  1. I run Castrol GTX cuz its not expensive and it says DRIVE HARD on it which is what I do so I guess its oil made for ppl like me right Filter I rune Puralator as that is OEM Subaru filter. Usually buy the nice "pureONE" filters instead of their base model. Unless it's out of stock. Batteries I use tested $10 junkyard ones. :-p
  2. Had a blast and hope everyone who came did too. Seemed kinda like a dive at first... pizza place was closed (duh why didnt we realize it was New Years Day? Not much open!) So after hanging around for an hour we all went down to DQ.... well DQ was closed but we saw another little diner just a block away that was open. All went in and had a little lunch. Then took off down to the offroad trails. Everything had froze over again so we didnt get dirty. Lots of frozen rain to make it interesting however! Fuji K in his Impreza sport wagon (with weldied diff! WOOT) was doing some wicked donuts in an open area. All the Impreza's and WRX's did fine offroad. Then we took the SUVs over the table top and made our way over to the mini-hill climb. Took the Jeep up and down that. I think the Jeep guy liked it. He'd never taken it offroad and was happy to 'test out 4 low' :-p Glad so many people came out. I think we had around 13 people there and 5 or 6 Subarus there, 1 Jeep and 1 4Runner. Thanks for coming and hope to see more next time.
  3. No I would not suggest something to pour in your crank case to fix a leak. I would suggest fixing whatever is leaking. Any details about where it is leaking? How much you are loosing?
  4. LOL looks fun. Really lifting that wheel up. Doubt you were in much danger of rolling it there. You are right though cameras don't do justice.... especially from the view inside the cabin.
  5. On other heads I think it's possible. However these heads are not torqued down as hard as a lot of cylinder heads are on other motors. I really don't think you'll hurt it by loostening it in the wrong order or no order at all. Now tightening it down you could mess up the gasket sealing if you torque it down wrong.

    The Cheap lift

LOL atleast she LET you! I would have got "THE LOOK" and a big "i don't think so..." when I started laying parts on the floor
  7. Check out the pump back there. VERY prone to rust back there behind the rear main crossmember. At the very least make sure you can hear operating consistantly and that it isn't leaking. I'd start there
  8. yeehaw rage it! I love getting dirty before even showing up to the junkyards.
  9. Should have worded it a little different..... it SHOULD be air tight

    The Cheap lift

I rather would but usually dont :-p
  11. I wouldnt worry about being tipsy with 4" or less. It's not really that drastic of a lift. Really just allows for bigger tires more than it jacks you up into the air. If the Legacy body lift would be anything like the older Subaru lifts then your center of gravity will sill be pretty low as your drive train will not be raised up but rather just the body. Go for the bumpers first though
  12. What a downer today. Siezed my water pump on the highway while helping archemitis move some stuff out of his old house. If all goes well we'll swap on a "new" pump tomarrow here at my parents house. If not I guess I'll be rolling up in a KIA None the less I will be there and there so will lots of other ppl. TTYL !_!

    War

awsome free-codecs.com .... so uh oddcomp..... why ya need so many codecs for movies off the internet ?
  14. I'm not a big party guy really. Only really go to them if my friends are hosting and I havent heard of any big new years eve shin'dig. Archemitis might have the low down on something. I'll be with family in Eagan; yall are welcome I'm sure but it wont be rage'n LOL just us old folk eating good eats , some card games, and relaxing. It's cheap and fun however (I got lots of Subaru offroad vids of yall we could watch LOL)
  15. Damn man.... gotta do what you think is best. Certainly dont want you stranded out there in this weather. With all this rain now we just might be flinging some mud on SAT Is the brat your daily or do you have another car to get you around reliably? I know I don't put much faith in any car that eats coolant or lots of oil (or both! been there LOL)
  16. Torco MPZ eh? Sounds pretty good! Might have to find a local supplier....
  17. A couple flavors for your portable welder. Qman has a trick setup under the bonnet. Seen the same setup on a Toy Land Cruiser last week. Definatly a good way to go. Toyota duder also had one that clamps onto a battery and wire feeds for some welding action. He couldnt find it at the moment so I didnt get to check it out closely. He just explained it's basics. Anyway their are some neat portable welding options for seriouse offroaders. There's also the shade tree's battery welder buuuut I really dont understand how that works properly and it really didnt sound too safe :-p And that's all I have to say about thaaat....
  18. I have no problems spinning 29"s on dry pavement... no sand... no dirt... Stock EA82 SPFI.... no turbo. Wouldnt worry about it untill you go with BIG tires. Don't think you need nitrous; just more gas
  19. How do I visually tell the difference in a sealed bearing and a shielded bearing?
  20. LOOK OUT WORLD HERE I COME http://artpad.art.com/gallery/?i9jr9dusql0 .... you can move it to offtopic I guess but it is offroad subaru LOL
  21. Man after having Archemitis "new" hatchback in my garage and riding around in his others.... gotta have one!
  22. Working on it! Got a dude near by with a cached Brat. Said the engine and tranny worked great before he parked it. Drive train is rusting away from the unibody however.... in a BAD BAD way Problem is I gotta get the engine/tranny out and then get the junk body hauled off to a crusher. Now stay on topic and quit grining about your superior timing chain setup :-p I gotta get through this next season methinks before I can do the engine swap I have in mind. Other ppl offroad EA82 engines.... what are they doing? Just running timing covers and praying that all the seals are good enough to not let water and junk in? I know my old timing belt covers were practicly useless at sealing anything out =(
