  1. I have 3-door fenders on my wagon, so they should go both ways without a problem. I bet the wing that sticks out that the front of the fender bolts to is bent back a bit.
  2. As for the noise starting out quiet, then opening up, it might be your maniflold gaskets. I burned both of mine out on a highway run when I was "pushing" the car a bit. (WOT for an hour straight) Replacing the gaskets and retighting the studs might be all it takes.
  3. Impact gun is easiest. whacking the breaker bar with a hammer to shock the bolt might work too. make sure you're trying to loosen it, not accedentially tightening.
  4. The vacuum solenoids are really common on lots of Fuel Injected vehicles. Just look around in the junkyard for something simaler, then cut the wires on it so you can spilce your connector on. I used a solenoid off of a cadillac coupe deville, classy if I say so myself.
  5. 6'4" 250lbs, not so fat, just big. I hadn't even thought about the brakes being a good indicator. I'll take a look tonight and see. as for jacking it up anywhere, I can't believe I was stupid enough to drag it the mile and a half to my house. there is seriously nothing holding the back of the car together, and I set my standards low. If I sneezed near the car, it might collapse. Its a spfi with an auto, so that's two marks against it being a LSD.
  6. were they an option for the touring wagons? There's undercoating on the diff and I can't fit under the car to peel the sticker cover off. I also can't jack up the rear of the car with out the car folding. If it wasn't an option, I wont bother running it up on ramps.
  7. There is a differential in there with spider gears. It has a viscous limited slip device attached to it.
  8. I usually use a sheetmetal hammer when their not looking on the frame, or just my fingers for some good poking action on a unibody. It had a bit starting behind the rear wheel wells, but other than the rocker panel dents, was not rusty. 2k still seems a bit steep for a car that old.
  9. Did it still run? I ask because my EA82 that hydro'd at 4k rpm still runs, but makes threatening noises.
  10. Spotted a early 90's sedan with a hood scoop, went to investigate, turbo, 5spd, only a few dent's not bad rust. Sunroof. Driver came out while I was looking, said it was his brothers (who used to live down the street from me), and he was borrowing it. It had some Ghey rims and low-pro tires on it, said his brother had mentioned $2k without the wheels. With some talking down, I might be mighty tempted.
  11. I know a kid who had a golf with the Vr6 in it. It hauled... right into a tree. More power than the brains could handle I think. with 4 people in it, he spun it 420 and stuffed it backwards into the trees at 120mph. Luckily, the engine survived up front, so he's swapping it into another golf. They are wicked fast with them in it, and the VR6 is a unique engine anyways, so that makes it cool to.
  12. I'd find a low milage ej22 and throw that in. Might as well put in more power while your maintaning it.
  13. I did the same when stripping my old GL. lots of jacking and blocking, but it works in the end. dragged the suspension and engine/trany out with a nissan P/U, and then dragged the body away. The body's are wicked light without anything in them.
  14. I don't know where the heck I'm going, so it would be nice to convoy. I'll be in the honda, the wagon will not be running, ill bring lots of pics and video. Do you have a dvd player mary?
  15. Every engine mentioned, 2.2, 2.5, 3.0, 3.3 has the same bellhousing pattern. They all will bolt to a 5spd legacy or impreza tranny. No adapter needed. I belive that 3.3 pistons are interchangable with 2.2's. This would tend to support 2.2 with 2 extra cyl's slapped on. Which is not a bad thing. The 2.2 was the most rock solid engine ever built by subie (power wise, EA81 peeps keep you shirts on) So building off of that would be good right? The 2.5 was an all new design, and it blew lots of headgaskets.
  16. The smell of diff lube burning off the cat has become a familiar one to me. My dad's tranny is leaking too, and it drips right onto the cat heat shield. Stinky, but I'm not going to bother fixing it untill I do the clutch.
  17. Just look under the hood on a volvo and compare to a subaru. 2" between engine and Rad on subie 12" between rad and volvo engine. Deffiniately weld the diff.
  18. The bumper mounting locations don't look much stronger than the tow loops. I've found the tow loops are pretty strong. I pulled a tacoma buried up to the bumpers in mud out by getting a 6' run on a chain hooked to the tow loops. Took a buncha' whacks, but the truck came out and the tow loop stayed in. I've got a MM9000 on the front of my wagon. It needs a bit more work, it's a heavily used winch and the motor is kinda bound up. I had to glue the permanant magnets back into the motor, they had broken loose and stuck to the armature. There's a lot of cable on it, and I have a treesaver strap and a shackle to hook to. It's strong enough to pull my car up a nearly verticle slope without trouble.
  19. It's part of the factory lift kit that was used to make foresters have a higher stance than impreza's. If you remove the spacers, it will give you increased ground clearance in the front, but give you more positive camber and decreased halfshaft life.
  20. That works for the inside DOJ, but the outside CVJ has to be "dissasembled" with a hammer. It's easy enough to shatter out the cage with a hammer, just be sure that you don't dent in the axel stub that goes into the hub.
  21. How much does the shifter buck when the car is doing this. If the shifter is flopping around, then I'd deffiniatly look into tranny and engine mounts.
  22. WOOT! my 1000th post. Only took 2 years! Didn't know where else to put it.
  23. Those belts always piss me off. I don't have the problem with choking (I'm 6'4"), but the movable bit often smaks me upside the head when I'm getting out in a hurry. They get me an insurance discount, so they unfortuanately have to stay.
  24. It doesn't smack into your radio when your in the odd gears? Deffiniately cool though.
  25. Sounds like you need to step back and chill for a bit. Last time I didn't do that, I kicked a door in. Have you checked all the wiring and connections from the ECU to the injector?
