good idea for oil cooler or not?

i think the engine oil may be to thick to use the tranny cooler in the radiator.. atleast its quite a bit thicker then atf.. being that the oil and coolant passages in the head are so close together I would imagine them having some effect on each other no matter what.. If I gather some motivation and a thermostatic oil coulper with an output and input i plan on using a 2nd gen rx7 oil cooler.. large capacity and aluminum construction that polished nicely speaking of modifying the front.. thats what i did.. notched front bumper and opened up the grill.. all summer long in desert heat with the a/c blasting.. maybe one of the only ea82's in vegas that can... who knows -

yes.. it does look the subaru dash kit.. if it's not, get one and make life easy. the deck cage has the hooks that bend in to hold it to the new dash kit the 4 screws for the dash kit.. in my car it has been plenty secure over harsh terrain.. rllywgn -
there isnt any holes but the metal, but there is an 3/32 deep relief. i removed the badge on my trunk and filled it with metal filler and smoothed it out.. a nice clean look imo rllywgn

88 GL-10 turbo ft4wd sedan 175k this last tank of gas with a/c on I averaged 21mpg usually im right around 22-23mpg without a/c and my go pedal foot being near feather light rllywgn -

you can find those on MKII toyota supras (83?-86) they also have a crank for winding up the wiring after use.. not crazy bright but useful.. rllywgn -
do you have a blow off valve or a bypass valve? for your car to run the best a bpv is preferred. A bov can cause off throttle hesitation, because it is releasing metered air to the atmosphere.. this confuses the motor and causes a lean condition. rllywgn

switching to synthetic on a high mileage car requires a little bit of luck. the detergents in synthetic oils has a tendency to aggrivate leaks, be prepared for new spots on the ground and be willing to monitor your oil level on a regular basis. -

although I'm no expert by any means. I switched to Rotella T 5w-40 in my ea82t with so far good results. my oil pressure has remained more consistant at higher rpm's in this Las Vegas heat. I did have one oil leak from the O-ring on the head which convienantly drops right on to the exhaust manifold, but nothing new and no excessive oil loss. Im pleased... Rotella T is available at wal-mart also for $15 a gallon BTW purolator oil filter... fram's is no good... cheap paper filter rllywgn -
coolant dripping out exhaust port

if its coming out the exhaust port, it's likely a cracked head.. aluminum head rebuilders in portland, oregon has pretty good deals on reman'ed heads rllywgn -
wrx front clip and your good to go.. standard wrx, sti or RA.. all can be had from $2000 to $8000 u.s.d. depending on year, make and miles. you will need atleast the motor, ecu, wiring harness and some of the accesories if you dont want a complete clip good luck

85 GL-10 Turbo power lag

also make sure the clamps between the turbo and the throttle body are good and tight.. leakage can cause quite a bit of stumbling rllywgn -
you may want to check for other problems before upping the boost especially without a boost gauge.. your lack of power may be from something else. have you done a tune up? or atleast inspected the parts related to the ignition system? you may be setting yourself up for disaster by adding boost without supporting mods.. does the car stumble on acceleration? hick-up? hows the idle? the fuel-cut is protecting you, since a accurate boost level is not known rllywgn

im with ya there.. funny how a car can become part of the family.. although I've had my sedan for 6 months it has been by far the most loyal of my chain of subaru's.. 700 brought it home from a already caring previous owner. The car has taken the las vegas heat now like a champ! 115 degrees outside and the a/c blasting inside and the running temp is like the rock of gibralter... stable.. 192 all day.. freeways dont taunt me nor does stop and go traffic.. at 175K on the ticker I switched to rotella T full synthetic oil and it hasn't spilled its guts. So as this car continues to be a blast of a daily driver I will do my best to keep it happy.. an ej20 turbo motor will replace its still virile heart in the coming months and the fun should last for many years.. rllywgn

i would agree with the above statements.. oil pressure around 10psi at idle (10-30 when the cars cold) and 10 psi per 1000rpm when at running temp, it will be higher until the oil heats up if your coolants at 190 degrees while driving your in good shape, some fluctation will occur depending on conditions ie. hills.. rllywgn

Turbo fan condition question

if its clean inside thats typically a sign of a good turbo as well as having no shaft play.. you can also check to see if it has any inwards/outwards. you can also check the the aluminum peice from the turbo to the throttle body for oil residue.. if it's all clean thats typically a sign of a good pcv system and turbo. rllywgn -

good possibilty that the fan has been rewired.. a quick fix for a bad thermo switch or additional help for a less then stable cooling system. I've done this a few times just because I know I dont have to worry about the fan coming on when it's supposed to.. rllywgn
