My 1999 Legacy GT automatic transmission..
ccrinc replied to mwatt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's supposed to do that. It's a downhill engine braking feature. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

Still Broke
ccrinc replied to 99legacy2.5GTLTD's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere is a part in the '99-up 4EAT transmission that I believe is called a piston. I couldn't believe the first one I saw! The dang thing is made of aluminum, not steel! These have a lot of stress put on them, and definitely effect the shifting. We decided to stock new ones as a matter of course. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

2004 WRX is smoking
ccrinc replied to scoobdude's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCheck out http://www.awdpirates.net. There's a thread there about ring landings breaking. That much blue smoke under those conditions says "Rings" to me. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

DO NOT use bosch 4+ plat plugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One good reason not to use Bosch is that the German metric thread pattern has a different pitch. Perhaps that's why they appear to "seize up". The amount of distance for the electricity to jump is therefore greater than it is supposed to be (or is it less? I'm soooo confused! :-\ ) NGK is the best for Subarus. NipponDenso is also good and usually a bit less expensive. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

Oil Filler
ccrinc replied to TerryHowe's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDon't waste your time going back to the yard. The EA82 oil filler neck tube won't fit your car. It doesn't even bolt up the same. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

Losing lbs. for the holidays, and just over 18 cubic inches! (Engine swap time)
ccrinc replied to pulloff's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou won't find that timing belt guide on any EJ22 engine. It was put on, as an afterthought, around '98. And only on the EJ25s. The 2.2 doesn't need it, since it isn't interferential. If the alledged '95 EJ22 doesn't have an EGR port, is isn't a '95...simple as that. The head can be drilled and tapped for it by someone who knows what they're doing, but the head has to completely disassembled to do it. Otherwise you run the risk of metal shaving in bad places. Yes, it's in the exact same place on both engines. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

96 2.2 with single port Exhaust??
ccrinc replied to lmdew's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWe haven't seen any evidence to support that at all. Due to their small size, EJ22 exhaust valves can be a weak point in any year if the engine is running too lean. This will cause them to "burn"...I've even seen chunks burnt out of the edge of exhaust valves because of this. The single port heads do seem to carbon up internally a bit worse, or maybe they're just harder to clean due to the design. Even a 55 gal. ultrasonic cleaner won't take out burned on carbon! Frankly, the single port EJ22s seem as durable as the dual ports. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

Pics of the new 7-passenger B9X
ccrinc replied to a post in a topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXLooks too much like a Murano for my taste. On the other hand, I can see a LOT of people who will like the fact that they can get a Subaru that will actually seat more than 4 people comfortably. My daughter has a Legacy Turbo Touring Wagon and 3 kids. When the whole family goes anywhere, it gets darn crowded. But she wants a Subaru...so she's stuck with a wagon. I don't particularly like it, but I think it may be a huge seller! Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

96 2.2 with single port Exhaust??
ccrinc replied to lmdew's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXduh Need to watch what I'm typing. '96-99 are single port. '90-95 are dual port. '95 has an EGR on the left head. Emily

What Subaru models have 2.2 interference engines?
ccrinc replied to jodihodg's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe '99 EJ22 is a one-year-only model, sort of a hybrid between the EJ22 and the EJ25 SOHC. Frankly, I wouldn't own one personally. When (and if) that one fails, it's a total disaster! Plus, parts are going to be inconvenient: the timing belt for that is also for that year EJ22 only. It it was me, I'd keep looking. (Sadly, the '99 is a sweet looking car ) Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

Can a 2.5 OB be converted to 2.2?
ccrinc replied to soldierrsb's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe 2.5 DOHC conversion to a 2.2 is quite simple. You must use a '95 EJ22 in order to get the exhaust to match up. You do not have to change the ECU. You need the '95 intake manifold. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

How does hi-lo dual range work?
There are actually two sets of gears inside the dual range tranny: one for "normal" and one for "low". I've seen that job and I don't want it!! When you shift into 4x low, you actually engage the 2nd gear set, I do believe. On the other hand, I'm not the total tranny guru, and I'm going on memory... Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

Ocala national forest next weekend???
Oh man...wish I could go! I haven't been there in years!!! You have GOT to go to Farley's Prairie. It's just north of the turnoff to go to Alexander Springs. (some of the best snorkeling in the world) Also cool...Salt Springs and Juniper Springs. Especially if you like canoe runs. Get a good map of the forest from one of the rangers or you'll never find all the good back roads, and places that aren't on the state maps. Have fun and post some pix for me!!!! Broken Timing Belt Idler, what to do.....
ccrinc replied to Toaster55's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe water pump does not come with that idler. Check the threads: that may be what cut loose. The OEM manufacturer is NSK. You may find one under that name, but they aren't too expensive from the dealer either. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com

Ya'll wont believe this...
I had to put the FWD fuse in my '92 Legacy Turbo Touring Wagon LE last week on a trip from Denver to Rapid City, SD. (Why is another story). Not only does my car seem to have more pep, but my gas mileage just soared! I usually gas up in Lusk, WY then have to top off in Cheyenne to make it home to Denver (about 240 miles total), then have maybe half a tank left. I gassed in Lusk as usual, drove all the way to Denver, and around town for 2 more days! When I did stop for gas, I still had a quarter tank!! No actual count, but I'm figgering about 28-32mpg which is awesome for my car! I'm having Rick put a switch on the dash to be able to switch back and forth between FWD and AWD as needed.
