I'm not a big fan of modifications on a daily driver but thats your choice not mine Maybe all that's really in order is some restructuring of your fenders and unibody with a 4" disc grinder and big freak'n hammer?
-
what did it come out of? what's the ratio on the low range? or maybe if you can find the model # we could figure it out!

... thanks for sharing

why me god, why always me?!?
MorganM replied to subyrally's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This is why my old Subaru is no longer my daily driver. Fix one thing and something else breaks. It was a never ending cycle. Eventually I came to the conclusion I needed a daily driver and the Subaru was my ORV toy. Been much happier every since -
Tall Tires and Speedometer Calibaration
MorganM replied to NorthWet's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I really don't worry about it. Just go with the flow of traffic or slower and you are fine. Nobody on the road with you? Don't sweat it just watch for cops and follow your 'gut feeling'. I guess I'm not that worried about how fast im going /shrug Speedo hasnt worked since my 4WD conversion and I really don't intend to fix it :-p -
Fill your oil filter up with oil before reinstalling. Fill it up SEVERAL times as the filter soaks up over a half quart! You will get oil pressure almost instantly. Whoever told you it would do that is way WAY too paranoid. They prolly wear rubber gloves when changing oil too.:-p Cuz youll get CANCER FROM THAT DIRTY OIL!

Sorry I can't belive that I've had work done at a machine shop on my EA82 and Lord knows I wish I could have walked out of there under $1000. Total bill when all was said and done was $1600. No fancy grinds, knife edges, boreing, porting or polishing

Ford probe STi ooooohhhhh yeah baby!!
MorganM replied to coloradosubarules's topic in Subaru Transplants
Didn't the Ford Probe GT automatic use the same 4EAT in the first gen Legacy? Belive it was actually developed by Mazda? Maybe it was only on the Probe turbos.... I'm not 100% clear on this. Might be something to look into if you want to keep her going. -
Thanks for posting those. If I cant wheel my Subaru the next best thing is to watch someone else do it! Looks like it was real messy out that evening. Coming down that drop off I could see how easly that would happen. That stuff looked SLICK

Shoot Archemitis a PM. He's re-marked timing marks before on many a flywheel. I"m sure he can help.

Ran regular dino oil in my 472 cadillac engine. At the time I had slow oil leaks. Over night I would leave a little puddle the size of a silver dollar. Switched to Valvoline full synthetic. After switching I no longer left ANY drops on the pavement. Go figure

Head Gasket repair "In a bottle"
MorganM replied to Krag's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I tried some crap in a bottle for head gaskets when mine was mixing oil and coolant. Didnt stop the leakage. Did a wonderful job of cloging up my coolant passages. Found that out when I pulled apart the whole engine to rebuild it. That was with some milkey looking stuff... don't recall the name. Now AlumiSeal I have heard good things about and seen it work. Arch sealed up his 4Runner headgasket with it. My brother has used it on two vehicles and it sealed them up. Note these are NOT permanat fixes. In all cases noted they eventually did get worse and all the kings horses and all the kings men could not put ther headgaskets back together again Good luck -
Herm... could have sworn I've seen an XT4 MPFI NA with rear discs in a junkyard.

Your statement confuses me; please elaborate

92 loyale has been sitting 98-04
MorganM replied to schollajef22's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think you mean the oil pan gasket is cork. The valve cover gaskets are rubber. That high idle is normal. It should come down to 800 as your engine warms up. That would be a good sign the IAC is working properly -
Running leaded gas in my Subie (Nicaragua)

MorganM replied to DrKrazy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sounds like a blast. They sure did a magnificant job of covering that there engine Maybe thats how they officialy delt with leaking valve covers -
For people like me who don't have such a broad vocabulary. I had to look this one up on http://www.dict.org 2 definitions found for MendacityFrom Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) : Mendacity \Men*dac"i*ty\, n.; pl. Mendacities. [L. mendacitas.] 1. The quality or state of being mendacious; a habit of lying. --Macaulay. 2. A falsehood; a lie. --Sir T. Browne. Syn: Lying; deceit; untruth; falsehood. From WordNet ® 2.0 : mendacity n : the tendency to be untruthful [ant: veracity]

Yeehaw that's what I'm talk'n about! Action shots of the Brat OKay so which wussies wussed out on that wuss hole? I'd hit that in a stock subaru.... were they scared of getting stuck or something? Looked like there were plenty of rigs to pull anyone who got stuck. Love that desert camo by the way. Looks good in that light with mud splater all over it!

Preferred gasoline for Subes?
MorganM replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It's funny down in Iowa you can get upto 20% ethanol and a lot of times 'mid grade' (90 octane) is cheaper than 'low grade' (87 octane)
