  1. you will know its FT4WD, IF...you put the trans in gear, turn the input shaft, and all three outputs go...and IF you can stop the front two, and the rear still turns. I went thru this same thing. I have one of those XT FT4WD trans in my GL-10. Same gearing as the RX in Hi.
  2. OK! Heres what I did....lemme find the pics.... Yes, i used a trans oil cooler as well.
  3. NO! SUBARU's FT4WD is ALWAYS there. ALWAYS on, to all 4 tires. The difference with SUBARU FT4WD and AWD manaul transmissions is the center diff package...the AWD ones have a viscous coupling center, where as the FT4WD has an open diff with a locking mechanism controlled by the driver. Some Audi Quattro systems, most of Volvo and the rest have so called AWD systems, that indeed only engage the rear when needed, same with most everyone else's FT4WD. Audi DOES have its true Quattro AWD on alot of its cars.....but its an option on most. SUBARU has it as STANDARD equipment. As for the Autos....both are the same in operation and theory from the EA82 trans, to the newer EJ ones....its just got newer electronics, case, internals etc...othereise, operation/theroy like i said are the same.
  4. Yep, those numbers are accurate as well. We should have that in the USRM.
  5. naw, ive had one still idle and run on all 4 like that....just not smoothly....but it would idle on all 4.
  6. Ok, no i have the same Q with the deltas...on my DL...it almost seems like there is no power gain, even with a high flow cone filter as well. Just play and see what happens?
  7. I would call the SUBARU FT4WD 87-94 (EA82 trans) autos AND manuals AWD. But then again, ALL of SUBARUs FT4WD, and AWD trans, either EA82 or EJ, COULD be called Full Time 4WD....but are rightfully AWD, cuz its the SUBARU name, and they earned it. No one else has.
  8. My DL came with A/C....it was dead tho, so its gone. I used the old bracket...as the A/C was on the other side of the ALT...then alt was right beside the P/S. This was also the case on my RX. I think that is Dealer installed A/C.
  9. well, i wont be getting a gen 2 sube and working on a conversion! The 4wd conversion on my gen 3 was easy peasy.
  10. did you remove the SC? I make the mistake of not doing that on the donor car....took me 2 hrs...then i removed it and had it out in seconds. When i went to do it a second time...SC out and pedal box out in seconds.
  11. with 15 for an adapter, and 25 for a cone filter, you get a good intake. way better than a stock airbox. Ive done this mod on my DL. As for the airbox cutting...it was the first mod to my RX....yes, it makes a noticable difference on turbo cars. N/A cars...not as much gain as you think...not until you get a new EJ powered sube do you notice a difference with a cut airbox. Even then, gains are minimal. Nuff said. Oh, and stiking it thru the hood is good. Cooler air.
  12. for my 5spd conversion... you need to swap out the pedal assembly under the dash, remove the steering colum to do so...not to hard. get 5spd speedo cable, as they are longer than the 3AT clutch cable (duh) clutch, pres plate, flywheel....4wd trans takes the larger clutch disc, so pay attention to that, AND the flywheel step/recess when selecting a clutch set for the flywheel you will need to rewire the neutral safety switch, reverse light switch, and the dash indicator (that last one so you can use cruise control, and make the NSS switchable. CC wont turn if the car thinks its in neutral/park...even if its moving. I know this) 5spd trans crossmember (2wd, 4wd, FT4WD does not make a difference, unless you are getting to the XT6) various nuts and bolts....save everything from the donor car, wiring and all too. and....thats all i can think of right now. Ive done the 2wd 3at to 4wd 5spd conversion. I have a FT4WD trans, so i dont know how you would wire up the selctive puch button style 5spd 4wd... I imagine that you would use the same electrical and vac system as the 3at, but use the 5spd parts from the donor car...shifter, and wiring from it....i think ive got one of those shifters....
  13. Ive purchased some seals from NAPA, for things such as the transmission and engine....the markings and numbers are the same as the SUBARU units. Appear exactly the same as well. Things like Ford Chevies and Dodges....they all get this generic brand seals...all plain and cheapo looking. If its something special or specific, like the subaru stuff, or some select Honda/toyota etc engines or trans or diff seals, they will be the same part as what the dealer gets, just in a different box.
  14. the disty is 180 deg out. put the engine on TDC #1, and pull the cap.
  15. yeah....i wont be doing this anytime soon. just throwing it out there. This DL has no power at all. My turbo on 3 cyls is faster.
  16. Yep, thats it. Right on. Although i dont think that since they came out the prcedure has been sketchy....the first time i read it in the haynes manual, and looked at it on the engine, it made sense. Ive never had to read it again to figure out what to do. Its simple to remember time and time again.
