Head gasket not the big problem here
i'm just trying to keep the bottom ends from failing the light oil dosent stay at top side of piston that well here its 10-30 for winter and 15-40 or 10-40 for summer the coldest it gets here is -25 and thats very rare and most subarus round here leak like sivs so the thicker the oil the slower the leaks i run 15-40 in all my subaru engines always have no ill efects i dont trust 5-30 in any subaru engine just to light. but hey thats just my opinion with the rate of rod berring failures anything that may help is a good thing

Head gasket is wrong type of engineering?
ivans imports replied to rverdoold's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXit all has to do with the expanison of the heads against the block as they heat up and cool down they expand and contract untill the gasket works loose they have had the same problem since the ea 71 headgasket have always been working loose on subaru moters since day one i think oringing whould still suffer from same efects cement the block mabee

Debating gutting my cats (Meow?!)
subaru cats are very high quality and do not go bad often [non turbo ] have seen cars with 400000+ kms on origanal cats not pluged or any problems they get ruined from running lean or antifreeze contamination

Head gasket not the big problem here
all subaru engines that are no hydroilic lifters get 15-40 oil and hydrolic ones get 10-30 have found that 5-30 is to light and will dammage bottom end subaru recomends 5-30 for gas millage pourposes not for longgevity. Have never seen a cracked pickup tube ever in over 500 ej engines have never heard of that ever till now dont think it whould matter anyway cracks whould be below oil level. Have however seen many oil pumps with loose screws on backing plate some had fallen right out thiss could cause oil preshure problems factory engines that had never been apart

solid axle tech?
make a hybread axle use the loyale ends on the gl shaft will give you longer axle cups that dont limit out as easy had to do thiss with buggy it likes to shear axles i like that its a fuse and is easy to replace i carry two spare axles to evry race but is best part to break better than diff or drive shaft and it consistaly breaks there so i know where the problem is it was a bitt better when i softend up my posi in back now only breaks when doing dounuts in tight circles

vibration
fastest way to ruin your car take it to dealer scary dealer mecanics are piad by the job and all that maters to them is how fast they can get the job done. eg when we asked the local dealer mecanic why he was orbital grinding heads instead of planeing them he replyed { WE JUST HAVE TO GET IT OFF WARANTY ] so who cares if it has problems later waranty will be off dealers and there policys are very shadey do not turst them i'm am personaly tierd of cleaning up dealers slopy shady work i wouldent even let them look at my car ever take it to GD or shawn or somone that cares about there qaulity control and reputation

Debating gutting my cats (Meow?!)
have cleaned cats before can be just washed out with hose strait water low preshure i whould not remove them cause the engine is tuned to have catts i have not seen any proof of power increase from removing catts on na cars and milage will go down cause o2s will not get hot enuff without catts

Head gasket not the big problem here
the 2.5 1 seems to be the worst for thiss the 2.5 d will give some warning knock on startup or ticking lifters or knock when reved but the 2.5 1 just spins the berring and done could be just the age of cars but i have seen more knocking 2.5 1 s than 2.5 d s the 2.5 1s seem to die at way less kms than the 2.5 d most of theese had at least 250000 kms or better the 2.5 1 s all under 200000kms some as low as 120000kms spun berrings even not overheated. Run out of oil mabee or luged no oil changes not shure but they dont seem to hold up that well. The average loyale i see has over 300000-450000kms on them and most still have same engine mind you they tick and rattle and miss but still go i dont even like theese engines but at least they held up. Even the 1.2 seems to hold up better and its a known poor engine still go's 250000 kms min before problems i think subaru enginers droped the ball on the 2.5 1

No AWD steelership diagnosed as duty c and clutch pack, replaced but still NO AWD
above the valve body is a fliud transfer line that moves fliud to the rear tail section is a 7\16 stainless line have seen it vibrate and break check it for cracks and remember the soiliniod stops the flow of fliud to turn on awd so it should not hold prehsure the soiliniod is deenergised to turn on awd
