You'll need to 'bench bleed' the master cylinder. Take two old male end fittings and cut the lines real short. Then slip on about 5 inches of rubber hose on the hardlines you just cut. Unscrew the fittings from your master cylinder and screw in your new 'bleeders' you just made. Pop the cap off the MC resivour and run the rubber lines directly up into the resivour. Make sure its at the Full mark. I would also suggest using clear tube so you can watch the air bubbles. Now get in the cabin and pump the brakes. Keep pumping untill you see no more air bubbles in the lines. Now quickly remove and replace the normal hardline fittings. Then bleed your brakes at the brake cylinders like you would normily (cross directional patern) and you should have some solid brake pedal action!

I totally agree here. Tires = clearance; not lift kits. Lift kits just enable you to fit larger tires more easily. You can get atLEAST 27"x8.5" tires on there with no lift at all. If you are not worried about cutting and bashing to make room you can go larger. Less backspacing at the rims will also allow for wider than 9.5" tires. Sounds like 27"s or 28"s would be perfect for your application of light offroading and mostly street driving. I wouldnt worry about a lift if thats all the bigger you want to go. Might need to swap on less worn out strut assemblies if they are sagging bad. Those can be had from junkyards for real cheap. Good luck!

how do you install oil pressure gauge?
MorganM replied to avatar382's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Need a fitting that replaces your electric sending unit there on your pump. The fitting screws right in and the hose comes out of it upto the guage. Get enough tube to reach the whole length; I would advise against using couplers and extending the line. That would be just one more point of failure in your oil system. The guages I've setup came with several fittings so you could mix and match to fit your application. Also came with a little bit of thread sealer. Dunno where you'd find just the brass fittings and tube by itself. -

Problem with gear shift/transmission 1986 GL

Did you do the clutch replacement yourself or did a repair shop do it for you? If a shop did it for you I would hold them responsible for anything that is wrong. -

Sorry you feel that way. Many others have expressed the exact opposite. Belive me when I say that I'm not here to pick any fights. I'm far less confrontational than other members. What's your beef with me?

There is no front carrier I'd call up John (mudrat79) and ask him about it. He's a great guy and if he's not too busy at the moment I'm sure he'd tell you all about it. -

you need NO special tools for this job...
-
Tensioner wrench? What's that fancy thang? :-p Really tho you don't need any special tools to do a timing belt job on these little guys. I just did 2 timing belts in the street last weekend. Only used a 10mm, 12mm, 14mm,, 22mm, screw drivers, and a bottle of water. Make those tensioner pullies do their job! Hold them tight against the belt as you tighten them down. Just like you do on an alternator For spinning the cam just put on a belt that isnt really that tight, slip the crank pulley bolt on and roll over the engine with your breaker bar + 22mm socket untill the cam is lined up how you want. Then do the other cam seperately. Once they are lined up continue on!
