  1. sorry can not help you ,but i would like to see pics of the subaru motors being used as a boat motor ,very interesting
  2. not to jack the post , but i was looking at d/r gl wagon and it to had a noise like that , but it went away as soon as you pulled away ,kinda like you had a flat tire ,thump noise in the rear , it has 231,000mi on it
  3. i had the same problem with my 86 spfi a/t fwd sedan , and it never did it before ,it only has 82,000 miles on it , i was using a dura - blend castrol 10-w 30 , then 1 day last week it started ticking pretty bad , [ temp outside 40 degree] so i changed the oil /filter to chevron 15w-40 , within 100 miles the ticking was all gone , and did and still has good oil pressure
  4. just my .2 cents , my 86 spfi a/t sedan had a bad ticking problem ,i changed the oil/ filter , i used chevron 15w40 and drove the car about 100mi and there is no more ticking , in my opinion i run with the timming belt covers on, while i had the ticking i had good oil pressure ,i
  5. any pics of the brat ? how much are you willing to give for a rust free ea82 d/r wagon ? ,w/ rear disc, xt sway bar, gl-10 seats, tinted glass, new tires, exhaust, glass all good,
  6. since i have no carbs, beside my brat, try some sea foam in the carb, it's like 5 bucks at napa , pour it into the carb and kill the motor ,let it set 15- 20 min , it will smoke alot , so do it outside , is the timming right? are you running cheaper gas? there are other board members that will disgree ,but running higher octine always help my carb motor , maybe it is just me but i buy my gas from shell in all my subaru's
  7. yes you can change the air suspension ,my rear air struts went out first , then my fronts, [ leaks] in my opinion change them ALL , it will make it alittle rougher riding but aleast you can drive it , mine is a 88 awd a/t turbo wagon
  8. it's in the switches, same thing here on my 88 gl-10 , i changed all the bad switches with good ones , also spray some lube around the window motors
  9. not trying to be smart , i had the same problem , my spare tire was a regular rim and tire , it was pushing against the throttle cable
  10. in my 88 dl d/r wagon i found an sony cd player, 2 radio's , 2 full big bags of trash , only thing wrong was the timming was off , needed a tune up , best of it is it is rust free
  11. within months your have pics fixing it , starting at a younger age is always better , basic tools 12mm ,14mm , 17mm 10mm , 36mm for the axles, braker bar, screwdrivers, timming light, good luck ,
  12. just about the same thing happaned to my dl spfi d/r wagon , i am not trying to give a smart answer , but my problem was the spare tire ,which fits on top was pushed against the throttle cable causing hi-low idle , , if it is a carb ,try some seafoam right into the carb ,
  13. my white dl d/r wagon, had alittle rust in the same area , get it down to bear metal and use EXTEND , lows sells it ,it will turn black , it works pretty good , then try to match the paint
  14. yes those are heater cores, be very careful and do not damage the lines , it is a fairly big job
  15. my heater core went bad in my 86 sedan ,i used 1 from a 88 sedan , and it was the right size , also it sure does look like the heater core from a xt4 is the same also
  16. i have 1 ,it was working when it was pulled , but check to make sure it will plug in and work , it came out of a single range 4wd manual xt4
  17. also k-n filter , cut out the bottom of the air box , check all vacuum hoses , run injector cleaner though[ chevon stuff]
  18. i myself ,miles fox, tom, did 1 on an 88 turbo a/t wagon .both sides , all other gaskets , about 14 hr job , stopped for lunch, dinner , drinking cold drinks, the gasket set was 200 bucks ,w/ alot of gaskets left over
  19. ok, if iam right there are different sizes , maybe 3 different sizes , thanks
  20. what are all the different hose sizes on a spfi none turbo motor ? and length ?
  21. ok, what about the fuel gauge being off ?, i think the float for the fuel tank on a wagon is in the back behind the rear seats ?
  22. hey james do you still want the xt fenders ? they are both at alleyboys , both for 1 money , send me a private message on price and details
  23. it is a spfi non turbo , new plugs, acell coil, cap, 8mm wires, k-n filter , after it warms up and is driven 5mi or so , but only at idle not while driving it
  24. well i almost got my dl d/r wagon running pretty good, except when the car is sitting running it surges , while driving it is fine , another problem is that the fuel gauge is off ,or i am getting 10 mpg , any suggestions ?
