  1. Don't be fooled by its mild manored appearance! That baby will fly! It's been specially modified for just such law breakers as you! Note the machine guns disguised as turn signals. It is what is left of an early, failed, Subaru attempt to obtain lucrative government contracts in the law enforcement field. Most were picked up by collectors and the rest were destroyed. Anybody want to buy some swamp land in Florida?
  2. When it's cool I never use the A/C. Only when it's over 95 do I even use the A/C. And I haven't had the car long enough to use the Heater/defroster. So all my experience is Hot weather related.:madder: Like everyone else, I'd bet it's the compressor. It seems the have gone away now the weather is cooler(less A/C use?). Seems to me it was most noticable under 40 but would still be present at freeway speeds. I would call it a hesitation/hickup. Seems like it didn't want to accelearate with out complaining and at a constant throttle it seemed ok. Hummm? Glenn 82 Hatch, 4/60 A/C 01 Forester, real A/C
  3. True! 85 octane is standard gas here. The funny thing is nothing pings? They must tune the cars for the 5k elevation? I can do 85mph UP Parleys Canyon with 4 people and a load @ 3/4 throttle! These things have power! My 82 will only do 55 over the pass. I hope to do 90mph over the pass just to see if it is possible? Probably won't help milage any though? Maybe I should try the mid-grade gas? For what it's worth, Glenn, 82 Hatch, transforming.....:temper: 01 Forester, jealous but powerful..
  4. I have had all the same problems, including 8" holes in my floor. The only difference is, I spent time over the years battleing rust on the body panels. The body panels can be fixed. The bellypan or frame rails can't be fixed (for a reasonable price). My Sub had a little over a 100k on it. The engine and drivetrain were in great shape too. I decided it was time to take it off-road (permanantly) because of safety issues associated with the lack of structure on the underside. Make it into a highly modified off-road Subaru! For what it's worth, Glenn, 82 Hatch, transforming........:temper: 01 Forester, jealous........... :madder:
  5. I have an EA81 and I want a funky wheel! How cheap is cheap? Thanks, Glenn 82 Hatch, wants a off-road wheel..... 01 Forester, wants a D/R tranny......:madder:
  6. Only got 23.5 miles on the return trip:cornfuzz: Kinda thought the mpg's would be a little better than this? Glenn, 82 Hatch, transforming :temper: 01 Forester, jealous......:madder:
  7. Sawzall...........................:cornfuzz: 20 minutes....................
  8. A while back, I saw a girl driving a Hatch with a nice rack. I wish I had some pics to post.:boohoo: I know, I know, I realize it's getting old but, I'm not going to pass it up. Glenn, 82 Hatch, rack being built into the roll bar.....:temper: 01 Forester, Factory rack :brow
  9. Will they really make one for the front of an old Subaru for $350. Up front our options are "limited". That does not sound that bad given the choices........ :brolleye: Glenn, 82 Hatch, locked rear....... :temper: 01 Forester, limited all around......
  10. Do you have a web site? Glenn, 82 Hatch...... 01 Forester.....
  11. There's a few of us in Salt Lake City, Bout an hour from Evanston Wy. Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it used to be....... 01 Forester, still looks like a Forester....
  12. I've used that spray on undercoating on all kinds of crap and had good results. I think, just like anything, it needs touch-up work over time to keep it up. I just did the buggy tank with that crap, it better last:madder: At one point I considered doing my whole car. My .02 Glenn, 82 Hatch, undercoated carpet. :temper: 01 Forester, not undercoated:cornfuzz:
  13. Outbacks old and new! They're everwhere! None of the EA81's still left around here. Only seen three Bajas outside of the dealership. Glenn, 82 Hatch, the few the proud! The transforming?:temper: 01 Forester, still a minority round here.......:madder:
  14. Just got back from a trip in the Forester. Went about 350 miles and got 25.5 miles per gallon. (doing 85mph windy with the A/C on) I was kinda suprised by how short the range was. I never checked the EPA or Factory specks on this vehicle but I was wondering if this is about what everybody else was getting? Glenn, 82 Hatch, great off-road car. 01 Forester, great on-road car.
  15. It would make a great glass bottom for a rusty Suby. Just think you could look through the rust holes and not get wet! Glenn, 82 Hatch, transforming.....:temper: 01 Forester, jealous.........:madder:
  16. Dave, Got Sawzall? ..................20 minutes tops! Depending on what your doing with the donor car it could be a great way to go! I did it and pulled the engine, crossmember, struts, wheels, tires, tranny all out in one shot.................Simple! once it's out it is much more managable. Just a thought:cornfuzz: Good luck! Glenn, 82 Hatch, transforming.......:temper: 01 Forester, jealous...........:madder:
  17. Mine use to be on my steering column on those shiny brackets, .............................till I took it off:brolleye: I hope I can find it?...................... :cornfuzz: Mine might be with yours.........................Lost!:boohoo: Never mind, Glenn, 82 Hatch, If I only had a brain....:temper: 01 Forester, Don't touch me!
  18. Seems at though I have proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that I don't know squat about my motor Now I have made a complete idiot out of myself, I think I'll get me one of them BIG cowboy belt buckles and go home now...... :moon: Ashamed of my knowledge (or lack there of) while in the presence of greatness Glenn, 82 Hatch, with gears and no belts.... 01 Forester, Hey what about me? 39k?
  19. So is a chain and gear going to need maint after 21yrs? Or is it good for the long haul? :cornfuzz: :cornfuzz: :cornfuzz: :cornfuzz: :cornfuzz: I don't claim to know much about mechanics........ Glenn, 82 Hatch, transforming........:temper: 01 Forester,
  20. I've had my 82 Hatch since it was a Pup. I was just reading a post about timing belts. I then put 2+2 together.:cornfuzz: I don't recall ever having replaced my timing belt? Is this a bad thing? (Has 120K and will be a recreational vehicle from this point on.) Thoughts, suggestions, insults? Glenn, Whoops! 82 Hatch, likes it's new body.... 01 Forester, hasn't had a belt either?
  21. My poor car was clean on the top side so......, I was undercoating it and noticed I was actually undercoating my carpet:boohoo: :boohoo: :boohoo: BUGGY TIME! Glenn, 82 Hatch, rust inspired Buggy!:temper: 01 Forester, better not rust!:madder:
  22. Hatches had round headlights on the DL or standard series till at least 87. Gone by 89. http://usmb.net/gallery/album80/1987_j I think the 4 speeds left in 85 I thought Brats had the large rectangular and dual small rectangular only! I don't recall seeing a gen2 Brat with round lights. Anyone else? Glenn, 82 Hatch, transforming no lights yet.:temper: 01 Forester, polygon lights?
  23. This is a brochure from the board. It confirms that the GL-10 package existed in an EA-81 and lists the options that it came with. I think your wife is right. A little upholstry cleaner wouldn't hurt the griz any?---Well it might take away a little character. Glenn, 82 Hatch,.....transforming (no options)...:temper: 01 Forester,.......loaded:banana:
  24. The Subies are more properly classed as "Crossover Vehicles" not SUV's. Although didn't Subaru advertise the Forester as the First and Only SUV Wagon? A crossover vehicle is fine for 98% of the people out there. Good call on Subaru's part. However, I'm looking for something more (2%). A D/R tranny would serve me well. I'd be willing to pay more for the utility I would get out of it. I think you would find D/R Subies would sell at a premium price among Subarus. If they existed you could add larger tires, stiffer springs and do lifts (although I think driving skill is more importent) or what ever you want and it would work. I have taken my Forester climbing and found it just doesn't cut it. No matter how they advertise it (Outback? Forester?) it's not the Subaru that made Subaru popular. Outback..yard? Urban Forester? I'm preaching to the choir........ OFFER THE D/R TRANNY IN THE US!:boohoo: :boohoo: :boohoo: I'm preaching to the choir........ I'll shut up now. Glenn, 82 Hatch, with gears! 01 Forester, without gears!
  25. My 2001 Forester does the same thing:mad: It's obnoxious to drive with the A/C on  Let us know what you find!!!! Glenn, 82 Hatch, no A/C 01 Forester, obnoxious A/C
