  5. In light of the open timing belt tread I'd like to bring this up. After 2 solid days of hard trail riding in Castana I siezed an idler pulley on my trip home. This concequently shearded my left timing belt. I noticed if I kept them properly lubed up they were fine. Well I ignored them for a few hours on my way home, bearings over heated, and siezed They were so hot I could have lit a cig off one! What I've been using is PB Blaster. Great stuff but I wonder is there a thicker grease I could apply to these? I want something that is highly water resisnt and thick enough to stick in there and not just run out or fling off. Also didnt see any fittings to chuck up a real grease gun so how should I apply it so it actually gets down into the bearings where it needs to be? Thanks!

  10. My inlaws got me a SWEET high lift jack for Christmas. Initially they didn't want to get it for me becuase they thought I would kill myself with it. I told them it was for offroading not for really holding my car up while I work under it. So they got me a pretty nice one !_! Anyway... Whats some tips and tricks to this thing and offroading? I've never really used one... Some things I can think of: Keep a slab of wood for solid base to set it on. Use to jack up if high centerd then stuff things under wheels. Jack up and push it off the jack to get out of a nasty rut. Someone else actually mentioned this to me. Sounds a little unsafe but so are a lot of things :-p What else?

    The Cheap lift

    I support the BYB lift mostly becuase it's proven over decade(s?) of pure offroad carnage. Was developed and built by a Subaru enthisiast. It's been through enough trials and tribulations that all the bugs are worked out. The kit isnt cheap I know... blowing almost $400 on ANYTHING to me is a major purchase. However have you seen how much other lift kits go for on other vehicles? Many people pay more money for a lift kit than I have into my Subaru (including original purchase of the car!) A local shop sure could do it; no doubt about that. However it is still a risk unless they have done several Subarus. Zapar has pointed out some things. Another to consider is if they know exactly what angle the top strut 'blocks' will need to be made at so your camber is correct and you dont eat tires every three months. Maybe they know all about this and will have no trouble getting you a lift for $300.... maybe they don't and will just get something done for you. You wont realize whats up untill your tires are wearing funny =/ Totally upto you man. Nothing wrong with going fully custom just go into it armed with the information that will get you a satisfactory result.
  12. A genuine Subaru oil filter is made by Puralator. Lots of places stock them like Autozone and Fleet Farm !_! You can get their basic one or their primo "pureONE" filters.

  16. Yeah I'd have to agree... don't take no crap. Some friendly ribing will be expected when you approach people on your ideas. Just that some tend to be assenhymers about stuff and go too far. Find someone willing to work with you; not someone who just wants to take your money. Don't forget pics of this thing when youre done

    The Cheap lift

    Honestly the BYB 3" lift is about as cheap as you are going to get. Only way you are gonna go cheaper is if you know exactly how to fabricate teh things you need yourself, have access too necessary shop tools, and can get a good deal on steel. Everything on my Subaru is strictly budget upgrades. Took me years to piece together everything.... rear end, tranny, lift kit, rims, tires, etc etc. Buy stuff when you got the money and post on the USMB when you dont You'll have it before ya know it !_! (p.s. you dont need a lift to go offroading )

  22. Nice Legacy wagon man! Definatly turning it up a notch there for Legacy owners every where So this is a suspension lift then with springs and shocks. Nothing else was done for lifting it other than bigger tires right? Nine inches aint bad at all for ground clearance. Angles must suck on that thing though for aproach/departure. Add custom bumpers to that list to gain some better angles Action shots?
  23. Timing or other ignition components (coil, wires, cap, rotor) are a good start with a miss fire.
