  1. Well i recently got a landscaping job and the deal is i have to work 60 hours to get a 1988 mazda truck. yes not my first choice in vehicles but then again nobody else these days will pay me a truck to do work for them so of course i took it. the people who had it last put on a weber carb but didnt exactly do it right because it seems to bog down and die a lot. I saw it run perfect before he tried putting on the weber so im assuming it probly has a vacum leak somewhere on it. Once its 100% mine and i get it running right im not sure what ill do with it but id certainly consider trading it for a subaru
  2. Yes it appears for some reason wasps have a stange tendacy to love subarus.
  3. you seem different since the last time i saw you....did you get a haircut?
  4. Heres a picture of the buggy going on a christmas tree run.
  5. If i lived close to you id gladely help you with what i could. i really enjoy seeing this. ive been watching from near the beggining and love seeing all the progress.
  6. Definetely, if not ill buy it an finish it LOL
  7. Good news everbody. Problem solved. I took off the distributor cap and found out the cap was missing the little metal piece that gave connection to the coil. Im just going to buy a whole new cap and rotor for it and once that is on im certain my problems will be solved
  8. i found that transmission fluid worked wonders in my motorcycle chain that had gone stiff and kept breaking. added a little to a bucket and let the chain soak overnight in there and now no more broken chains in the middle of the woods LOL
  9. This could be wrong but ive been told that automatic transmission fluid is the same as marvel mystery oil. has anyone heard that before?
  10. ok thanks for the help. now im gonna wait tell its done raining and go do some work LOL
  11. well i started up my subaru buggy a couple days ago after it had sat for a couple weeks. for some reason the motor was not turning over and was clicking and after i let it click for a second it started turning and fired too life within a couple seconds (including that in case it may be relevant) i let it warm up and for like a minute and while it was idling it just died out. i tried to start it and it wouldnt start so of course going back to the basics i saw it was getting fuel, then i took off the spark plug and saw it had no spark. so i figure that means the coil is bad or not getting power. i use a headlight bulb and see the coil has power so i figure that the coil is just bad and id go to the junkyard and get one for $5 end of story....WRONG!!! I got get one from a suby wagon as ive been told those things pretty much never fail and think im set and go to install it and when its done try turning it over and it still has no spark. i go back the next day and say i got a bad coil and id like to exchange it he says hes never heard of a coil going bad and goes and tests it and sure enough it sparked and everything so i guess its not the coil. He said it was probly points but as far as i know the ea81 has electronic igniton so it wouldnt be that i dont think. so does this mean im gonna need to bite the bullet and replace the whole distributor or are there any other possible quick fixes anyone can think of. PS i took off the cap and the thing inside (whatever you call it) is spinning when it turns over if that means anything.
  12. welcome aboard, that is a very clean looking suby you have.
  13. looks like you got the same thing i had. well good luck with it. i hope yours works out better then mine did for me.
  14. Thats a good idea. i dont think i will ever own one again but thanks for the advice. Honestly when i think about it the whole thing seemed like a shoddy idea. they claimed it had a good tranny and good motor but when i think about it theres no reason why someone would pull apart the tranny on a car that ran good so it obviously had some issues. Anyways my ea82t story worked out well in the end because i only spent $50 and ended up getting $100 for it. now if anyone is ever at pull n save and sees a dark red suby with the left head light and fender bashed in (got carried away drifting in my truck one night) be sure to say hi to it and perhaps pick off some parts if you need any.
  15. Curiosity has struck me again. May i ask what kind of ea82t vehicle you have? I had a 1988 gl10 wagon i bought for $50. it needed notoriously awful 3at installed which i figured would be easy enough and if not i would simply put a 5 speed in it. This car had sat for years and i had absolutey no idea whether it ran or not. I wanted to try to start it or at least make it turn over before i take the time and money to install a transmission into it. Unfortunately it has a neutral safety switch and all kinds of other computer stuff and since im a wrench turner and not a computer person i simply got discouraged and gave up on it. Now i know there probably was some way i could have made it run but i had no idea how so i took the easy way out and sold it to pull and save where it currently sits getting parts picked from othe USMB members and awaiting eventually be turned into the beer can either of you may have to buy for one another.
  16. For the money it would take to make a somewhat reliable ea82 twin turbo setup you could get an ej25t with a 6 speed and swap it into that old wagon and make one heck of an awesome car that would make all the USMB folk including me drool. Now of course even that is gonna be very very expensive and unless you happen to have a ton of money not plausible for the time being. Now if you want a good boost of power that is fairly easy to install and very reliable go for an ej22. or perhaps see about a frankenmotor if you want some really awesome power.
  17. A well mantained subaru will almost always go well over 200,000 miles without any major issues. The 2.5 did have some head gasket issues but the majority were from the late 90s, 97 i believe was the worst year but im not 100% sure. As far as i know a 2006+ suby shouldnt be prone to any major head gasket issues and should last a long time. and if you stick around im sure youll find many subaru owners on here with subys still running good with over 300,000 miles and i think theres a couple with subys that have well over 500,000.
  18. Yes sadely your right. i honestly have no idea if its even possible to do this to one but ive had an ea82t before and i those things have enough trouble running at their stock pace. with a twin turbo set up unless you put some serious mods into it i doubt that motor will live to see its next oil change.
  19. This is far to great of an idea and would work too well. the government and oil companies will simply not allow it.
  20. Not to mention where on earth do you get premium for $2.60 a gallon? oh yeah this was posted in 2005!!!. Stupid gas prices!!!
  21. i honestly done see a difference in the performance in my ea81 with regular fuel but then again its a dune buggy and has no mile gage so the mpg its gets is really only a rough estimate. and yes i dont believe ethanol is pointless because even though we do need to conserve gas id be more worried about the world wide hunger caused by the fact that so much corn is being used for fuel. Plus it surely drives up the price of whiskey
  22. I know it took a while due to delays but me and my friend finally got that justy home we were talking about. apparently it does not need a clutch but thats nothing compared to what were in for now. we started it up to find a large cloud of smoke and it had such little compression that it took four people plus the car floored to get it up the ramp on the trailer. Its also leaking fluid and i cant tell 100% if its a cracked block or not because it doesnt have water in the oil but im pretty sure its fair to assume we might as well just put in a new motor. So for now we are in the process of trying to find a decent motor to drop in it. It currently has 139,000 miles.
  23. Ha this brings back funny memories. i remember the old 81 gl wagon i owned hadnt run in about 7 years. when i finally started it up i turned on the heater and it flung out a bunch of spiders all over me. seeing as how im scared as hell of spiders that was scary. And the dash was cracked like no other LOL
