  1. Body: 83 GL-10 Turbo wagon Engine: 93 EJ22 Trans: 3.7 RX trans and LSD rear diff (soon to be 3.9 D/R from 88 SPFI Wgn)
  2. The SVX harness isnt a problem, when done it is tagged for installation generally toward any other vehicle. You just have to find on the car its going into...where tach, ign on, bat hot, etc are already and connect what is on the SVX to it. I think I could point you toward everything.
  3. I rebuild these engines every day. When I build them I measure the piston clearance and size the pistons to their bores. A growing percentage of the EJ25 engines are not suitable for a rebuild. The bores are egg shaped from the overheats or deformed by something. Subarus first Ej25s (in 1996) were a drastic difference in piston skirt length and they have done nothing but make them shorter since. The 96's rarely slap but they still are found with it. It is my opinion that the EJ25 engine is a decent one. Its still a decent engine but we are spoiled by the quality of the previous designs. EA81, EJ22, EJ18.....for example. The real kicker..... Find a 1996 model year car with the EJ25 DOHC Hyd lifter engine that has a manual transmission behind it. Curse Subaru for their tenacity to put their best engines in front of Auto trannys. Ea81T, Ej22T, SVX....GRRR!
  4. Thats pretty cool. Just need to work on the range IMO but otherwise ideal.
  5. WOW I have never seen that happen on the board before. Now what rare beastie are you sending across the pond this direction!
  6. My old 87 Brat had a vibration I could not get rid of. I tried everything and then sold it in that condition. They emailed me a week later saying they had a guy fix it and it was the u joints in the driveshaft. I still dont know how that can be but it would vibrate alot on the highway.
  7. Thats how I did my first one. Send it out and I will send it back as fast as I can.
  8. First, we need to know...85 GL what? Youre going to find that owning that car is a PITA at parts store, dealer, etc until you tell them which perticular kind. The GL Wagon or Sedan is an ea82 engine. The hatchback or Brat body car is an ea81 engine. If you have the hatchback that is 4wd with a 4 speed manual transmission its the ea81, if its a 5 speed 4wd its an ea82. The possibilities are pretty long for this question, need more information and to know which model above you have. Check the oil and coolant. Are they full? Is there any sign of a belt that broke? If the Alternator belt broke the car would die pretty rapidly and might have black smoke. If the timing belt broke (ea82 only) it would do the same somewhat. If the engine thru a rod or blew up it would have black smoked and died fast, ironically it still might turn over or even run in this condition (I drove a 3 cyl ea82 with a rod thru the top almost 3 miles before it finally bought it!). Poke and prod your head around under the hood a little. The car wont bite.
  9. A Subaru with real wood on the side would have been hilarious IMO.. As equipped, 14.2 MPG. With the woodgrain package removed 28. Thats assuming you wipe the car down with lemon fresh pledge before driving.
  10. I know a bunch already and have lots of dealer books so post em up.
  11. Cool, not too far from me now in Denver! Id like to have a midwest meet just south of you at Carhenge. If you havent been down there you need to. Its just north of Alliance. Its in the middle of nowhere but there is a state park near by and would make for a fun place. Really neat at night to take weird photos.
  12. You need a clutch. Memory tells me that the car will be a hyd clutch. Beardmore Subaru has a good reputation from what I have read in the past. Shouldnt be too far from you.
  13. This thread was moved out of the USRM. This isnt a "Solution" but rather a temporary workaround until someone can afford to buy/replace their catalyst. Also worth mentioning that it is illegal to tamper with emission controls on a car and this is just that.
  14. Still be worth putting this sort of trans in an outback and using the bellhousing adpater. I look at the trans everyday at work as it lies in a tool cart stuck in the corner. I think its been a year since I messed with it now.
  15. Go sit in your garage with the car running and tell me that the crap coming out of the tailpipe is good for you. Ignore it, dont, I dont care just educate yourself from both/all sides before you throw all of the "environment" stuff in the garbage. Theres no reason to not "tread lightly" and there is no reason to run a Subaru without a catalyst and use 1974 emissions standards. Want to go back to BBS text only internet while you are at it? Lets leave the pollution to the volcanos and the ocean. If you are going to make your car run at 1974 levels at least make it peak levels. Air those tires up to proper levels, gap the spark plugs, check dwell, timing, and points and mount the high beam switch on the floor!
  16. Sorry but youre wrong on the $150 Y-pipe being expensive on the $500 car. If the $500 car is worth driving then its worth $150 to make it run right. A subaru that isnt running right produces a ton of pollutants and doesnt save you any money over driving a SUV, V8 car, etc. Right in this case is one of those very rare times.... A time when something will improve MILEAGE AND POWER. These things are very rarely hand in hand but this is one of them. People that remove cats tempt me to turn them in. Its absolutely rediculous to remove one unless its to replace it. An efficient and properly maintained car with a cat on it runs just as good as one without. Grow up and realize that you have to breathe all that crap coming out of the tailpipe of your car and everybody elses. Anything you can do to help make it easier to breathe should be done. Its just as dumb as driving around with all of your tires 20 PSI too low. (which I see a lot of)
  17. Considered renting a garage unit? Can u get it to Denver? Don't forget about towbars they can really kick butt for a little car and save a bunch of weight and make it possible to tow with a lot smaller vehicle.
  18. On the vanagon there is basically a spot for the radiator you just need to open up the lower grill hole and add a grill, fans, plumbing, wiring for the fan, etc.....extensive and not worth it. On a bug you have to decide if you want a heater, decide where to mount the radiator (seems popular to put it in place of the back seat somehow?), and same as above wiring for a fan, adding lines in/out of the engine, etc. Creativity is the short answer.
