping closest to the TB so car will pick boost back up quicker? Jay

Something Very Bad Happened
No roll pin? Shouldn't have done that. Did you take the roll pin out? Take the axle loose from the transmission, line up the holes and beat a roll pin into the dished side of the hole in the axle cup. can't remember the name of that end. DOJ? Jay

gravelRX replied to Meeky Moose's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf the Legacy transmission is the same I've got a good AWD one still in the body of a 92. It's yours for a case of really good beer. I'll push it in the garage and put it on jackstands. The rest is up to you. Located in Roanoke. Jay

RX sway bar ??
Wow. 08-22-2003 I posted that I would get around to talking about spring rate and haven't done that yet. I did change out the springs on my car though. I can vouch for the RX front and the XT6 rear being a good balanced combo for swaybars. I have a much heavier spring in the rear too. You can force oversteer if you trailbrake deep enough into the corner, just have enough ummphh to get it to walk back around. Don't turn the wheel, jab the loud pedal. Jay

front mount intercooler progress. I/C piping.(DUW)
Thanks for the compliments everyone. No noticable lag. The I/C does a very good job cooling the charge. I only spent 288.00 on everything including the hoodpins. I am trying to keep this car as grassroots and inexpensive as possible. Although I will spend the money on factory gaskets and rebuild parts and things that I consider important, most everything else I'll try to fabricate. Within reason. My most recent motto is " What's the worst I can do, f*ck it up?" Next really big thing is paint. I might have to amend my motto a bit. Getting an unusual back pressure, hard off throttle thrumming in the turbo area. Almost sounds like antilag on a rally car. I think the pressure is not releasing all the way or enough and I'm getting pressurized air backing up against the impellers. Hmm. I think we just covered this in another thread. Thanks again for the props. Time to cut the hood. Jay

front mount intercooler progress. I/C piping.(DUW)
Drove it around today without a hood. Finished the piping and most of the plumbing with exception of the IAC into the plenum. (more welding) I'm thinking I can get my exhaust guy to bend a 90* and expand it to 2 3/8" on one end for the next plenum attempt and I'll do a small hard line for the AIC when I weld it all together. High heat gloss black engine enamel with high heat primer underneath. A bit of bondo to smooth it up. Turbo side is warm(hands on for 4-5 seconds) to the touch after 20 minutes of driving. Cool after the I/C. From the front with no hood or grill. Would like to get better clamps although these seem to be doing the job. Was going to weld a bead to make sure the hoses don't pop off but I will procrastinate that until it happens. I doubt I'll run more than 12 lbs.. Cleaned the holes up with tubing and adhesive. Runs well. Still running stock boost. Clearances are close, but no rattles. The piping doesn't touch anything except the silicone hoses. I've done a few hard launches and can see everything with the hood off. Engine doesn't seem to move enough to effect the piping clearances. Now the hood pins are mocking me. It's time. Jay

Need Help! Legacy ECU location
gravelRX replied to simbey1982's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBuried under the plastic behind the steering column to the left. IIRC. No, the easy one isn't it. That's the TCU for the automatic transmission. If yours does in fact, have an automatic tranny. Jay

front mount intercooler progress. I/C piping.(DUW)
Little more. Roughed in. Thinking about painting the piping black or blue. Hmm. Think the piping would get to hot to safely use some type of filler to smooth it a bit before paint? Still haven't found any usable Jeep hoodlatches. The hoodpins are mocking me. Jay

Pwn3d!
Racing slicks can cure all kinds of bad driving habits. Comparing times with a car on regular street tires and banging on the chest about it isn't quite the huge accomplishment as slicks to slicks. But, like you said, both cars had slicks. Bang away. Jay
