Leak at Front Transaxle...
ShawnW replied to Kilroy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFor just the seal in the case you mark the holder and the case of the tranny and count how many turns it takes to remove it so you get it back to the exact same spot. Pull the holder out, install seal, reinstall holder to exact previous position. Actually pretty simple but you will need to engineer a tool for doing it so it grabs those little teeth and doesnt break them off.

Just call. Lots easier than emailing for a quote, you get an exact one that way. Shipping, gasket kit, engine price, etc.

It's gonna be really hard to do this...
The Forester turbo will be awesome. Hands down reliable, fun, the total package. Keep the old 79 and sell all the others. Then you have the opposite ends of the spectrum. The legacy will be like wearing the shoes you mow the yard in to work....they are still comfy and functional but compared to the Forester just a little "older" and not really classic or anything neat like that.

1991 ej22T into 1984 vanagon taking place!
Sweet! Thats going to be fun to drive around. Get some truck tires for it (load range C tires) so you dont scare yourself to death taking corners. Vanagon.com has a nice tire section.

That'd look really cool. It already looks mean with studded snow tires on it. Damn you for putting these ideas in my head. (Surprisingly I hadnt even thought of doing that yet and I usually think along the same lines as you offroad junkies.)

Nope. LOL. That project (merging with the Subaru Vanagon forum) was a very much failed project because of their forums moderator being closed minded to the idea. Pretty close to pulling the forum from the list. Yep, dual range 4wd with a 5spd. Crawls like a hatch if my seat of the pants reaction is even close. Feels lower by 15% but again I can't tell--they are so different.

How many converts here?
Today I decided to convert from my Subaru Powered VW Vanagon to an 88 Toyota Minivan. Its got a 2.2L engine that unfortunately is under the front seats but its a pushrod engine, the trans is a 5spd instead of a 4 and it really cruises along nicely, the A/C works awesome and it looks better than the Vanagon (IMO OF COURSE). Vanagon ad to follow in a few days.

Turbo Brat Wiring Harness
Id just aquire another Brat that runs and drives and use the two parts cars to make it really good. Ditch the turbo and just build a Carb Brat, LOTS easier. When you part out the turbo dont forget the gas tank and fuel pump....they are rare and nice for conversions that people do to EFI their old GL's and Brats.

Removing Woodruff Key on 1995 2.2L Subaru legacy

(channel lock wire cutters) Grab it flush to the crank and pull the cutters upward while grabbing the key. Damaged key kits available from www.s-wingstuff.com call them for details the kit isnt online.

Front axle procedure for early EJ series

With air tools of course I: -Remove wheel (19MM lug socket) -Remove axle roll pin with above craftsman punch or even Better Snap-on one (TONS LONGER and makes it easier). -Remove ball joint bolt with 14MM socket and pry it out of the bottom of the knuckle. -Remove Axle nut. You might have to unstake it with a drift punch but usually an 1/2" impact gun will re-round the nut naturally. (32MM socket EJ/36MM EA) -Pull inboard end of Axle out of Transmission -Pull Outboard out of knuckle. -Install new/reman axle to knuckle. -Install Axle nut, stake nut using a drift, punch, or similar but the punch that removes the pin wont work well, needs to be sharper or flatter. -Line up axle onto splines on transmission and make sure your punch will go thru the hole easily and that the caved hole on the axle and the caved hole on the trans stub are on the same side. Otherwise you are in for 20 minutes of cursing while you try to get the rollpin out of the axle and transmission. With axle loose on the trans pop the knuckle back onto the ball joint being coordinated enough to not have the axle fall off the transmission. -Install 14MM bolt into ball joint. -Install roll pin. A 1/4" 1' long extension works wonderfullly. Put the pin into the end of the extension that your socket wrench normally goes into and tap with the other end. When its almost all the way thru finish it off with your punch. On the side with the catalytic converter sometimes you have to get it from the top instead...extend with more extensions to suit if necessary but usually the 1/4" extension will sneak around the cat. -Install wheel and lug nuts tight. Lower car to ground, and torque lug nuts to 58-72 Ft pounds.

Colorado: Caravan/Carpool to WCSS9??
Im planning on attending but gas being what it is, I would love to split it with a person or two that would be willing to ride along in my car. So if you want to go but dont have a reliable enough car, enough gas money to make the whole trip, etc, contact me. I have a roof basket on the top of the car so plenty of things, parts, gear can be brought along. Im planning on taking my 83 EJ22 conversion. Pretty comfortable in the front seat and if you are under 5'8 or so not so bad in the back seat. Car doesnt have A/C.

Co-Forum Meet Greets???
It works rather well. Just setup a meet on one and then link people over to the other forum to read about the meet. Make sure that the forum you post the meet on doesnt block guest viewing as thats kindof annoying for the people that arent registered on the forum you list the meet on. Here in Denver the dominating forum is AWDPirates.net. Its mostly go fast types but they never seem to mind the old schoolers from this forum showing up. We don't keep up with them very well on the mountain drives they do after the meets but oh well. Some of the people on their forum have aquired old Subies because of seeing ours and they do some pretty cool work on them.
