  1. It's cool man I got room for a spotter in my Subaru. Hey and your seat will be the one FULLY bolted to the unibody! Driver's seat isnt so fancy.... maybe Archemitis can weld it in before we leave the shop! What's wrong with your Subaru?
  2. Look'n good man! After that skid plate its time to get her dirty, right? (ps: tuck that wire up better! )
  3. I'd start with Skips cheap and easy idea first. Maybe he can elaborate where you might find this under the hood specificly. Valve guides/seals and piston rings are a pretty major undertaking. A shop will charge you a lot for this work for good reason. It requires removing and dissasembeling the entire engine pretty much. With that many miles on your engine and by the sounds of it this really isnt negativly impacting your driving I'd just live with it. Usually valves guides and piston rings do not wear out quickly... have you noticed this get worse over the years OR did it come on very quickly? Also remember to top off yoru oil! If you are burning it off to produce that smoke then it's gonna get low. I check mine every time I get gas
  4. they are the cheap paper plates that you have to use whiker holders underneath or they fall apart from all the pork'n'bean juice :-p
  5. What's it SMELL like? That's how I determine what smoke is. From there you can start narrowing down sources of how that would getinto your comubstion chamber or exhuast. Smell like burnt oil? burnt coolant? raw fuel?
  6. Maybe we could meet up there at the shop then go somewhere? I know a couple easy trails right near there. Used to take my 2WD GL and Legacy wagons down there when I lived in West Saint Paul. KoD is off Concord Ave. in Invergrove Hieghts. Take 494 too Concord Ave (just before river bridge) and exit. Go south into Invergrove Heights. KoD is on your left a few miles; cant miss it. Pizza / Sub shop is directly accross the street on your right; just park there. I actually dunno what is planned for my family SAT. I'll have to talk to my wife and see if I'm open. It's Thanksgiving time so we MIGHT be going to someones house.
  7. WOW Minnesota members are coming out of the wood work in this thread! Glad to see you guys are around here. sinbin: I"d love to check out your Brat. I'm in Minneapolis all the time so maybe I could swing by some time and we'll kick some tires and talk about Subarus The only other Brat I've seen even remotly around here was just accross the boarder in WI. Tcat55371: We wont hold your age against you! I'd like to think passion for Subarus extends accross age gaps.

    snorkle

carb or EFI? also consider what else needs to be water proofed. I put dielectric grease on all my electrical connections I can find. Distributor needs to be water proofed. Also get your tranny sealed up (a lot of times the boots and stoppers are worn, cracked or missing). The list goes on :-p
  9. Awsome! Got'er done pretty quick too. Pics?
  10. Teenagers, just like dogs, can be well trained to make the right decisions but when it comes down to it they make the decision I've seen dogs stop for traffic more than once without someone telling them to. For my son saying 'well billy dared me!' is no excuse.... Are we far enough off topic yet? :-p BTW Zapar Im gonna get that money order this week for the offroad video! Can't wait to watch some hardcore Subaru offroad'n action. Maybe I'll learn something?
  11. Pics of getting stuck? Sure! Wasn't the 'strangest' place but I sure was stuck. Marked a line on the inside of the door jam to how deep I was.... almost over the tires
  12. I can't hear it over the air compressor, drill, hammer'n, whoop'n'holler'n anyway so I just put it on NPR.
  13. Naw, the OTHER hatch back I dont think he's posting about it becuase ppl will just think its another 'what if' or 'planned mods' thread
  14. Just stating my opinon If people don't like it they dont have to agree.
  15. Here's a good tech inspection list. If you pass this you'll be able to get into most any ORV park or trails. Some dont apply to Subarus but it's a good list to go by. http://www.ci4wi.org/Castana2004.htm Glad to hear another Subaru offroader is here!
  16. Nice tires man! They should do you good for now Might need to get a set of those for my KIA this winter... fronts are almost bald
  17. Before I had a lift.... tires... or even 4WD.... I was playing around in an old abandon parking lot. Lots of big puddels but pretty flat terrain. The middle of the parking lot looked pretty soft.... but how bad could it be? I got plenty of speed up and was in 2nd gear. Figured 'hey i got lots of momentum Ill just blast trhough it to the other side where its dry'. Hit it hard and just kept on flooring it. Then I felt it get deeper and started sliding around a little. Soon I flet it rubbing on the bottom floor boards... then I knew it was game over. Lost all momentum and just stopped. Stuck upto the floor boards in all of about 9 inches of mud. So basicly I got stuck in an old parking lot!
  18. 4" lift? I'd get 30"x8.5" atleast with those toyota rims you should be able to go wider also. How about 30"x10.5"? I had a set of 30"x9.5" Baja Widetrack Radials on pug rims and 3" lift befor swaping out to 29"x8.5" but the pug rims had too much backspacing. The toyota rims I've looked at had beteen 3.5 and 4.5 inches of backspacing depending on what they cam off. The pugs have 5" so thats what limited my width to 9.5". You'll be flooring it a lot tho!
  19. Hey, news flash, nobody MADE that 16 year old "race" anyone.... That person made the conscious decision to apply more pedal and "race". If some duder pulls upto your 16yr daughter and revs his engine to "race"... nobody is MAKING her do anything. She makes that decision and if she DOES race maybe you should kick HER rump roast for making the WRONG decision.... not threaten the person she decided to race.
  20. awsome man glad to hear its running! gotta love the warm fuzzies of fireing up an engine you built and put in so when is that EJ22 swap? man that hing would pop wheelies! (prolly more due to all the weight in the back LOL)
  21. There is as much seriouse offroad terrain as you and your friend's stomach can handel Gilbert and Apple Valley Farms were both featured in a big name magazine for the MN-Challange event. Here are some photos of terrain around Minnesota: http://www.mn-challenge.com/2004_photos/ I've taken my Subaru up to the "Little Falls" ground there. Helped them clear trails before the challenge event. Great time and great terrain up there!
  22. Search through what M+S tread patterns are avalable. Some manufactures, like Duralon, make some pretty aggressive M+S tires.
  23. SOunds like a good idea. Reroute those vacume lines properly as he suggested. Could also go to a junkyard and look at how vacume lines are hooked up on a Subaru with the hitatchi.
