I have a shix list of people who I never bring to the J/y because of that style. Even breaking windshilds, hey it's going through the crusher anyway. I just get pissed off because it is showing disrespect to anyone who might want parts after you, and the J/Y owner because you just trashed a bunch of marketable parts

I'm using the clutch for a EJ22 to EA82 tranny combo. The flywheel and pressure plate are EA, but the power will be EJ+ a supercharger. The car will be (and has been) offroaded hard. You see where the problem is. EJ clutch disks fit in the EA flywheels. The only weak point is the pressure plate if I find a good disk. I haven't heard of aftermarket PP's. I was wondering if a clutch shop could swap on a stronger bellevile spring plate? It seemed unlikely, so the next best is a clutch disk that will put up with slip.

I've seen custom oil pans for ej22's on volkswagen conversions. the oil pan reduces the clearance by like 3", so they make ones that are shorter and wider to fit. It was like a + shape on the bottom.

You deffiniately have a problem. My SPFI wagon with 30" mud tires pulled off 97mph. Thats no turbo and really sucky tires for speed. I would hope a RX would do better.

Welcome back. have you condidered water injection? any luck with the head studs?

How good is the kennedy engeneering wiring packet? I've been using the scanned '92 FSM to try and get the wiring reduced, and I'm at the point where cutting it all apart and wiring it myself seems like a good option. It's gotten so confusing and tangled it's not even funny.

Where else to look for Subies for sale?
WoodsWagon replied to Jack in Norfolk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Back yards, front yards, impound lots. Any can be a source for cheap cars. Just get it the F'outa here deals. Biggest problem can be the tite, though *If you have a rusted out subie and it's title, the vin plates are easy to swap.* But you probably knew that anyway. -
alright foks i have a problem
WoodsWagon replied to Subaru in the Rainfroest's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Try advancing the timing a bit. My loyale was always sluggish at lower RPM's, and when I advanced the timing up a few extra degrees, it was a lot better. -
water injection system
WoodsWagon replied to okanagansubman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Pump or vacuum operated system? water injection is a very good thing. -
Dual vs single port exhaust on the heads too. 400 bucks for an engine missing a head is a rape. I've picked up whole running legacys for 75 bucks, beaten the tar out of them, and stipped them for parts. Look for legacy's, the older ones, sitting in yards and collecting leaves. Offer the owner removal and 50bucks, and you will get a car that has all the engine bits, usually in good shape.

Torque Converter Question
WoodsWagon replied to Alex GL-10's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, the pilot bearing. It presses into the 1" hole in the flywheel and centers the tranny shaft. It should come with a decent clutch kit. -
getting home with no fuel pump
WoodsWagon replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My beater F-150 has a 2.5 gal tank strapped under the hood. It has a mechanical fuel pump, which sucks from the brass nipple JB welded into the tank. Couple of pieces of rope to hold it from getting caught in the fan, a milk jug cap to substitute for the filler spout on the can, and away she goes. For about 3/4 of an hour, that 300 I6 sucks gas fast. -
I gaurantee that your husband's views will change when he actually goes to change the belts. He is expecting the engine to be jammed in the wrong way (transverse) like most jap cars and a real PITA to work on. The soob ones are in the right way, like a pickup trucks. Really easy to change the belts.

I have one. 89 4wd auto. Red. I'm reluctant to drive it on my property due to the rust. It also has a blown headgasket. Runs OK though. And drives. Does not stop. I don't see how a sunroof would work, it has no where to slide to in the touring wagon roof.
-
3.7 final ratio vs 3.9 in non turbo. The low range of the full time 4wd tranny is not as low as the regular d/r AWD has a limited slip center diff, the full time has an electronic locking center diff. The FT4wd may have a limited slip rear diff. Check it's tag.

Put some headlight protector loops on so that you can crush bushes with impunity. -
what is "dimulator" in auto 3 loyale gear?
WoodsWagon replied to moshem74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It could be the governor. I've heard that the gear in it ends up apple core shaped and it causes misshifting. -

WoodsWagon replied to moshem74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes, pics would help... WTF is a "Dimulator"? What is the problem with the transmission? Mabe we can trace back to get our deffinition for the part through following your diagnostic path? -
I winced when I read that.. Yeah, it's amazing how hard the wheel can kick when you catch a wheel. I've had it happen a couple times in my wagon, so I know now to keep the thumbs out in the woods. The worst vehicle I've driven for wheel kick was a spring over axel lifted suzuki samuri that me and a friend set up. We didn't spend much time on allignment angles, and that thing was dangerous how hard it would kick.

1991 loyale 5sp stuck in 4wd! HELP!
WoodsWagon replied to stevo151617's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It's nice from a convienience point of view, but it's complication is one of the reasons that people swich transmissions to the dual range 4wd one. It has a nice, simple, solid lever that sellects 2wd, 4wd, or 4wd low. The swap is easy, all bolt in. And it makes a huge difference in the offroad capability of the car. -
I dislike camping, I prefer sleeping in my car. Many people think it's strange, for a 6'4" guy to prefer a car seat to a flat tent floor, but I have a long history with camping and it is a waste of time in my opinion. So all I need is a place to park my car where the police won't arrest me for being a vagrant. Food wise, Mary, if you need grocery shopping done on the way down, I'd be willing to throw like $40 bucks of goods in. Make a list.
