  1. oh no!! I was gonna use one....i could not decide on how I was gonna plumb it...so i never got one...Lemme look on ebay and see what I came up with... Obviously use that stright in/out as the outlet from the IC, to go int the throttle body, and sicne I have not seen the bottom, you'd have to plumb to turob to go out, bend, to the ic inlet, bend to mate to it. Sometihng like that..and then hood scoop to feed it air for the IC effect! something like that........
  2. Once you take the plenum off, the size holes are self explanitory. Obviously, you can see what is the turob and what is the throttle body. The small hose comming from the t-stat housing is idle control, mostly for cold start. Just plumb that in at either before the IC, or after, just make sure you plumb it in. It would help to know what kind of IC you are using, that way we can better help you plumb it up.
  3. I wonder how many times we have to say that the EA82T runs rich. No, no wideband or anything fancy like that. on the dyno it spit out unburned fuel furing its detonation tantrum the first run...on race fuel. once i backed the timing back down to stock, it didnt do that. Now that ive got pump 93 back in it, it detonates like hell, RANDOMLY. With race fuel on stock timing, its PERFECT to 6k. On pump gas and stock timing...crap past 5200. i worked on some connection and grounding issues..and its better to 5k now. The car is getting plenty of fuel...i had fuel problems befroe and i know what this engine does when it leans out due to lack of fuel Backing off the timing will do nothing but rob power from the already narrow powerband. I just wont take it past 5k until i figure something out. The RANDOMness needs to be solved.
  4. no, that woudl either be the PCV valve, or the turbo seals are leaking in the compressor housing. Mine is getting oil all over the place past the turbo...I have not bothered to investigate....yet.
  5. im running a 180 thermostat as compared to the stock 192, if that is what you mean. I have a 10mm sockect on a long extension and speed handle to retard/advance the timing. Otherwise, the STOCK ECU along with the stock vac advance and stock knock sensor is supposed to be able to play with it by about 5 deg.
  6. I certinly WISH i had an EGT or AFR guage....I am already running a colder plug. 6 is what NGK calls for stock...and I put an 8 in it. NGK goes, high number cold, low number hot. Everyone else is bass ackwards. Will do on the terminal cleaning, i have planned to do that. Cold, dark and rainly out right now tho...that better change by the morning so I can get this done before the autocross sunday...
  7. ok, my 9.5:1 turbo engine. At high revs, 4500+, i get detonation past that, all the way to where ever I shift. Also, at about 10 inches of mercury (vac), i get detonation. heres the thing...sometimes I do, and sometimes I dont. Does not depend on cold/hot/warm engine conditions, air intake temp, or anything. Its just random. For example, 1st gear WOT to 6k, it will do it, 2nd gear, no...3rd, yes and then no, 4th, yes, 5th, yes...no...yes no...no...yes yes...no yes. Then, either yes until i let off, or no. Its just RANDOM. I was wondering, maybe the disty is a bit stuck on no being able to retard at times? mechanical failure in that mechanism? The knock sensor appears to be doing the job, it works form time to time...when the disty actually retards. Check for loose/corroded connections? I am going to do that. But what about the disty??????? Timing light and tap on knock sensor?? Or just slap a different dist in? Ideas/suggestions?
  8. I aggree on keeping this place from being a NASIOC look alike...BUT... IF we have enough support, which we seem to have..the EA82T WILL be technologically advanced enough...and I have not seen a reliablity issue that warrents a dissmisal of it having it's own forum within The Older Generation of SUBARUs. I kinda dont want to start another board, jsut for the turbo. Little traffic, even if there is a link. Id love to have it within the USMB, afterall, its got high traffic. We turbo guys are looking for people with ideas, and high traffic means more exposure, and more ppl with ideas to drop in a suggest, and other improve on ideas made and w get a finnished product for the engine...or something to that effect. Skip: can you email me the specifics about what you were saying about Donald and his board? Once again, i stand behind the creation of a sub-forum under the old gen sube heading, and its heading woudl be soemthing along the lines of: EA82T (Turbocharged 1.8 L OHC, 85-91) Engine Performance Disscussion Infact, what was the last year of the EA82T? 92? or was it 91?
  9. I hope they do. that way we can get the Ultimate EA82T database going. I think this engine has some serious potential. We just need to put our heads together and unlock it.
  10. Now listen here...i would have started an HO EA82 forum by now if I had started with that! MPFI conversion kits, spyder conversion kits...Delta cam kits and the such. ROFL
  11. Yeah, this new forum, listend under the SUBARUS section, like...say under the newer gen forum, would be for the EA82 Turbo only. For discussions on Performance, maintinance, troulbleshooting etc....notihng like wheel bearings, A/C issues, headlight bulbs or what not.... Pistons, oil pressure, temps and such would be what its all about. HP! TQ! MODS! BOOST! Fuel, air, ECUs!
  12. Hey mods and everyone...i was thinking, since we have a following of the EA82T so much lately..and its seemign to grow more and more, maybe we could have a separate forum for the EA82T...or maybe this: Factory turbo engine: EA82T Or some otehr name thats better tha what I can come up with... A forum to deal mosly/only with the EA82T, performance issues, problems with it, ideas, projects...things of the sort. I think these threads get lost easily in here, since the general forum has so much other traffic. What do you guys/gals think?
  13. I tell you what, depending on what volume you sell at...I can get you NGK plugs, wire sets for the turbos (maybe on the wires) and some other small parts....seals and such too....at really really damned close price to cost.
  14. Ok, here goes my answers.... 1. That I dont know, mine does it sometimes. 2. This is normal. on 85/86 subarus, the park lights are on the headlight switch, push down and rotate counterclock wise. Miles is right with that he said, but that only applies for 87+ subaurs. 3. You must have your lights on all the time, in this case, the headlight switch again. The first knob twists, that adjusts the brightness of the dash and such. 4. That ticking is the hydraulic valve lash adjusters. Replacing oil seals, or regualarly changing you oil will cure the noise. 5. Lockers, no. LSD yes. Options on any 4wd subaru. Standard on RX and the 1989 GL-10 turbo Full Time 4WD wagons (sedans too?) 6. T-stat housing. There is a sender there. Simply plug hook the connector there. My VOD says 200 deg F when in actuality the car is at 180. 7. DO NOT DO THAT. Sorry Miles, you are wrong here. I have oil cooler adapters avalible. See this thread: http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8705&highlight=oil+cooler+adapter 8. Reliable, yes. As long as you use proper cooling and oiling items. See this thread: http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10738&highlight=performance+thread Also, i posted about 141 est crank HP with my setup. 99.6 or so at the wheels. A stock RX running 10 psi posted 83 or so, 118 crank.
  15. tell you what miles, that gasket set ran me a pretty penny, and I WORK there and got the 10% over cost discount. And the headgaskets blew in 4 days. lol
  16. i want a header pipe for sure. How much? Our EA82 turbos are VF7. Legacy (us spec '92 or so) is VF11 The VF11 uses the same flange size as the WRX VF 22, 34, TD04 etc...for exhaust-intake (into the turbo) and exhaust-exhaust (out of the turbo).
  17. he's got an IC. I am working on getting one...and a larger turbo. And...I never said anything about the stock system not being able to handle the 15 psi....maybe, MAYBE if we are pushing 29 psi, like Bozz speed's EVO 6 is...THEN we MIGHT have to do something... Still, i think SUBARUtex's fuel rail mod would be a great thing to add, for security and tuning ability, and more so for simplicity's sake. Something that you all need to keep in mind is that I am running MUCH higher static compression than everyone else, so i am more prone to detonation as compared to a stock turbo engine. Its static compression is 7.7:1, as compared to mine...9.5:1 I am also at a lower state of tune due to restictions in time...money, and the fact I have no shop or anything to work with. Its cold outside too. BUt it sounds like I am complaining now.
  18. NAPA barely carries anything for our soobs...even less for the newer ones. Ive got a parts manual, I'll look thru it and get you a real subaur part number.
  19. Hey um...Skip....gee wiz. Hey dont forget that I have the 9.5:1 pistons installed. I never experenced any sort of ping on the RX, running 16 psi (boost creep) and those cams....on pump 93. I think its sometihng to do with the hot wire system vs the older style system...maybe. That and the pistons.
  20. Its $3.99 a gallon. I dont know if its road taxed or not...i really should not be... i really think 7.7 stock...or 8.0:1 JE alloy pistons or something close would be the way to go on pump gas. You just gotta do the cams, fuel rail, Spyder intake and XT6 throttle body, VF34, and definalty a proper crossover pipe, and the turbo back exhaust....dont forget aobut the intake...some pretty polished metal tubing and an intercooler of some large size. I think i would be happy with my setup if I had those Delta cams installed, and a WRX top mount. I am working on that second part right now.
  21. So....I was short on cash and decided to run 93 pump gas again. What a dissapointment. Past 4500 at WOT, no more power, just detonation. Top speed is about 94mph now...how depressing. Not that it matters on an autocross...*evil grin* The bottom end still pulls well, from 2200-4000....its odd, us import guys are supposed to have engines that only come alive AT or PAST 4 grand...gee, Ive got a V8 under the hood then. ROFL Ok...I need an intercooler. Time to experiment. To the market place!
  22. take a look at the air flow meters. the flapper is incredibly restrctive at high performance levels. Keep with the MAF. There are ways around the boost cut. MegaSquirt......and other methods. (i dont know of any more actually)
  23. Snowman: have not had the time to try it yet. Ive got the whole kit ready to go...NEW cooler core, lines, and everything. Its been sitting around for about a year now. Since I got the RX, I got another kit, and since it pooped out, i decided to sell these things...but I had more intrest than I had expected...so i jsut started getting more to see! lol I should be getting this thing installed before the weather gets warm....like, soon. XSNRG: Yep, Ive seen those too. Turbone: Fuel filter? Huh? Lemme look back....Oh, that thing. DONT USE IT! Its a plastic one, and it bloated out...I switched to a metal one, its still way cheaper. Like, $7~$8 I think...I did not burst, but it bloated out alot...
