  1. Happens to everyone. Don't worry. If only all car troubles were this easy to solve.
  2. My car is still not running. I've gotten sidetracked by the VW diesel to WVO project. Would you mind if I showed up with the honda and pictures of my car? It's kinda lame, but I'm just running low on time. Oh yeah, and brain wanted me to throw a starter in his jeep, so that's more things to do.
  3. AAIEE! No skidplate! it hurts just thinkning about it. It must be fun driving that all stripped down.
  4. We've all done a bit of it now and then, but how many of us have video's? Here's one I ran across on google, it's not me: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7510569826612740943 Anyone else have a vid to share?
  5. Model, year and engine size is usefull. Parking lights are a switch on the top of the steering column, by the gauge cluster. Ther's a learning curve.
  6. I'm not feeling the love for Bucky the loyale anymore. Hard times for a car when the love is lost. Is the impreza 2wd or Awd?
  7. Which means your PCV valve is clogged and it might have something to do with it running bad. Quit throwing seafoam at it and fix some of the clogged parts.
  8. Making payments and wheeling it at the same time, that takes some dareing. Glad you were out having a good time. People who say east coast wheeling sucks: I know trails that will stop skidders with chains. I'd like to see you get anything through those.
  9. I think it has to do with where you live. I would go for the inner control arm bolt in a flash. The pinchbolts for the struts were an absolute PITA to remove when I put the lift in. Speaking of which, I had forgotton to get new ones, and those twisted 1/4 turn when I took them off... Probably overstressed and not safe.
  10. contacts in the switch. I need to get around to doing it in my loyale. I have to pull on one of my windows at the same time that I try to roll it up to make it go.
  11. If you pour gas down the throat, will it run on its own for a bit?
  12. I used one out of a carbed car, and it was missing the nuetral position swich. If you can find one from a FI car, it should have it and will be a direct swap in. You will love the low range. How many miles on the clutch that's in the car? you might want to replace it while your in there.
  13. While working on stripping my EJ harness down, the temptation to chop all the wires 6 inches from the ECU and doing it from scratch was almoast overpowering. It can be soo frustrating tracing out each of the wires.
  14. My inclination is always to undo the strut tops and the crossmembers and drop the engine/tranny/ steering and suspension as a unit. drop it out onto some tires, use a backhoe to lift the body off, and ditch the body. Then taking everyting else apart is easy and open.
  15. You might want to send a small fire extinguisher down to have in the car. With things getting wild and wooly with the electrics, it's best to be able to slow things down a bit with some fire retardent. I've put out cars with sand before, but it takes a lot of shoveling.
  16. I have the type that attaches to both the tow loops in the rear. The hitch toungue has a couple of U bolts that were supposed to go into the bumper, but my bumper wasn't strong enough. I shook at least 5lbs of rust out of it. I'll end up making a spot on my replacement bumper to hook it too, so it should be plenty strong. The nice part about hooking into the tow loops is it helps avoid the V shaped bumper if you get too ambitious about towing.
  17. I sank my car in a pond, and it STILL hasn't dried out. Especially the rear footwells. I'm going to just tear the carpet out and call it done. I can't hear anything over the tires anyway, so what good is sound deadening? Just throw down floor mats over the carpet. My cars always seem to wear a hole in the carpet from the drivers heel. So I find another floor mat and toss it in.
  18. I asked about the wheels because my wagon has wheels with 3.5" of backspacing, so they stick out from the side of the car. When they do the whole loosing traction thing, the wheel pulls HARD. It's because of the leverage that the wheel has on the steering system being offset.
  19. These cars look great with 2 tone with black on the bottom. My light blue wagon has the bottom black just like yours (I was covering up a bunch of rust repair that I had done), and it makes the car look much nicer. There's something satisfying about using spray paint to make a big difference in the look of the car for cheap.
  20. The car will not hook up well in RWD. It will be fun as anything for getting sideways and doing burnouts, but you won't want to be drifting everywhere. The full time 4wd boxes with the lockable center diff are not the best for RWD. I have heard of a couple blowing their center diffs while locked and then your not going anywhere. Get either a pushbutton or a dual range box. You only have to remove one front axel. Make sure the outer stub shaft goes back in, it's what supports the bearings. On the torque steer issue, what kind of wheels are you running?
  21. Auto or manual tranny? Sometimes the auto tranny flexplates will crack, and a knocking sound will be heard. People buy the replacement engine, take the old one out, and then notice the flexplate is cracked.
  22. My dad's ford tractor has a manual tranny with a reversable fluid coupling. 4spd tranny, no synchros unfortuanately, but the tractor goes forward or backward at the flick of a lever. It would be cool to have a tranny like that for offroad. Best of both worlds.
  23. You could use a taper with the hole drilled off center through the middle, then a regular nut on to push the taper in.
  24. Divorced T-case, 12" lift and a rear diff flipped for the front. Good luck putting 5:1 in the tranny case.
  25. You don't understand how slow I work. I sank the car back in november and it still has the same engine in it that I trashed. The fully rebuilt EJ22 is still on the engine stand, and the wiring harness is in a box in my room. I may break down and throw another EA into it just to boot around, but then I have to go back on insurance again, which without a job is a bit expensive. I will do my best to get it going in time.
