Lofty goals this comming year...

Keep dreaming then -
Pretty sure I have a spare one in my spare parts box. Sounds like you really went to length to find one. Sometimes you just cant find the parts you need from local junkyards Went through that with a fuel pump... simply none to be had at any local junkyards; or the ones I found were toast. Send me a PM and I'll talk to you about mailing my spare one out. Shoot me your zip code atleast and I can estimate a shipping price. Peace

You will need no fancy tools, machineary, or extra parts to install the lift; it's an all inclusive kit. Some have installed it in a single day. The amount of rust on the vehicle will effect how long it takes. Took me 2 weeks at about 2 - 4 hours a night to complete the install. Mine was VERY rusty

Your first goal for the year should be securing the funding to build it... -
Could do an OHMs resistance test on the connector spade ends inside the plug there that plugs into the TPS itself. That will tell you exactly which wire is messed up. Then you can repair it from there. Maybe someone with an FSM can give you the OHMs values to check against. Otherwise you can just wiggle the plug/harness a bit as you check each spade. Wath for one that either looses connection completly or the OHMs shoot way up. Good luck!

losing power at higher speeds
MorganM replied to teasdam's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Blowby out the exhuast means you are loosing compression. As you guessed compression does impact performance. It shouldnt be THAT bad however. I suffer from a lot of blow by on my SPFI also but I can still hold 70 mph. You can forget the vacume advance stuff.... it's an optical dizzy. FUel starvation is a possibility. That would most likly show up as a sputter or missfire at higher RPMs. Is this just a lack of power or does it kinda sputter and missfire as you try to accelerate to 65 MPH? Double check your spark plug gap. Often times plugs that come gapped are slightly off or completly wrong. Also the condition of your plugs can give you insight to how the combustion process is performing. Maybe it's not your engine at all... maybe its your 3AT thats slipping at higher RPM / MPH ? -
So if you blow a CV be sure to remove the lift kit and wash off all the mud before you bring it to the stealership

Running leaded gas in my Subie (Nicaragua)
MorganM replied to dbenzmaine's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ah over 20k miles; I'd say he's good to go then. I wouldnt punch it out unless it started getting clogged up but it looks like that wont be much of an issue. Maybe just run some sea foam after you are out of Nicaragua. I like huffing emissions; makes me stronger (or sleepier?) -
Mudrat is a pioneer and I think you guys are breaking new ground here. There are what... 2 kits you can buy? Have yet to see any custom fabricated lifts for the Baja. If you had John make you one you'd prolly have one of the first (if not THE first?) custom fab Baja lift kit. Rage it !_!

Anyone Delt With These Guys?
MorganM replied to MorganM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That sucks they are just junk dealers. Prices were fair to me... little high compared to a junkyard but junkyards around here all have rusted out craboxes.... so things like fuel pumps and fenders are pretty much always shot from rust. -

It will indeed clog the cat then. Have you seen what's really inside of those things? The air passages throguh the catalyst are VERY VERY narrow. An ant would clog one of the pasages. You could always punch it out while you are down there if it does get clogged up Maybe bring a few cans of Sea Foam to run through her after you've ran leaded for a while. That stuff cleans out your combustion chambers good The O2 sensor is hardly anything to worry about. If it does get clogged up to the point where it cant read O2 anymore you will just get slightly worse gas milage. Your car will still operate just fine with out it. I think the little Subaru will do fine down there -
carfreak85 this pic is TOO funny ! http://usmb.net/albums/album230/IMG_0943.jpg Here's some of mine

Pull out the O2 sensor first. So you dont damage it while punching the cat. Then just put it back when done. It will still do its job with or with out the catalyst Noise will be increased but these little guys sound mean so thats okay in my book! If you want to quiet it down you'll need something a little more sturdy than some flexy tubing and 2 clamps =P -

About punching the cat... I"ve done a couple. Just pulled the Y pipe off and from the exit pipe out the back I used a long crow bar and a big hammer. Busted through the screen mesh then busted up the honey comb of catalitic material. Was a kinda slow process but not hard. Just takes a while to bust them up into chunks small enough to pull out. Another tough part was getting the the wire mesh out first. I had the luxary of cutting the pipe just after the cat giving me easy access to the internals of the cat itself. As for the effects of leaded fuel on your engine I really have no idea. Would it really clog up your cat THAT fast? I dont know the answer to that either. -
Even more photoshop fun.

It realy, truely does  -
Subaru Suzuki & Kia Auto Recycling (800) 638-5773 Found them in the phone book. I was calling asking about an FSM for an XT6 and then asked about a fuel pump for EA82 SPFI. Only wanted $75 for a used pump, 30day warrenty. Not bad since I can't find a new one for under $150. Has anyone ever done business with them? Apparently they are located out in California. Might be an alternative source for used Subaru parts if your local junkyards don't have what you need.

OBS has a lot more umph to turn that big hog!

Next time hit it FASTER.... you'll pull right through Yeah, tires are key.
-
I don't think the rear diff is the problem but rather the transfer case with no center diff (like the FT4WD and AWD setups have)
-
First thing that comes to my mind is a stock EA82 clutch wont hold when you get on throttle good. Prolly need to look into a better clutch.

Yep check those lug nuts I was rolling around in my wagon some years ago. Everytime I hit the brakes I heard a loud THUD from the front right. Funny vibration at certain MPH too. Several thoughts were going through my brain as I drove around town. Pulled into a gas station, busted out the floor jack and proped her up. Getting my lug wrench to pull the wheel and see what was going on.... I notice all 4 lug nuts were so loose the wheel was on at a funny angle
