Foolish people with hacksaws.. attacking ea82
MorganM replied to Clearwater99's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
*ALL* vacume hoses need to be plugged into the engine OR capped off tight. What year and model subaru? Are you SURE this is carb and not the single point fuel injection EA82? -
Where does the Justy owner fit in on this site?

We restrict you guys to that dark little room downstairs in the back. Also please enter and exit the USMB through the back door -

With that many outages I would replace fusible links under the hood. Also pull the fuse panel inside and inspect fuses (down by your left knee!). The panel has a chart with all systems ran by corrisponding fuses and the fuse amp ratings. -
Overheating Question! Ugh Grrrrr
MorganM replied to Goatboy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Throw a needle stethiscope on it. Should sound smooth and fairly quiet. No loud squeeling, rythmic squeeks, or vibrating around. Pull off the front timing belt cover and make sure it's not leaking. Ensure the belt and pully are tight. That's about it , short of pulling and inspecting. Good luck! -
Thanks for the clarification. Looks like a minor difference in the 2 lifts.

Yeah $100 for rims and tires in good shape is a steal. Drive em into the ground!

I think it's just slop inherint with the rubber mounting system. The tranny and engine are all on pretty spongey rubber mounts. Even the stabilizer bar on top of the engine to the unibody is on thick rubber bushings. Then all the corssmembers and subframes are mounted with thick rubber bushings. Helps make for a smoother ride but also leaves a lot of slop when she 'bucks' in certain situations. With the lfit kit in my wagon now, and letting out the clutch pretty quick at lows peeds, the gental 'slopping' that was always there is very exagerated. I really have to either be applying the brakes or using the gas pedal. I'm sure all new bushings and mounts would do wonders for this but honestly who wants to replace all that crap It's alot of work pulling all your maing assemblies appart just to slip in new rubber bushings. New mounts might do you some justice; they look fine and work fine but I'm sure are plenty 'broke in' giving you lots of slop. Just my 2 cents

that really sucks man. maybe you can get rid of them over seas where they still use metric rims ?

Hmmm could be.... if only the directions were more clear

Sounds like a nice car. I loved my '90 Legacy. As far as performance I was content with just cutting off the muffler and driving it like I stole it. Since it's a daily I would just stick to the body work I noticed someone mentioned hood scoop above; I actually have a LEgacy hood scoop just wasting away in my garage on a shelf. Just say the word and it's yourse! Since you are painting the hood; might as well cut a hole and fiber glass on this scoop Talk to you later.

That's a good place to start. Either swap on another one or see about cleanign yours up. Might just be sticky. Vacume leak can also be a culprit. This would sound like an intermitant one. Prolly from a loose clamp or small crack? Maybe a vacume line thats just starting to melt/crack? Check those all out. Also hear lots of ppl having problems with rotting out carb base gaskets. Try misting some ether / starter fluid by the base of the carb. See if idle increases shortly. That can help find vacume leaks also. Good luck!

dam i think mine are bolted to the inside also. That would explain the funny rubbing sounds! Have to check that out tonight.

I like burning gas in my Subaru If I was that worried about fuel conservation or monetary conservation I would have bought a Hybrid or a VW TDi Rage the gas! -
