Best places to get fluid temperatures?
MorganM replied to hooziewhatsit's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Coolant temp I would measure right at the thermostat; and prolly right before it. That's going to be where the hotest coolant is spitting out of the engine and into the radiator for cooling off. -
I-90,I-94 Corridor Road Trip, Minnie?

Sounds like a Subaru adventure !_! We'll have a rather frigid... er warm... welcome for you in MN when you swing through the Twincities We can kick some tires, pour over the EJ22 wagon going "oooohhh.... aaaahhhhh.....", and then compare ground clearances I'll check back here often for more detailed times / dates. TTYL !_! -
Start with Northguy's advice.... what are you going to do with this thing? Finding another EA82 SPFI to swap in should not be a problem. Finding one worth swaping in might be tougher Might as well ditch that 3AT at the same time and to 4WD Dual Range. Problem going 4WD now is that you have to swap the rear end out. (this is a 2WD right? Not the 4AT 4WD Single Range?) Going 2WD to 4WD is a lot of work. A lot of work for an old goat of a car. I've done pretty much everything listed above and more. (except I swaped a 5MT 2WD for 5MT 4WD) Prolly should have started with a 4WD Dual Range to begin with. I didnt have the luxaury of doing that however. Now also take into consideration I did this all on my "toy". I did not have to worry about getting to work Monday while doing these very extensive mods and swaps. 90% of the parts I got were from junkyards so that kept cost down. They sky is the limit!!!! (actuall your budget and time are; but that doesnt sound as cool =P )

It's not like the movies. Your car wont explode.

Nice bumper! Get some paint on it before the rust sets in. I'd highly recommend self etching primer (or any primer) even if you are gonna rattle bomb it. I threw 3 cans of spray paint on mine, no primer, and the paint is already falling off and rust is starting to set in.... now I gotta pull them off, sand the crappy paint off, prime and paint. Tube bender? woot! Time for some nerf bars... and a rear bumper.... and a roof rack.... and and and

To clarify.... you drilled out the rims or the hubs ?

Jeez thats rough man 30 MPH is pretty fast for nailing a completly stationary, solid object like that. I'm supprised the bags didnt come out. Hopefully the driver had their seat belt on! Maybe it didnt go down exactly how it was explained but in situations of panic (read: OMG I CANT STEER OR STOP) details are lost, emotions are high, and we dont always react properly :/

Yeah I would imagine it's not very loud really. You still have catalytic converters which dampen A LOT of sound. Even with a single cat and no muffler on my old first gen Legacy it wasnt obnoxiously loud. It was no louder than my friends stock '99 Mustang GT.... in fact he said "I wish my Mustang sounded that good..."

poll: who likes their weber?
MorganM replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've been going through all my grounds and other electrical connctions and packing them with dielectric grease. That helps with water issues. -
All is not lost As Arch noted you can go to most any parts store, farm supply store, or an actual break shop and get precut and pre flared / ended hard lines. Be sure to bring in that soft line so you get the correct ends on your new hardlines. Also bring in a little segement of your hardline so you get the correct diameter hardline. IIRC they are 3/16th but bring in yoru line to be sure The hardlines are realy easy to bend into shape just go slow and easy so you dont kink it. If you must you can just buy the hardline, ends, and a double flare tool. Use your old rusty lines to play with getting used to doing a double flare. It all sounds harder than it really is

Yeah milspec doesnt really mean its any safer or better... Just dont shoot it with other metal objects and I don't think it will be a problem

I keep mine in the cabin tightly screwed shut. Try to keep it wedged down secure between the back of my seat, tools, and such. Then again I don't have rear seats anymore and never have people back there. Fleet Farm stocks those cans LPGsuperchargedBrumby is talking about. Or try a military surplus shop.

Rear E-Brake donor found. (U.S. model)
MorganM replied to CIS Subaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I just made up some custom ones. Should be in my Speed Bleeder thread from a while back. They work great and have not fallen off yet even after hard core offroading. -
My friend bought performance tires for his 99 Mustang GT from TireRack.com. They honored his warrenty when one had tread speration in a month. The thing that sucked was he had to take it off, box it up, ship it out, drive around on a donut, and wait for the new one to come in the mail.

I say you bolt those meats on, go drive around, and realize you wont need it Especially in 4Lo

Where do you think these rebuilt ones come from? They are rebuilt 200k mile engines. Is there something drasticly wrong with the current engine?
