    lift qs

I'd talk to mudrat79 about his 12" lift on "Weeble Wobble"
  2. Time for a new radiator man!!! I like the color scheme so far. Neat bus!
  3. Well you get documentation with the kit. I dunno if it's been updated or not but what I got read more like a pirates treasure map. A list of hints more then a step by step proccess. At first I thought it was kinda lame.... but then it just became yet another SUBARU ADVENTURE! What fun is having everything all spelled out for you? We'd sat there... stared at the blocks... read the last tip..... talked over some ideas..... then executed! Every step felt like an acomplishment
  4. There are some tricks you can do I guess. One I know is by tilting the camera so the angle looks steeper. Any other offroad photoagrophy tricks???
  5. Sounds like you are setup there with your shop man. I think youll be able to put together a fine little lift. Maybe post up some pics and progress? Or atleast a final total on $ spent for supplies and time spent on fabrication.
  6. Yeah; offroading rarely looks big on film or photos. I look at photos of Roy's and Castana remembering how nuts it was.... but the photos make it look like a lowerd Impreza would make it. Too bad there isnt a "GO BIG!" filter in Photoshop
  7. Hopefully your dash lights didnt burn out from the blown voltage regulator! Maybe we should just hitup a junkyard soon? Then we could get the PCV mod parts (for free!) and you could get a junkyard alternator. As for the exhuast I have an EA81 Y pipe to a piece of straight pipe with a thunderbolt style glass pack. The muffler dumps right before the rear main crossmember so it echos real loud under the car. Chux is dead on with the backpressure. I"ve had many, many different exhuast systems on my GL wagon. The Y pipe is key to keeping your low end torque. Also not going to large diameter on the pipe is key. With a gutted out cat and a glass pack you'd be sounding really nice and a little more flow with out sacrificing your low end.
  8. I'm a big fan of SeaFoam also. Good stuff!
  9. stock tire size? put on the biggest ones that fit!
  10. Do not forget the steering linkage. It will need to be extended since you are moving the front main crossmember farther away from the unibody. From looking at mine it appears that it's just cut off at each joint on the shaft and a new shaft is welded on. You could prolly get away with cutting the shaft and sleeving it for an extension. I don't know the exact degrees but you are right about the front strut blocks. They are designed to keep your camber correct so you don't chew through tires! I'm sure BYB555 or PKDavis could get you the numbers you need. For the rear why not just run longer shocks? I know a few have done this. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=25347 That should help in the rear suspension department. A custom built lift is doable. As stated above however time is money. Unless you have a bridgeport/drill press, chop saw, welder, and a reasonably priced metal AND hardware supplier you will end up spending more time and money than you would buying a pre-fabricated product. Some just like the challenge of things and if that is really why you are doing this then go for it! If you just want a good lift kit then take some time to crunch some numbers.
  11. I really dig those Brushbasher With those rims you can get on some wide tires and still turn!
  12. You can always go to solid axles later
  13. We have a special guest coming in from the Hatch Patrol in WA! Would be great if we could all get together for another MN Meet. Here are some dates; please vote on which one works best for you! Monday, 27 DEC 04 Tuesday, 28 DEC 04 Wednesday, 29 DEC 04 Thursday, 30 DEC 04 Friday, 31 DEC 04 (New Years Eve) Saturday, 01 JAN 05 (New Years Day) Sunday, 02 JAN 05 Last meet we had a dozen people and 6 subarus. Hopefully we have just as many or more this time! Would love to see a Brat there or something older than '84 No requirments to come; just show up! Does'nt mater if you are unlifted in a 2WD automatic Justy!!!! Hell we even let the Jeep guy stay last time! Come on down MN Subaru duders !_!
  14. Austin will be coming in town between 20 DEC and 05 JAN. Chux wont be coming down from Duluth till 24 DEC (Christmas eve). How about the week between Christmas and New Years? That's 27 DEC - 31 DEC (31DEC being New Years Eve) I would imagine that weekend (01JAN and 02JAN) will be mostly booked up for people... if nothing more than recovering from New Years Eve :-p. I'll start another thread so we can vote on it; cool?
  15. Must be then McBrat cuz we tore through this Toyota rim with an old bit and B.A.D. Would have used the bridge port but the tire was mounted to the rim still. Wouldnt fit under it I know we can use any of them Monstaru; but I want specificly ones with the least backspacing. Would be nice to know what year/make/model to look at instead of walking up to every 5 lug rim and eye-balling the backspacing with my tape measure. Looks like late 70's/early 80's chevy is a good start..... how about years/models of Toyotas?
  16. Don't let it get away! I've seen a grand total of TWO come through a local yard here in the last 6 years....
  17. Great information guys. Rick: I'm on a budget :-p No fancy Summit parts in the mail or my wife puts more spray paint on the Subaru What year/model did those rims you speak of come off ? That would give me 2" less of back spacing right there Brushbasher: What year/model did those come off of? The Toyota rim I found came out of the back of a first gen 4Runner. I have no idea if it REALLY came on the 4Runner tho becuase it was an old, rusty, half worn, full size spare laying in the back.... Thanks guys!
  18. I hear you; busy weekend. Was really supprised to see so many come out on a holiday weekend. Hope to see more next time
