at your age that insurance must be steep. nice car!
  6. funny, how in the face of glaring obvious leads the police will do nothing. but if you do something about it.....say i dunno...justice, you go to jail. be careful whatever you do, we gotta protect the offenders yknow.
  7. well, i now have two maxima alts that dont fit :/ oh well...clist i guess. took the lift tabs off the rear and things are good now. suspension lift>body lift:clap: i achieved the same amount of lift i had w gl10 sedan struts/springs and 2" tabs with unblown 88gl struts and 88ish accord rear springs uncut.
  8. i know theres a write up, and i dont even own an gen2 right now, but please document what you do. you do a great job on your threads, keep it up!
  9. i agree with GD on this one too (shocker.) when i did my sole hg job i cleaned the block as good as o could and ran a block sander over it to give a more uniform surface (ie FLAT) and something to bite into. another good tip, hit the block with some spraypaint right before putting the gasket on, the tackiness of the paint will hold your gasket for you. im 15,000 miles into mine so far, and i drive it like i hate it sometimes.
  10. what motor are you running? also what method of resurfacing was used and most importantly, in what way was flatness confirmed? if you didnt use fel pro perma torque hgs, you gotta re-torque em.***only true if it is an ea82. this statement in no way reflects ej motors or otherwise. thanks Gary ive done a whole whopping one hg job myself. i took my time as i had a motor in the car already. basically, if those heads had any trace of their previous life and ground flat, they wont be happy. my ea82 is happy now. good luck buddy:popcorn:
  11. this should be a lesson in doing things right the first time. if you cut corners like resurfacing then it stands to reason that something else got skipped/done incorrectly (like torque sequence for example). in all probability, your motor is fine. take it back out, disassemble, and do it right this time. you can even resurface your heads by hand, run a search. no reason in buying another motor when you have a perfectly good one that just needs a little diligence.
  12. if you were the guy that was offended by a bunch of others posts and left....im glad you came back. this IS a good place. if not... welcome back anyway
  13. stainless you say?? i say chrome... difference? i dunno. what i do know, is i efn looooooove whitey. so glad to have him/her (yea, hes a hermaphrisoob, kinda like a frog. which is fitting, considering the somewhat amphibious nature of the roo) back in the family. nearly as happy that that silver car is only partialy my problem now. and Ellis is nearly equally happy to be rid of his old one and driving silver lol
  14. haynes(and chilton moreso, for that matter) are incorrect. this is not the only way in which they are deficient in their respective advice. i noticed the difference when i did it the right way.
  15. funny, i didnt even upgrade to 4runner gear yet, and its still ridiculous. this weekend im goin to remove the lift tabs and see what happens
  16. got some free accord springs, guess what i did with em. times up, i put em on an unblown (finally) set of wagon(finally) struts and slapped em on my 91 wag. and it hasnt settled AT ALL since i dropped it off the jack a couple days ago. i think im gonna remove the 2" lift in the rear, as it seams like ill still be lifted. also i think thats what jeszek did, and his wagon rules. installed the pushbar and bumper from the 88 wag i just sold to a friend(and bought whitey back!) painted two tone bumper with black undercoating. looks really good. installed giant annoying fart can. now i tell people its got a wrx motor...not really but its loud. so loud in fact that i might not leave it on there. then again, it may grow on me, i just dont wanna be cop bait any more than i already am. still need tires but its nice not to bang struts in the rear anymore. acquired the correct maxima alt. mine was from a 94 SE. wrong. got the right one and have already done the spacer dance so Crapwagon will be threadworthy (in my opinion) soon. thats it for now, whitey doesnt need too much atm
  17. contrary to the rest of the automotive world; proper bleeding procedure on old soobs is as follows. RF, LR, LF, RR.... im not saying that doing it the normal way cant work, especially given the attention payed with the rest of the job, but this is how it should be done. source unsighted as I have forgotten where its from. All I know is I read it and wrote it down on a card in my wallet where i keep stuff like that. (and wheel bearing PO etc..)
  18. got rid of that sucker! ill still have to work on it, seeing as how my friend sold his to buy it....but why sell it?? i got whitey back!!!! happy new year!:clap::clap::clap:http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc201/naomirford/roos/DSC01799.jpg
  19. even after driving my ea82 for a year with one blown heaadgasket and multiple 6 hour trips (just add water) i finally blew both. guess what... i had NO CRACKS in my heads, even after putting cold water in a hot block. i rebuilt that motor and resurfaced the heads myself caveman style. and it defrosts as wellas it runs. also, you dont have to pull the motor for a hg job so you can leave that useless fan there if you want. things are not as hard as they seem..... ps i have no idea why mine werent cracked. 90% of em are, overheat or not, just nature of the beast. btw it also doesnt matter 75% of the time
  20. my advice, run a search. you will conclude that the ea82 is not a platform that you can realistically make into a performance engine. it can be done, itll be expensive, it wont be all that reliable, and you still get eaten for lunch by stock ej motors. if you want your loyale to go quick, let alone fast....spend the $1500 and ej swap it.
  21. frameless windows (depending on the year, you might have frames) tend to be noisier because the seal isnt as static, being that its your window up against rubber as opposed to metal+rubber+metal sandwich
  22. if its in Tacoma, Ill know. Sadly, i might mention looking in the surrounding wilderness. this reeks of "dude, Rally Car"......i pray this is not the case.
  23. funny, mine works on any road. and real fast too. maybe its moist, maybe its not but my window melts ice on both sides if necessary. as for cooling, if your cooling system works you dont need a fan very often at all. ive gone crawling on dirt roads/wheeling on super hot days (as far as the pnw getsm so not THAT hot) and only needed to switch my fan on once or twice an hour and only whilst being atless than 5mph or so. also had to do that in holiday traffic once in awhile in the summer, if i sit for ten minutes or so. if you get a chance to use some compressed air you can clean the dust out of your rad in a jiffy. just try to do it outside. bottom line on ea82s imho: youre gonna need every one of those 90ish horses pullin that car around, might as well use em.
