Use your multimeter to do an OHMs resistance test. Set the multimeter to the horse shoe shaped OHMs setting. Then put the red probe on the sensor where it plugs into the wire and ground the black probe. Match the value listed on your meter to value provided by service manual or other source. When filling up the radiator I use the lower hose as a pump. Forcing the air to the top and sucking coolant down. There should also be a bleeder valve on top of the radiator. To use this turn the engine on and let it start to warm up. Crack that bleeder open and wait for it to spew all the air out. If you go slow enough and are pacient to let all air bubles work their way up you really dont need the bleeder. Next time you have ran her up to full temp let her cool down a bit and check coolant level again. Any bubles trapped in the engine itself should have made their way to the radiator by then so you can top it off.

Need help deciding........

I don't think the wireing will be that bad since you have EVERYTHING you need right there. I say drive it till she smokes the tranny and by then you should have enough saved for the adapter kit from John. -
Differences between Loyale 1.3 and 1.8 engines?
MorganM replied to Tee_Koo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Doubt youll find much info here. We dont have those engines in the US and nobody to my knowledge has ever posted about them before. How about contacting a dealership. A lot of times they will let you look at the parts books and you can see for yourself how its all different. Atleast a good parts guy would spend some time with you and talk about differences he can see. Honestly tho a 1.3? It's motor swap time to go 1.8! -
thats awsome! I need one of those to pull my wagon out when i get stuck!

Nice triming; so its offroad time now right?! You know you wanna get that one dirty like all the others!

Mine is just straight broke. Been meaning to hook up my PA to my CB so I can yell BEEP at people You could do what BYB555 did; AIR HORNS off his onboard air system http://www.ausubaru.com/ausubaru/html/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=849

Doubt the AC will even work on one you find. A couple people have just used that same AC pump for on board air. I have an old AC pump that I took out of mine if you want one to test with and not worry about seizing it up. You could sacrifice power steering and add it there also. a York MIGHT fit there... never held one up to find out. I have no problem turning 29"x8.5" tires with no power steering. I ripped all that junk out... AC and PS. Lots of extra weight and some power stolen from the crank... not much but when you have less than 100 to begin with it ads up Could go with an electric setup. The XT, XT6 and GL10 had optional air suspension. In the front drivers side fendor youll find a spiffy little compressor with air tank. Junkyard upgrade !_!

Whats the 'best' Subie to start with??
MorganM replied to 4RnrRick's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sounds like you got a plan man; rage it! -
I do not belive any US spec Foresters have High/Low ratio (or range) I know over seas you could get dual range (high and low) but I don't think you could even get that over here. Maybe it's talking about dissenguaging an 'overdrive' feature? I know when towing things you should disenguage overdrive if so equiped. That would be on an automatic transmission however. Is this an AT or MT ?

I'm a huge fan of the SPFI; more power, very reliable, and easy to work on. Also at those extreem angles youll be climbing up EFI rules... carbs wuss out! Tough call; start with the running gear you want or start with the engine you want... I started with the engine and converted the drivetrain. That's a lot easier than converting a carbed to EFI. Drivetrain conversion is all bolt on... EFI conversion is a lot of wires and hard think'n. I don't think you could get SPFI with a dual range tranny or am I mistaken? That would be the sperior combo IMHO! Maybe I'm bias tho cuz thats what I built Honestly tho just get what you want. Everything mixes and matches between these old goats. You can MAKE it what you want by swaping parts from many different generations. Gotta love the junkyard upgrades! -
Back From Moosens with Goodies!!

Glad to hear you are getting that Loyale squared away and not sending it away to the junkyard! -
Drive it till she blows up and save money in the mean time to buy another car Exhuast: who cares? Do you have to pass any inspections? If not then drive on! Rear Brakes: Just get shoes replaced. Clutch: How bad is it slipping? Drive it till she wont enguage any more! Timing Belts: Forget about them untill the BREAK! This is a NON-interfearence engine so breaking a timing belt will NOT hurt your engine. Water Pump: Is it leaking from the 'weep hole' or from the gasket? Weep hole you can ignore it untill you can get a new pump (do NOT forget to keep adding coolant!) Gasket? Get a new gasket and just replace that. What other gaskets? Talking about oil seals on crank and cams? Oil pan? Cam case gaskets? Little oil leakage never hurt nobody Again KEEP IT FULL of oil! That's about as cheap as youre gonna get. ps: please dont put ATF in your crank case... Your loyale is already cranky enough!

I got some BIG intercoolers if you wanna blow $100

The 84 turbo and emissions
MorganM replied to Mr. Carb's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you still need a clutch fan just PM me. I have an EA82 SPFI one laying here I havent used in years so it's yours if you need it! In addition to all the other things mentioned get them combustion chambers cleaned OUT! Also ensure all your EGR junk is working. Most times the EGR selinoid goes out. Don't forget your PCV system also. What if you re-routed all PCV hoses to breather filters? Then you wouldnt be sending nasty junk down your intake! O2 sensor is pretty important here also; just replace it. I'd do everything BUT the cat and go try again. Then if you fail put a cat on. Also take it to a different station. I wouldnt let the same morons who overheated it and pinged it TOUCH my car again! ps: replace radiator with new one !_! -
175/70 R13 is 22.6 in tall and the ones you bought are 24 in tall. The width is the same. They will still fit and should not rub. Here is a tire calculator http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I've been running an Accel yellow super stock for almost 2 years. First and only one I've bought. If it was going to fry any ingition electronics I think it would have done it by now. -
hey mods. look at me.

Isnt this what the USMR is for? So we can just politly direct people to the article that answers their question? Then if they have FURTHER questions they will post them. -

Latest info and maps! Here is a map from the I35 split south of the cities to White Face River state forest. This is 206 miles so about 3 hours and 30 min with no stops. Cutting through Duluth; switching from I35 north to HWY 53 North Closeup of pulling into the state forest MN DNR draft... notice all trials are red? That means they drafted us NO TRAILS! I'll have a couple nice copies of this printed. Looks bad here due to optimization for internet. I called the state forest managers office for the area asking about camping. She said that the Whiteface River forest is managed federaly even tho its a state forest. There are camping spots, no reservation, just show up and camp! Bare minimal facilities available.
