  1. This wont be the 'Death' of your car When was your last oil change + filter? A quality filter will also have antidrainback built in. Should take only a sec to get oil pressure.
  2. Have plenty of kitty litter on hand if you dont have a parts wash'n bin
  3. This really depends on what lift type it is. Suspension Lift: Adjusts the suspension higher / lower, and there fore angles at your CVs and DOJs. Fuji Heavy Ind. put adjustable suspension on 4WD models, either the manual or pnuematic. They state clearly that it's more wear on the axle assemblies with their modest suspension lift. Body Lift: This puts spacers between your unibody and your main subframes (basicly; there are some details to making it work properly ) This does not effect your suspension geometry and your CV / DOJ angles will be fine. A good xample would be a Back Yard Boy's lift kit. Both! Yes lots of vehicles run both. Lots of things can break offroading or you can get stuck. That's part of the risk that makes the reward so much sweeter :drunk:Its great to be oudoors, with friends, camping, and a bonfire !_!
  4. Good to meet you Tcat and the wagon is sweet. That camo job was pro and looked trick. Can't wait to get out on the trails with you. Need to pass tech first though! I was supprised how many people were there !_! No where to park by the time Arch and I rolled up. No less than 25 cars and 40 people; then that long train of turbo duders showed up What happend to Kurt ?_?
  5. It just hit me how similar this is to "how fast can I go?" Same answer; as much time and money you are willing to put into it The Offroad FAQ should get you in the ball park of what can fit.
  6. There is a company in Austrailia that does a 6" kit. I emailed them about it; sounded like an all inclusive kit. Still would expect some customization during install to make stuff fit. I think you'll find most of these questions answerd here in the Offroad section Search through it and you'll find the talk about quad rims and 6" lifts. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=30
  7. I don't have a cell phone; maybe Tcat has one? Almost got you some specific directions here. I'll PM you in a few minutes.
  8. There's always room for a BRAT! I'll PM you some directions or something.
  9. That guy is a tool then. Try and get someone else on the phone. If they still cant conjure up that part number then tell them you want a fuel pump for an EFI Ford F150, early 90's, the one that has the intake pump and an inline pump closer to the engine. YOu want the in line pump that costs no more than $75. They will of course want to sell you the $150 one. =P You should be able to upload photos to the Photo Gallery in the upper left corner. Click on My Gallery and Album Admin. PM me if you need more instructions.
  10. Here's a few bullet points: Symetrical AWD. Not many people know what that means or even care but those who do know why its superior. 2.5 Turbo boxer engine. Big bore + short stroke + forced induction = lots of torque with lots of HP LSD's Driver Operated Center Diff (DOCD) 6speed Variable Valve Timing DOHC I don't know of any Ford you can get all that in one package. However Subaru has the WRX STi and STi Prodrive
  11. I was looking on their site. I really like this setup:
  12. CCR Inc. would be my suggestion. Great service from people who know and love Subarus as much as anyone here! You will pay for that service and knowledge but if you got money to spend and want a solid Subaru power plant to start with they are the people to call. Here is their USMB profile: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/member.php?u=358 Here is their website: http://www.ccrengines.com For a used engine you might as well start scavanging the junkyards. Keep your eyes on The Marketplace here and on ebay also. Might score something!
  13. Mine never stayed in long enough to ruin any tires or axles. First time I went offroading with them in 75% of them were missing. Once the springs got fully extended they just fell right out For a minor, cheap, lift you might consider the factory FHI Subaru lift 4WD Subarus came with adjustable suspension. You can crank in about 1.75" of lift. As noted above this is added strain on the axles but hey; gotta pay to play right?
  14. I got a spare one off this Loyale I'm stripping. If you wanted a factory one to get you by; as it were. Send a PM if you are interested in it.
  15. Wonder how much an alternator specialist shop would charge to recoil and pack a standard EA82 60a alternator housing to put out more wattage... might have to make some phone calls tomarrow when I'm bored at work
  16. I'm not really into offroading at night. That's usually when someone gets stuck, breaks down, and you get lost trying to get back to camp 4 hours later than you expected. Much rather spend the evening around the camp fire talking about that day's sessions
  17. Turbo would be fun but I'd get any EA82 EFI engine. Seen plenty of carb engines crap out on super steep climbs. If I may suggest; get some real tires on the buggy. That way you get the oil pan off the ground! Looks like its the lowest point on that vehicle depicted there. I'd run the biggest tires that fit; especially with a turbo engine. Need a solid skid plate that protects it too.
  18. If it's just the rubber O rings then you can get those and just reseal them. Dunno about availability on said parts but you should be able to get your hands on some.
  19. I wouldnt do a self repair on it. MIGht be able to find a shop locally that could put a new side tank on it. Prolly worth your time and money to just get a new one.
  20. My intent was not to queel the DIY spirit. Certainly spray it on if you want to. I'm just saying talk to some pros with your questions first before even buying anything. There's good advice in this thread but nothing compared to what some old pros could tell you and show you. They will get you on the right track for tackeling this project yourself.
  21. I wouldnt be intentionally stopping in mud with Douglas Performance GT street tires :-p
  22. There is no need to take it down to bare metal. It will ad hundreds of hours to prep work and hundreds of dollars to your bottom line. Get the gloss coat off the current paint and a good surface for the primer to adhear to. This is also when you will cut out any rust and bondo back what you can or weld in new metal. You can build up the primer over the this surface and lay yourself a nice surface for that big $$$$ paint. I'm talking layers of primer here.... sand, prime, sand, prime, sand, prime.... Honestly you should be talking to automotive paint professionals and the people at your local, reputable, automative paint supplier. They will answer all these questions and have better advice on things not even coverd here. Forget shopping around online for this stuff. You need to be talkign one on one with professionals. That's where I learned what little I know; from talking to the guy I borrowed the spray gun from as he worked auotmotive paint for years and does plenty of painting on his to scale R/C Jets he builds and talking to the people at the automotive paint supplier (they supply to most of the big name shops around the twincities).
  23. Glad to help. Might look into renting one. Tool rental places or even some auto parts stores rent tools. I've even found a guy nice enough at a local auto shop to just let me use the light for 10 min.
