  1. Thats the thing...when the turbo kicks that car REALLY scoots. I haven't confirmed it yet, but it sure feels quicker then my friends 05 STI...
  2. TEX: I actually talked to you about the car before...i dont know if you remember, but a week or two ago you came into Jimmy Johns, I was the cashier? I will get ahold of you once i get it...that leggy obx i had got involved in an unfortunate fender bender (not my fault), but the insurance company payed a pretty large amount to me since it was totalled, so im comfortable buying it, and ill still have a bit left over if there are any problems that need immediate attention. I will absolutely be in contact with you though once its mine (which should happen within the next week). And dont worry, I'm not like everyone else my age, I do know how to keep my foot off the gas, and I wont be sticking a giant wing on the back either. Its way to beautiful to ruin!
  3. So, I'm finally biting the bullet and buying that car. Paying more then I should, but hey, its worth it. Only one thing really worries me...the engine will not stay running without constant application of the throttle for at least a good few minutes after startup, regardless of engine temperature or length of time since it was last run. Is this just an idle timing issue, or something more serious?
  4. Hey, I recently bought some window glass from Moosens(who is an excellent person to do business with!) and could not figure out how to get the door apart to get it in. On other car doors that I've disassembled there is usually a screw on the window crank so you can remove the crank and get the door panel off. I cant see where this window crank has any of that, and i dont want to break anything by trying to pry it off...help?
  5. Smart Subaru is a little pricey, but they do very high quality work. They have 2 shops in south snohomish county, one in Muckeltio and one in Edmonds/Shoreline. I have always been very satisfied when I've had to take a soob there.
  6. do either of you have pictures??
  7. hmm...didnt really get any good pictures of it but here is my 81 brat lowered in the front only...actually looked pretty good, and the 195 series tires tucked perfectly in the fenders on the 14 inch pugs. put it back up to stock height last month because the cattle pusher bumper scraped on EVERYTHING. :-\
  8. Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever tried to see if a D/R tranny would fit in a justy? seems like that would add alot of potential to this car.
  9. You know you can still order that from the dealer right? i picked up a new bottle from carter subaru about a year ago.
  10. Hey WASHroad, do you live in the edmonds-lynnwood area? saw your car drive thru a few months back.
  11. i know im a little late to the party since you sold the car, but what about a subaru boxer diesel? you could probably get one shipped from a british wrecking yard, and it would be VERY unique
  12. tried starting it the next day and it worked just fine..its a quirky little car.
  13. Hi, last night when i was trying to start my 1981 Brat, it would not stay running, it would start up and idle for about 30 seconds and then die, it would do this even if i was giving it gas. also, both the warning lights for the battery and brakes were on the whole time, and usually never stay on for more then 5 seconds after i start the car. I tried starting it 4 times then gave up, does anyone have any idea what might be wrong?
  14. okay, thank you for that. where did you get that book? sounds alot more useful then my chiltons.
  15. When i was changing the drivers-front axle on my 81 brat, i forgot to compress the brake piston before taking the caliper and rotor off, and now im wondering how i can get it to compress. The only way I knew how to do it before was by taking a screwdriver and wedging it between the inner pad and rotor but obviously that will not work now...im sure this is an easy solution, but i have a total lack of experience, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  16. if you want the topper 30 bucks or ill trade it for a brat roll bar if you have one. if you want, i can email you pictures of it.

  17. hey, saw that you said you have a high top canopy for a gen-1 brat...what kind of price would you be asking for it?

  18. Tore out the nasty old carpet in the brat and slapped down some herculine, it looks alot nicer and I dont need to worry rust forming under the carpet anymore.
  19. You could get an ea81 (1800 cc version of the ea71). I assume it bolts up to your existing tranny but I don't know that for a fact...maybe you should swap in a D/R tranny while your at it?
  20. and where is the master switch? im a n00b when it comes to wiring.
  21. bump for rain in the forecast and my windows still not rolling up :-\
  22. yep. axels look good, no dents, gashes or rust on the underside. its got a super sweet dual exhaust setup tho. The only thing im worried about right now is that little ticking sound.
