  1. Im definatly in for one...as soon as I figure out what turbo I am going to use. I am needing a new turbo...and i think i will go with a TD04...
  2. Yes. Small things...other wise, its generally the same. The wiring for the engine changed for 87...so there are things that are different. Just what, i dont know.
  3. ok, i tihnk the source of the oil everywhere was the oil cooerl fittings. LOTS of oil smoke from the exhaust now, its geting WORSE. how many votes for the turbo seas are shot? with the oil cap off, and the breather pcv syatem on...aka, no engine vac on the crankcase, there is no positive pressure...
  4. asavage: great info! this engine was resealed about 14 months ago...i dont see why it would be leaking like this so soon...still, im gonna crawl up under the car and see whats going on this morning. I wonder if my oil cooler fittings are leaking...i DID install that recently....
  5. Hey techworkseng: can you make one of those crossover pipe to mate to a TD04? Plus raise the turbo 10mm? If you can, Id definatly buy one.
  6. ok, pcv system bypassed with hoses going to a breather filter...no change. Oil is everywhere up under the car?!?! No sign of it comming from the top of the engine, but its comming from somewhere below! ARG.
  7. our stock turbos start boosting at 2600, i think that the tdo4 would make our engines like the EJ205 in the WRXs...spooling at 3000. High end will still suffer due to the restrictive crossover pipe, and unless you use a really good turbo back for the td04. Also, stock cams will also make the high end suffer.
  8. Ok, the problem is WORSE now...over 1 qt over 100 miles now...even with lowering the speed on the I-state. So, Im gonna scrap the WHOLE stock pcv system...im gonna get two hoses, one from each cam cover, to a tee, and a breather filter there, and plug up the two holes left behind on the turbo intake pipe. If that doesnt fix it....its the turbo. If it aint that...well, i might as well do a compression test tomorrow, I found the gauge while rummaging today.
  9. Yes yes....me knows these things. Me too lazy to do such things....besides, I DO know how to weld and make these things. The thing is...I DONT ahve the $ to get a MIG welder. I am on a VERY tight budget now,as I am moving out into a place of my own. Hince the RX project is on hold...
  10. Mt understanding is that its 379 EACH...i will email again and make sure. I highly doubt that it will be 37 each.... I was told that this company may have made some in the past....that is why i inqured them. I imagine that a gain in the neighborhood of 10-20 hp and TQ would be gained from this peice....and possibly 30+ is complemented with a complete turbo-back (aka proper downpipe, midpipe and miffler combo). If only i had pipe and a welder...I would be making some.
  11. I emailed Techworks....this is what transpired.... Hi Will, Sorry it took this long to get back to you. We had not had an opportunity to test the system you saw until recently .....blown clutch . (Faster than a WRX now!)We also were not sure whether we were going to pursue this product or not. We will most likely sell about 10 of these systems if there is a group buy or something similar. Price will be about 379.00 $US. Thanks Tom Penner Tech Works Engineering Inc. Making Technology Affordable. http://www.techworkseng.com Sales@techworkseng.com -----Original Message----- From: Will Maham [mailto:wmaham1701@hotmail.com] Sent: January 20, 2004 10:21 PM To: techinfo@techworkseng.com Subject: EA82T, a question. Hello Tech Works, I ahve been told, that you guys have possibly made an ultra high performance crossover/up pipe, or header/up pipe for the EA82 turbo engine? It came on the Leone/RX, XT turbo cars from 1985 to 1993...is that true? I am currently searching for one....I am in serious need of information and pricing! Thanks! WJM So, do we have any interest? i know this price is...up there...even I dont have that to spare at this moment...but...theres the info.
  12. Did a search of oil consumption/pcv system issues...so I took the entire PCV system apart. The hoses at the cam covers were cracked really bad. So I replaced those with less cracked ones frmo the RX, and hoseclamped them. NO leak with that. The hoses to and from the PCV valve were fine, no cracks, not that hard either, sealed fine. PCV valve rattled and appears to work fine. Sprayed it with carb cleaner...we shall see how it performs next time I drive!
  13. Miles: I'll try that. Skip: Nope, plenty of power, no change in that. Idles smooth....ive read that article many many times. But, if I can find that guage, I'll check the compression. JWX: I think it possibly could be the PCV system....i hope it is. dont want it to be the turbo seals, or the piston like Skip says. GLCraigGT: Yeah, the oil cap is on tight.
  14. 5spd swap is not hard. Power mods are easy! Intake exhaust...then...Delta cams. The 677-260 grind should also suit the SPFI engine.
  15. Ok guys, on the car in the sig....the cam covers/valve covers, are covered in a film of Mobil 1 10w-30...and the PCV pipes are wet with oil at the bottom where they connect...the entire intake manifold has a film on it, and there is no sign of oil around the PCV valve. The turbo intake housing is covered in oil, as with the entire intake tract. There seems to be oil in the exhaust, as between shifts, puff of oil smoke after I get back on the gas. I am using up about 1qt every 100 miles now...and those conditions are approx 35 miles of HIGH SPEED interstate travel (avg speed 85-90 or better) and about 10 miles of regular roads and 2 miles of country road. It used to be it would use 1 qt every 750 miles or so...that was with some interstate and most of it was regualr roads, speeds averaging 55-65. My daily commute is about to go from 10 miles a day to 100 miles...so $5 more a day just for oil is not looking good, thats $30 more a week, plus about $50 in fuel. Dont need that. Anyone got a clue as to what the problem is? PCV system shot? Turbo seals gone? Something just plain wrong? Common experts - start thinking!!
  16. Ok, i looked above....didnt see any dates.... anyhow, sounds like a plan, if I know what the days are, and see fi I can fit it on in the sched...
  17. great! keep us up to date on how everything works out once installed...and also keep us up to date on the upgrades and work to get all that installed!
  18. Where are you located, what day, and how much EA82 generation parts do you have? A large selection? Small, med?
  19. The factory turbo for the EA82 is the VF7....unless other sources tell me differently, that is what it is supposidly. Not too terribly much difference with the VF11...just very slight enlargement of things, and different turbines, and the exh. housing is different. 5 bolt pattern...oh, the intake exh. housing is a little different too...bolt pattern again. Ive never hit fuel cut...even with it boost creeping to 16psi. That was on the RX, with no mods on the fuel system at all. The wagon never hit it when it boost crept cuz the switch is unplugged. I DID recently fix my exhaust leak on the crossover pipe, and install a factory turbo back system again...minus the muffler. I have to say that I like it like that, the low end is great, and mid range is about perfect. The high end sucks. Detonation. I think once i get the IC installed, cams....oh, and throw in some new t-belts, that problem will hopefully be solved. The number one thing to open up the high end on these engines is the crossover pipe, and turbo back exhaust. Then i all of us will run into the boost creep situation...in that case, more backpressure, aka muffler, will fix that...but high end will suffer...OR...either more travel on the wastegate, OR a larger turbo, such as the TD04...mind you the TD04 set for the stock 8 PSI...to start with.
  20. OK, i put 1000 miles, give or take aobut 50 on the RX with those Delat cams in, and re used old follower...there was no sign of any kind of abnormal wear...I WILL be re-installing these cams...into my daily driver, the 9.5:1 wagon. I guess we will find out when they fail. lol Oh, and I will use the followers that were in the RX what went with the cams.
  21. I am going to put those cams in my wagon next....plus a stock WRX TMIC...and I guess we will see what mine does with the 9.5:1 and stock turbo.
