Preferred gasoline for Subes?
86subaru replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
here is what i have , 86 spfi fwd a/t sedan, 88 dl d/r wagon, 88 tubo full time 4wd a/t wagon, all of these run better on shell 87 octine , if we buy maybe cheaper gas not always , we get aleast 2mpg less , on each car , but here again other board members have there own opinion , here in western ohio gas is 158.9 , columbus oh 154.9 -
I'm losing coolant - head gasket??
86subaru replied to phishy75's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
check all coolant lines, here is 1 that can leak remove spare tire and look towards headlight ,there is a small 1/2 in hose that is about 5-6 in long that can leak ,and run down just like you said or heater hoses -
alot of board members have there own opinion , i have tried a few products , it seems to help some , and i have seen some that seem to really work, some of the products cost alittle more $$$ than others , mmo seems to do a pretty good job and is cheap and has been around for along time , there is also X-1-R ,which i have seen work good, , i guess if the stuff that you are looking at is fairly cheap then use it , and report back here with you findings , but i think by using a good oil/ filter and change it every 3,000mi or less is still the best thing , now people have there own opinion again on brand of oil .

my slow charge is 15amp , boost is 60amp , i have it on 15amp , i checked with autozone and they said they would replace it free if the battery is junk , so tomorrow after charging it all night i will unhook it in the morning and try to start it 4-5 hours later , thanks all
-
i only charged it up for 15-20 min on slow charge , and fired up the car ,and drove it 10-15 miles ,so maybe charge it up longer
-
the answer to both questions, it is not a new alt , it is a sealed battery from autozone , it is about 1 year old, , the connections are good ,also the alt belt is tight , later on today i will go and buy a new battery , but before that i will have the battery tested ,thanks

on going problem, on a 86 spfi a/t fwd sedan, i changed my alt which it was bad, the battery was dead ,so i charged it up , hooked it up ,the can ran fine battery gauge was 12v, i drove it 10mi or so , i went out a few hours later to start it , no start , dead battery , the battery is 1 year old, now for my heater problem i ran a wire from the gree/white wire to the fuse box [ cig fuse] ,fan work good , would there be anything else causing the dead battery problem ? or are the 2 problems related ?

86subaru replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it could be ,the heater hoses right below the spare tire are bad or leaking
