My '92 Loyale: Safariwagon
No it's not! You wouldn't be saying that about an FF or something. I understand not wanting to rust it up!! But.... being put away for the winter gives you good opportunity to do a 5speed swap Happy birthday

Let's see everyones OFF ROAD light set-up
I figure since at that camera angle the light is hitting the hood and bouncing to the camera. When you're in the car, the light is bouncing away from you. The reflection into your face would be next to nothing.

I see some light hitting the hood in that one. Doesn't that get annoying? That's the main reason I haven't been tempted to mount lights on the roof.

EA-82TT Engine Management Swap
You don't want a clutch that grabs TOO well, you want the clutch to break before the gears.

trouble with wheels!
I don't see a problem with bolting up an old hub with 2 studs knocked out and making marks with a transfer punch. I thought that's how everyone does it.

1500 miles in a GL
I like my ea81. I like that engine, but then, I have crap luck with EJ motors. I think I'll just go right to the EG33 for my legacy, it doesn't have a J in the name so it must be better

A properly rebuild ea82 will last quite a long time. The issue is, they're not worth rebuilding...

Front wheel bearing pictures.
So if I get the sealed for life ones, I don't need to screw around with getting grease everywhere, I just pop the bearings in and run with it? That would be cool. Is it easier to remove the knuckle, or remove the axle... I guess that depends on if my ball joint wants to come out. I should find out the OD of the bearing so I can make something to drive it back in before I take it apart, I have access to grinding, oxy/ace, etc, etc. So I can surely make something just smaller than the OD no problem. Also, wicked interesting on the taper bearings, I prefer that kind of bearing anyway. Some time when I have more time I'll definitely screw around with that, I'll put that in my list of "things to make my car better".

Brand New Horn Not Working
It's a lot of work, but pays nicely. I'm currently in head deep in this huge project that needs to be done in a week.... yikes. doncha love 12+ hour days?...

Brand New Horn Not Working
Dealers don't usually do too much in the way of wiring anyway. If something goes wrong they just replace the whole wiring harness. That may as well be mechanical, take out the old one, plug in a new one. The people who work at dealers can get certified in engine, transmission, etc. They should have an electrical one too. I used to prefer electrical issues to mechanical ones, but now I'd rather have a mechanical issue. I can hear it, feel it, see it, etc. Electrical can be a little confusing to people sometimes. I do marine electronics though, all custom there, so electrical stuff doesn't bother me.

I didn't realize legacy and GL starters were the same... they look kinda the same, but I thought I read somewhere they were different.

rough startup
This is not a fun situation to be in.... Unreliable DDs suck. You'll find yourself in situations like figuring out how to replace axles in a parking lot 600 miles from home, or using teh deck of a house with strict no working on cars rules to pull the engine...

So pictures of my garage.... There is usually a swinging bench thing hanging here...
-
rough startup
You shouldn't hold it at that high RPM, 2000 or so would work. Sounds like the IACV to me, especially since it'll run when warm. After it's warmed up, push the gas pedal all the way to the floor. If it's an IACV problem the engine should just plain die like you shut off the key.

Put a new clutch in the GL today. I had to remove the swinging park bench and park my car under it's mount points to hoist the motor out. That was the easiest damn clutch job ever. If anyone says a GL is hard the change the clutch on... Go work on a transverse V6 chevy :-p

Contacts are only $7, taking it apart and cleaning only costs grease. A few bucks. Easier to do now than taking it out later...

I missed the melting part, ya. sounds like you have yourself a parts starter at this point.. Put new contacts and a good cleaning into a jy one, you should be fine. It's actually really easy to take apart the whole starter and clean it out. Just make sure you get a subaru one at the junk yard, not some aftermarket crap.
