  1. 1980 was the first year of electronic ignition I know I have an 80 and a shop Manuel for it
  2. Okay today it finally wouldn't start so I got out my remote starter and hooked it up and it started cranking instantly so I am pretty sure that the switch is just not getting enough power to cylinoid so I am going to rewire with a relay and see if that fixes it. Also I did try wiggling the shifter and changing from park to neutral it didn't make a difference
  3. Okay I got a new alternator in it is out of a 95 impreza 2.2 and it fits so nicely I'm so glad to have my car running again its good enough to get me where I need to go for now.
  4. Yep it settled down to 14.5 and seems to be staying there my voltage meter inside is malfunctioning but the charge light works so I'm not worried about that
  5. Oh ya one other thing when I first started it up I checked the voltage and it was all the way up to 15.5 but it had a dead battery I had to jump it so I will see if it settles down a bit
  6. Success I didn't get the gm alt in but i found a better fit. I put in a 95 impreza 3 wire alt in and it fits better even here's some pics Once I hooked it up it started charging right away and all my dash lights turned off I just need to clean up my wiring and it will be ready to go
  7. I'll defiantly keep updating on my findings.
  8. I think the sameris are more popular just because they get rolled often at a low mileage and they are not worth much in scrap so people turn them into offroaders. You see the sidekicks on the road more because they were better designed and lasted longer, I could see a lot of potential in the side kicks they are just harder to find at the price you can get a sameri for plus all you have to do to make a sameri into a off road rig is put truck tires on it Just my $0.02
  9. Jeeps are good rigs they are fairly tough but $1300 with a bad engine and those tires don't look like very good winter tires to me. IMHO I think they want to much for it even in that condition I would say $1000 max and as they don't want to negotiate price It sounds like they don't need to get rid of it. I would wait a while and see if the price goes down
  10. I don't listen to the radio much on the cars I did it to I never noticed though
  11. I just remembered when I first got my gl It had struts and shocks like this also. It scared me when I hit the first pothole and bounced across the road it probably didn't help that I was trying to drive like it was Rwd
  12. I've never seen one of these cause any problems with the engine performance including Chevys, dodges, subarus they are just to keep eltrical noises out of the radio I usually take them off in fact lol
  13. I miss my sameri I had 235/75/r15 walnut shell mud terrain tires on my sameri there was litterly no where I couldn't go
  14. IMHO I am a shadetree mechanic I hate working outside on the ground, but Even if there was a place to use a shop for an hourly rate I doubt I would use it. The main reason I wouldn't is because if I am doing a job that requires a shop (like a head gasket) I have friends that have shops and or a building that I can use. Tools are not a concern for me if I don't have one I will usually make one or again I have friends I think that the kind of clientele you will be looking to rent too are probably not going to have a lot of money and probably don't know or use proper safety precautions. It could probably be done but I doubt it is going to be very profitable. Just my $0.02
  15. Okay I put my front end back together and looked over it. I think a lot of my problem is the 33 year old suspension rubber I think it all needs to be replaced and I will replace the control arm at the same time. I have a torn steering boot but it is on the other side (i am going to replace the rack anyway) hopefully when I do this it will fix the problem.
  16. I like marvles mystery oil. I once knew a guy with a Honda that he ran out of oil and got a rod knock he filled it back up with oil and one quart of marvles and drove it for three months!!! I also like the Lucas I have never used their oil treatment but I know their tranny treatment works well.
  17. Black wix (the top line) is all I use on any car and from what I can tell they are built to the same specs as o.e. for subarus. just my $0.02
  18. Ahh I didn't know that, learn something new everyday on this forum it seems like
  19. Just a thought but maybe your centrifical advance (under your rotor) messed up. Try pulling your cap off check and make sure that is working properly
  20. i don't know if this is the same on the turbos, but i know on old gen wagons there should be a relay right above the hood latch. it is for safety in case of an accident it will cut fuel. i believe the relay is black or blue
  21. i would defiantly start by checking grounds make sure you have a good chassis ground. The 4wd indicators probably wont work unless you have a ground connected to your transmission. best thing to do with wiring problems is to start at the source (the battery) and work your way up, make sure that your fusible links are good, make sure there is no corrosion anywhere. I have had to practically rewire my wagon since i have got it so i know a little about wiring problems on these older subies more than likely the majority of your problems will be outside the cab that is where the elements can get to your wiring causing corrosion and or failure. check your plugs that connect to your transmission for the 4wd indicators make sure the seals haven't failed letting moisture in. good luck wiring can be a real pain
  22. bump: also i am looking into a newer model alt. a cs130d. the cs130d has dual internal fans (no fan behind the pully) and is less problematic than the cs130. hoping to get this car going soon my legacy is going to have to sit around for a while mud season is stating early and with the tires that are on it even if i did fix it it wouldn't do me much good edit:    lol just testing the emoticons seeing wich ones are back
  23. Hopefully you get to have a little fun in it after all that work
  24. Wow you have been busy. That is going to be sweet ride when your done.
